EDITORIAL Endorsement of Club Members

The policy of Club 100 endorSing a mem ber from our midst for an appointive office was recently brought into public focus.

Because of its timeliness we use these columns to invite you to take a closer gander on the intent purpose and a ims of this policy which was duly adopted a few years ago by our Board of Directors.

The intent of this policy is to acquaint officials that an applicant being considered is a Club 100 member and deemed able and qualified to assume the responsibilities of a particular position to be filled. A resolution passed by the Board of Directors s erves as the courier of this communication.

The expressed solid backing of an organization can prove mighty comforting and oftentimes helpful to any individual in quest of im proving his st anding . Our organization can be proud of the members who have corne up from the ranks to hold key appointive governmental positions. The capable manner in which they have executed their duties is reflected in the high respect they are held by our citizenry.

Ben Miyake and Tom Fukuda have left us to return to Chicago and La Crosse respectively. A fine family portrait of the Fukudas was carried quite prominently in one of our local journals .

Richard Oki was listed as number 5 out of the some two thousand-odd veterans who have applied for ahouse and lot in the Aina Koa sub division. He is a cinch to be the first One Puka Puka-ite to get settled in Kapakahi Valley. In the meantime, other paisans are waiting to be called as their numbers give them a chance to secure a cassa, too.

Fumi Taniyama was recently awarded a prize of the month by a local fishing club for his ulua catch. Our sports fisherman has tacked up quite a record of catches to his credit .

FRANCES OKAZAKI TO HEAD EASTER PARTY

Chalk up two noteworthy "first" for our Easter party to be held at our clubhouse on Sunday, April 3rd.

First of all, it is the first Easter party ever being staged by Club 100.

The second first is the fact that it is the first occasion where a wife of a member has assumed the general chairmanship of a social function. To Mrs. Frances Okazaki, better half of the "monzook" Okazaki household, goes this signal honor.

The party, which is designed to please the bambinoes is scheduled to hold sway from 1:3CJ P .M. to 4:00 P .M.

Real live bunnies and baby chicks are being recruited to play apr 0 min e n t part in the afternoon's activities. Lawn games in which

NEW FACES RECEIVE PASSES TO A CO. STAG PARTY

The presence of many smiling new faces added further color and punch to the already potent traiditonal Able Company stag party at Hananoya Tea House on February 26th.

. . After mumbling alibis ranging from the ngid security restrictions imposed by their mates to the high cost of living to the hardships of looking after their increasing number of broods, the newcomers blended with their old buddies for an evening of fun.

Food, which was originally placed on tables in large quantities, dwindled away in haste as eating was the first order of business .

Backward reconnaissance of GI days coupled with group singing and shooting the same bull over and over again rolled along until tactful eviction by the matron took place at an early late hour.

Guests of Able Chapter present at the affair included Honorary Member Leslie Deacon Club Veep Mike Miyake, Executive Secretary Hideo Kon, Ben (Sea Dog) Miyake now of Chicago and Tom Fukuda from La Crosse Wisconsin. The latter two, who served in th~ first platoon, were on their vacations in the islands at the most opportune time. Both of them chorused that it was "right on" seeing the boys again.

Jesse Hirata of Baker , a pay i n g guest, rompt::d of with the grand prizt:: radio clock door award. Isamu Nakasato copped a leg of ham which was escorted to the kitchen in haste to serve as additional "pu pu" .

Chairman Etsu Sekiya in a deeply con cerned mood remarked, "Somebody told me we never elect officers tonight so we better hold one more party later on in the year ." (Note : Not a bad idea at that) .

REPORTS FHOM THE KEYHOLE RECONNAISANCE

Hawaii Chapter has 0 f f i cia 11 y and graciously accepted the invitation to act as host of the 1955 annual convention. The November 11 -13th dates, we hope, will find many Club lOU members in Hilo to take-in the meeting, sights, conradeship and could be Madam Pele's activities. We strongly urge all of you to start a monthly "On to Hilo" savings plan to provide for transportation and other costs. A trip of this nature is worth every cent you release.

We are happy to see Kisuke Arakaki up and around after his accident of a few months ago. Our Dog Company paisan is itching to get back to his job soon.

Otomatsu Aoki, president of Headquarters Chapter, has been appointed chairman of the anniversary banquet to be held on June 4th. Under his capable guidance malta mangiare and beaucoup enjoyment no doubt will be in store for all those in attendance.

The New Year Party is still beyond the blue horizon. But, Angel Ogata has already started hustling for the affair. "Bra" Nanbara has been commissioned as one of his lieutenants to round-up refreshments effective immediately.

Gentlemen,

Very Sincerely yours, Goro Kuwada

May I express my appreciation for your kindness in sending me "A mba s sad 0 r s in Arms". It brings back many memories.

Please say 'hello' to everyone in the club for me; I hope to be asSigned to Hawaii some day before I retire.

Again many thanks for the bOOk. Sincerely yours, Lt. Col. A. E. McKenzie E-407-27th Ave. Spokane 35, Washington

The following ex c e r p t s were taken from a letter from Maj. Gen. Warren C. Wood, now in command of the 34th Infantry Division:

Please forgive this rather belated acknow-1edgment of your most sincere congratulations on my assumption of command of the famous 34th Infantry Division. I would a p p re cia t e hearing from you and your organization on occasion, knowing the part you played in a great division's history. Perhaps, sometime, I may have the pleasure of visiting your club. Who knows?
