SUBTEAM 1

Video Subsystem

Specifications:

Input: [internal] Input interface (40 pins?) to be used as input by the main control subsystem (micro-controller o processor)

Provide specification for this input interface. 8 bits per RGB color (Red-Green-Blue) plus 12 bit per axis (X-Y)

Input: [internal] Power lines (VDD, Ground) Input: [external] [shared] Hard-reset button Input: [Internal] JTAG to program microprocessor/controller

Output [external]: VGA port (A female DE-15 connector output) Output: [external] [optional] DVI port (A female DVI connector output) Construction and testing: using breadboard

Circuit diagram: using PSpice Early assessment of needed components: microprocessor/controller (pic* type?), and

socket, digital to analog convertor (DAC), clock, memory chips, capacitors (?), resistors (?), transistors (?), DIPs, ....

Considerations: Resolution settings (refresh frequency, horizontal resolution, ...), use another board with a JTAG to program microprocessor/controller

Communications and Main Control systems

Specifications:

Output: [external] Bluetooth adapter Input/output: [external] Wired network port (LAN) (RJ-45 jack) input/output: [external] [optional] Wireless network port (WLAN) (WiFi and antenna) Output: [internal] output interface (40 pins?) to be used to command the video subsystem. Input/output: [external] USB port (for USB mass storage device) Input: [external] keypad for dashboard (buttons: Check-in, Poll, Random, Up, Down, OK, ...) Output: [internal] Chime (for user feedback when using keypad) Output: [external] LCD multiline display Output: [external] LED indicator lights for dashboard Output: [internal] LED indicator lights for Bluetooth and LAN troubleshooting Input: [internal] Power lines (VDD, Ground) Input: [external] [shared] Hard-reset button Input: [Internal] JTAG to program microprocessor/controller Construction and testing: using breadboard Circuit diagram: using PSpice Early assessment of needed components: microprocessor/controller (32-bit), and socket, clock,

clock battery, memory chips, WiFi module, Bluetooth module, UART module, capacitors (?), resistor (?), DIPs, transistors (?), ....

Additional Hardware / Software Design Tasks:

Smartphone app development • Android • iPhone (optional)

Box • System software development

• Selection of shared components:

• Power supply (or external power adapter) • Power connector/jack • Power switch • Cooling fan • Hard-reset switch • Labels • Rubber foot pads

• Design of dashboard (LCD, keys, LEDs) • PCB design and fabrication • Housing design and fabrication (enclosure)

Other Design Tasks:

Build two boxes concurrently to serve as: • Backup, in case one is damaged or disabled during design

• An exhibition model (finished product) and the other one as a see-through design (plexiglass box)
