A BUMPY, thorny, dust-swept field mightbe all they have to practice on, but for theGrassland Intermediate School’s kho khoteam not even these adversities will deterthem from achieving their goal.Express visited the school recently as
the team prepared to take on the verybest schools in South Africa in thisfast-paced sport.Sello Ikaneng, the team’s coach and a
teacher at the school, said the schoolwould represent the province in thenational finals in Pretoria from 9 to 16December.The sport of kho kho traces its origins
back to India where it is a traditionalsport which many believe is a modifiedform of the popular run-chase game, basically involving running and chasingan opponent until you touch them.Refilwe Mahlelehlele, the team’s
captain, was confident of victory inPretoria and oozed confidence that theywould bring home the trophy.“We are going there for victory and
nothing else – of course we will bringback the trophy,” Refilwe said, smiling.Refilwe’s sentiments were echoed by
Ikaneng who said they were training hardfor the nationals.“We will come back with the trophy.
We are training hard and our learners arededicated,” Ikaneng said.Asked how they raised funds for the
trip, Mokgabi Ramaphiri, the school’ssports overseer, said they had receivedhelp from the department as well as froma local businessman.“Through these donated funds we were
able to buy the learners sneakers so theycan practice, because previously, with thehot summer weather, their feet got burntby the hot sand,” Ramaphiri said.Bongani Mgemane, team manager and
an administration clerk at the school, toldExpress the team, made up of gr. 5 andgr. 6 learners and contesting in the u.13
category, practised Monday to Thursday.“We cannot get this far and drop the
ball now. We made it through toughqualification rounds. After first beatinglocal schools, then schools from theMotheo region and finally being crownedthe best in the province, we will win inPretoria,” Mgemane said confidently.) Watch a video of the practice sessionon www.express-news.co.za.

THE Thusong Service Centre (formerlyknown as Multi-Purpose CommunityCentres — MPCCs) programme of govern-ment was initiated in 1999 as one of theprimary vehicles for the implementation ofdevelopment communication and informa-tion and to integrate government servicesinto primarily rural communities.
This was done to address historical, social and economic factors which limitedaccess to information, services and partici-pation by citizens as they had to travellong distances to access these services.
The Botshabelo Thusong Service Centreis one of the 171 Thusong centres andthese are one-stop, integrated community
development centreswith communityparticipation andservices relevant tothe people’s needs.
They aim toempower the poorand disadvantagedthrough access toinformation,
services and resources from government,non-governmental organisations (NGOs),parastatals and business enabling them toengage in government programmes for theimprovement of their lives.
Government’s vision for the ThusongService Centres is to provide every SouthAfrican citizen with access to informationand services within their place of resi-dence and in each local municipality withthe purpose of improving the quality oftheir lives through integrated servicedelivery.
As part of making the community awareand familiar with the Thusong programme, the minister of Communications successful-ly closed the Thusong Week at theBotshabelo Thusong Service Centre duringher visit in September when she conductedan Imbizo.) OSCAR PISTO-RIUS’S lawyers havereportedly chal-lenged the State’s in-tention to appeal hisconviction and sen-tence, saying it isdeeply flawed andshould be dismissed.
The athlete wasfound guilty of culpa-ble homicide for thedeath of ReevaSteenkamp. He firedfour shots at his toiletdoor, claiming hethought she was anintruder. JudgeThokozile Masipasentenced him to fiveyears in prison.
eNCA reported onTuesday that Pisto-rius’s lawyers arguedin court papers thatthe State aimed to ap-peal a factual findingand not a legal find-ing about the ath-lete’s intent when hefired shots – but itcould only appeal thejudge’s legal findings, and not her factualfindings.
The lawyers alsoargued that the Statefailed to argue duringthe trial that Pisto-rius intended to killthe person he be-lieved was behind histoilet door. The judgefound he intended toshoot the intruder, but not necessarily tokill the person.
The National Pros-ecuting Authoritysaidpreviously that itfound Judge Masipa’ssentence “shockinglylight and inappropri-ate”, and said the jailterm would not havebeen imposed by anyreasonable court.– News24

