The Graduate Program in the Department of Kinesiology at San José State University has approximately 100 students across five concentrations: Athletic Training, Exercise Physiology, Sport Management, Sport Studies, and General Kinesiology. Several faculty members also work closely with the newly launched Institute for the Study of Sport, Society, and Social Change. Our department has a rich history of training students to be competent, socially aware professionals in their respective fields, which befits a program on a campus with a longstanding commitment to social justice in sport and larger society. Fact Sheet Department of Kinesiology: Graduate Program Highlights Student-centered focus that blends research with applied knowledge Graduates currently employed as: o College and university professors o Sport managers with college and professional teams o Cardiac rehabilitation specialists o Strength and conditioning specialists for sports teams and health clubs o Physical and Occupational therapists o Athletic trainers for high school, college, and professional teams o High school and college coaches Programs Offered Masters of Arts, Exercise Physiology Masters of Arts, Sport Management Masters of Arts, Sport Studies Masters of Arts, Kinesiology (General) Masters of Science, Athletic Training (beginning 2019) Admission Standards A baccalaureate degree with a major or minor in Kinesiology or successful completion of a maximum of 12 units of foundation coursework as assigned by the Graduate Coordinator or an assigned Academic Advisor. Minimum grade point average of 3.0 in the last 60 semester units (or 90 quarter units) of work. A fully completed CSU Mentor Application, including the Statement of Purpose on the application. GRE General Test scores of 150 verbal and 141 quantitative. Two letters of recommendation (sent directly to the graduate coordinator) *The Graduate Coordinator, in consultation with faculty, may approve conditional admission of a student who: meets the requirements for admission to the Graduate Division, who has neither a major nor minor in Kinesiology; has a grade point average below 3.0 in the last 60 semester units (or 90 quarter units); or scores below 150 verbal and 141 quantitative on the GRE General Test.
