Pastors: Fred Jones (405)699-1255 • Matt Barrie (479)629-2267 January 12, 2018 Facetime The Badger family holidays are filled with medical catastrophes. One year, Melissa Badger's niece stopped breathing at the Thanksgiving table because of a strep infection. In 2003, Badger's son came down with a severe fever and ended up in the emergency room on Christmas. On Christmas Eve 2005, Badger tripped on ice while delivering presents to needy families and sprained her ankle. This year, Badger's husband complains of cold-like symptoms -- fatigue, coughing and a sore throat. Badger struggled with a bug going around her office that was giving everyone stuffy noses and cold symptoms. "Now, we get to worry about that lingering cold all of us have, since we're hosting family this Christmas Eve," said Badger. Hosting family means more than 30 people at their Beloit, Wisconsin, home. End-of-the-year projects, reports, final exams -- it could be all that work before break that spikes a stress hormone in your body. "The increased cortisol level induces likelihood of infection during the holidays," said Dr. Robert Hasty, assistant professor of internal medicine at Nova Southeastern University's medical school. Cortisol is a natural hormone that responds to stress, lowering immunity and making you more susceptible to infections. By Madison Park, CNN December 20, 2010 7:36 a.m. EST It is an interesting piece of news that this CNN correspondent sends our way. Stress and business can stress our immune systems and in that moment we lose our ability to fight off the illnesses that bring our families or us down after the holidays. The Badger Family is there because it reminds me of soo many people whose lives I’ve been a part of. We run and run and run and in the end, we are sick for one simple reason. We didn’t stop when we were told to. “No one told me to!” “I didn’t get that message!” “I haven’t heard anyone tell me to slow down let alone stop in ages!” “When do I find that time?” If you are currently thinking one of the things in quotes above, let me offer you a simple piece of scripture that God has been asking us…ALL OF US….to listen to for ages. 10 “Be still, and know that I am God; Psalms 46:10 (NIV) When’s the last time in the Twenty First Century that you’ve had time to “be still”? When is the last time you set everything aside for a time and “knew that He was God”? When’s the last time you just trusted that God could handle all your stuff while you were taking 30 minutes to an hour to seek Him? We spin our wheels, we grind our noses and we look for more time shouting “quality not quantity “ (while constantly trying to squeeze more “quality” time from every week.) When we push our bodies at the holidays it weakens our systems and causes illness in our bodies. When we push our spirits and try to live life at the lightning fast , mountain high standards of the world, it weakens our spirits and we become spiritually sick and weak. Fortunately, the Great Physician is in! He’s not sitting in His booth waiting for us to come by, but simply asks that we be still and KNOW that He is God. If we stop He will find us and heal the strains of disease and problems that He finds in us. If we honor Him with stillness, He will honor us by making sure all the plates stay spinning (or maybe give us a new vision of which plates are important enough to keep spinning). So I guess what I’m asking is, who wants to start off their year rooted, strong and ready for what ever comes next? Great, then listen carefully… “BE STILL!”

December was a truly busy month. The Church had our usual events for the holiday

season including the Hanging of the Greens and the Christmas Eve service, both of which were very well attended and received.

We also worked at the Kingfisher Winter Nights and took our Funeral dinner ladies through in the church bus after they had enjoyed a good meal.

If you see a nominating committee member be sure to thank them! They have worked very hard to present a list of leaders ready to be considered and approved to serve in the church this year. They had to contend with some people desiring to let go of their positions and then finding someone that would do as exceptional a job as the one that was in those positions. P

We had 24 Hours of Prayer time at the church over the New Year’s and had 25 people participate in that event for others.

Our Nominating commette was in full swing in December and came up with the new board members for consideration, while our Elders had the first of many regular meetings for their group.

It was a wild and hairy month, but one that genuinely reflacted the love of Christ to our community. If this is how the year ends, can you wait for what things God has in store for us next year?