THE South African footballfraternity woke up basking inglory on Sunday morning after ason of the soil did us proud –extremely proud indeed. The achievement would not
necessarily be on the same scaleas the exploits of the BafanaBafana class of 1996, which wonthe continental championship orthe qualifying for the World Cup,but Ephraim “Shakes” Mashaba’stroops have surely restored thenation’s pride and unquestionablebelief in the national team. For the first time in as many
years, Bafana Bafana havequalified for the 2015 Africa Cupof Nations Tournament that willbe staged in Equatorial Guinea. They nogal did that with one
qualifier match still to be played. In the past South Africa could
only qualify for the popularAfrican football showpiece byvirtue of being the hosts, but thatis a thing of the past now thanksto Mashaba who has turnedBafana Bafana into a well-oiledmachine since he was appointedas the head coach in July thisyear. He took over from Gordon
Igesund whose contract, whichended in August, was never rene-wed by the South African FootballAssociation (Safa). Under the mentorship of Mashaba, the MightyBafana Bafana have played fivematches and they are yet to lose.Mashaba, who was unceremo-
niously dropped from the team in2004 is the only coach to have leda South African team to theOlympics in 2000. Remember theexploits of the national u.23 sideat the Sydney Olympics where welowered the Brazilian flag?
That was the best South Africau.23 side we have ever had. Itcomprised talented youngsterssuch as Quinton Fortune, DelronBuckley, Benni McCarthy,Siyabonga Nomvete and SteveLekoelea.Back to Mashaba: He has
proven without a shadow of adoubt that he is the right man totake Bafana Bafana to dizzyingheights. The former Swaziland senior
men’s national team coach had asuccessful stint with BafanaBafana in the past whereby hewon the Cosafa tournament in2003. He also qualified the teamfor the 2004 Africa Cup of NationsTournament in Tunisia. Hisrecord with Bafana is glowing.Mashaba’s success with the
national team can be attributed tothe fact that he respects hisplayers, and his players respecthim in return. He is also able tobring out the best in players.I hope the powers-that-be at Safa
show their faith in the man andkeep him at the helm muchlonger. I believe he has what ittakes to qualify Bafana for thenext World Cup Tournament.Meanwhile, South Africa face
Nigeria in the 2015 Afcon Qualifi-er at the Akwa Ibom Stadiumtoday at 19:00.We wish Bra Shakes and his
boys the best of luck.

FAITH is the only rope thatanchors us in safety against allthe turbulent winds of life.
It doesn’t matter who you are inlife, when the wind of life blowsagainst you; you will certainlymove, but the only thing that willkeep you anchored is your faith.
If you act in faith in the midstof sickness, faith will thereforebecome your anchor to healingagainst sickness, if you act infaith in the midst of your poverty, faith will therefore be your anchorto blessing against that poverty.
Act in faith. Failure to act infaith will nullify our prayers. Many have given up on their faithbecause of troubles and adversi-ties in life.
To the real and true Christiantroubles and adversity are goodsoil in which faith flourishes forbetter aspirations in life.
The experiences of believers inboth the Old and New Testamenttestify that being faithful to Goddoes not eliminate adversities. This means we should learn to actin faith in whatsoever situationthat seems to be threatening ourjoy and peace.
Matthew 14:22: Here the Biblereports the terrifying experienceof the disciples of Jesus Christ.
As they were sailing to anotherplace, Jesus decided to followthem by walking on the water. The Bible says when they sawhim, they became afraid, becausethey thought it was a ghost.
Immediately He told them totake courage.
“It is I. Don’t be afraid.” Peterwas the only disciple in thisincident who had the courage to
ask Jesus to allow him to walk onwater. The Bible says Peterwalked on water. It might havebeen a step or two, but he didwalk on the water.
Something that caught myattention is that when Peter sawthe wind, he became afraid andimmediately he began to sink. This is a picture of many of ustoday. When things are fine, weconfess Jesus to be the Lord, Thehealer, the Deliverer, Providerand so on, but as soon as thewind of life blows in a contrarydirection to our expectations, fearcomes and immediately we giveup our faith.
We should know that as soon asfaith is broken, we are disconnect-ed from God. Once disconnectedfrom God, Satan will play histune. Dear Christians, we need tolearn to act in faith in the midstof troubles.
For your faith to flourish, it hasto face the scorching sun. For goldto be gold, fire is the only option. With the authority in the NameJesus I say to your faith riseagain in the Name of Jesus Christ.Whatever is dead in your life, rise, every dry bone rise again inthe Name of Jesus. Receive thegrace to exercise your faith.) To hear more of these mes-sages visit the New HorizonMinistry at the Joe SolomonSchool in Heidedal everySunday from 09:00.

MANDELA PARK. – More than100 pastors from different church-es in the country and neighbour-ing countries such as Lesotho andBotswana attended a three-dayseminar which was held at theRobala Lodge in Qwaqwa recently.
The seminar, which was aimedat teaching the pastors on how tolead in God’s way and also toteach them to praise God, wasorganised and facilitated by SouthKorean pastor Enoch Yu.
Yu told Express Eastern FreeState that it was important forpastors to go back to the basics. He said the way pastors conductedthemselves was being taken intoquestion.
“The only way of rectifying theirbehaviour is to unite and come upwith a solution. I am here to tryto help Southern African pastorswith the problems they encounter. We want to pray and praise Godin one way.
“We have to behave Godly asspiritual leaders. Then our Lordwill trust us as leaders.
“It’s God’s will for those whohave little knowledge to empowerthose who do not. We came all theway just to show the love of God.We want to make a differencewhen we go back to South Korea,”said Yu.
Abram Mohale, the organisingcommittee leader, said they werehappy that their fellow-brothersfrom another continent came toshare their knowledge with them.
“I hope that we will do thingsdifferently after this seminar. I sowish that this seminar could havecatered for more people, because
the information shared here wasso important.
“I hope that next time it willcater for more people so that wecan change the perception thatwe are doing this for money, that we are no longer servingour calling,” he said.

LT GEN. THABETHE MPEMBE, FreeState police commissioner, has called for acomplete shutdown of dysfunctional mineshafts in the Goldfields, as well as thetightening of security at such shafts. He expressed these strong sentiments last
Tuesday at the media briefing in Welkomfollowing the police’s intensive anti-illicitgold crackdown which resulted in thebusting of about 38 illegal gold dealers. The suspects were arrested in the
Goldfields towns of Welkom, Virginia andOdendaalsrus by the joint task teamcomprising Crime Intelligence, the TacticalResponse Team, as well as the MiningIndustry and Directorate for Priority CrimeInvestigation (DPCI), also known as theHawks. The suspects, some of whom have been
identified as foreigners from Mozambique,Zambia and Zimbabwe, began appearing inthe Welkom Magistrate’s Court last Thurs-day. They are facing charges of illegallydealing in gold.“What needs to be done, is to completely
close down unused mine shafts and beef-upsecurity there, as some people have beenrequesting. These shafts are a fertileground for criminals and elicit goldsyndicates,” Mpembe said.“Integrated forces that will include the
Department of Mineral Resources and localmunicipality, as well as the police, have tocome together in closing down these shaftsand also demolish all unoccupied minehostels which are used to harbour crimi-nals and illegal gold dealers.“We are confident we are making signifi-
cant progress in dealing with the challengeof illicit gold mining in the region.”Mpembe said the busting of 38 suspected
gold dealers, including undergrounddiggers, was a breakthrough in curbingillicit gold that has also seen police officers
involved. The arrest of the suspected illegal gold
dealers was preceded by the busting of 25people, which included 19 police officersand 6 civilians in the Goldfields townmid-September. They are facing chargesranging from corruption to money launder-ing.Mpembe attributes the success in arrests
to the ability of the anti-crime system ofthe law enforcement agencies.“The arrest of civilians, illegal gold
dealers’ syndicates and members of thepolice who we believe have been colludingin illicit gold crimes is an indication thatwe have improved ways of detectingcriminals.“We are improving in all methods of
investigation and use of technology to
break into the sophisticated methods ofcrime syndicates. We are very confidentthat we are going to get to the bottom ofillicit gold mining and dealing in the FreeState. It is a fact that crime syndicates usesophisticated means too in their mission.“The police have further clammed down
on suspected illegal gold dealers, impound-ing their various luxury vehicles, some ofwhich are believed to have been utilized inthe transit of gold and purchased with cashgenerated from elicit gold transactions.”Butana Komphela, MEC for Police, Roads
and Transport, said they were gunning forthe kingpins.“More arrests will follow. The public will
see what luxurious lives these people live intheir houses when the Asset Forfeiture Unitconfiscates their assets,” said Komphela.

Du Plessis left the field inthe Springboks’ 31-28 victoryover England last Saturdayafter injuring his hamstringand knee. He went for scansin Padova on Monday evening.
“Fortunately, Jannie’s kneeis fine, but the scans con-firmed our suspicion of ahamstring strain and he willnot be able to play againstItaly on Saturday,” said theSpringbok team doctor, CraigRoberts.
Willie le Roux, who injuredhis cheek bone againstEngland, also went for scans
on Monday evening, but theresults were good and he hasbeen cleared of any fractures.
“We’ll manage Willie duringtraining this week, but heshould be available to faceItaly,” said Roberts.

WITH Tuesday’s deadline looming for theWest Indies players to sign tour contracts,Cricket South Africa CEO, Haroon Lorgat, does not foresee any problems ahead ofnext month’s scheduled incoming cricketseries against South Africa.
“We are quite confident and optimistic.Even listening to player comments . . . butcertainly the official feedback we’ve had isquite positive and encouraging that it willhappen,” Lorgat said on Monday.
The West Indies players pulled out oftheir tour against hosts India last monthover a pay dispute with the West IndiesCricket Board (WICB), with one ODI, a T20International (T20I) and three tests stillremaining.
The West Indies are scheduled to playthree tests, three T20Is and five ODIs ontheir tour of South Africa ending on 28January – just over two weeks before theCricket World Cup begins in Australia andNew Zealand.
As the Proteas prepare to battle againstAustralia in the third ODI on Wednesday, news of the fate of the West Indian tourcould begin to surface at the same time.
With the domestic T20 tournament endingon 12 December, involving five West Indianplayers – Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo,André Russell, Chris Gayle and DarrenSammy – Lorgat was optimistic they wouldbe eager to continue their stay in SouthAfrica.
“There will be some players in the final, which is really just a couple of days beforethe first test starts. We’ll see the WestIndian style of cricket all through thesummer now.”
Following their withdrawal from theIndia tour, the WICB was ordered to pay afine of USD42 million (approximately R462million) to the Board of Control for Cricketin India (BCCI), and any further wagedispute could effectively ruin the future ofcricket in the Caribbean for the foreseeablefuture.
It would seem then, for all concerned, theWest Indies tour to South Africa must goon. – Supersport.com

My last resort to bring backmy lost lover.
Me and my wife Bridget had givenup after losing my job and strugglingto keep up with my car and house
payment. I had to change schools formy children from private schools to
government schools because financially we were not stableanymore, but thanks to my in-law who gave me this woman ofGod's number, she helped me to turn my life around financially
by giving me a magic ring which brought back hope into mylife. It cost me only R800 and for the first time in my life I went
into a casino with my wife and we used our magic to hit ajackpot. Now my house and car are paid off and my childrenare back in private schools - now life is so wonderful, so in
case you are looking for the best healer, please look no more.

Things in my life wentfrom good to worse in avery short time. My lovelive, financial problemsjealousy, my husband’s
family were all against me.Luckily I came acrossSonia through a friend. She helped me and
showed me my enemiesthrough a mirror for only R200. She did miracles in my life. She told me all my problems without mentioning anythingto her. She showed me the people who worked hard tosee me suffering some of which were my friends and
relatives. She performed a special prayer, washed awaymy bad luck and cleansed my home. Gave me a lovepotion with a ring for my financial problems in less thanfive days, my husband was always by my side and my
enemies confessed and asked for forgiveness. Come andvisit me at Bayswater.

BAFANA BAFANA are confident ofbrushing the Super Eagles aside when thetwo continental powerhouses meet in theAfcon Qualifier match at the Ibom Interna-tional Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State,Nigeria, tonight at 19:00.Shakes Mashaba’s men, who jetted off to
Nigeria on Monday, have already qualifiedfor the Afcon 2015 tournament to be heldin Equatorial Guinea following theirhard-fought 2-1 victory over Sudan inDurban last Saturday. There is no love lost when South
Africa and Nigeria cross swords in anysporting code, and Mashaba is well awareof that.“The Nigerians don’t want to lose
against South Africa, that alone will makethis match a tough one, and we also havethe assignment to break the hoodoo thatwe always lose when we play againstthem. We have to go out there positiveand believe we will do well,” saidMashaba. His charges have not lost in the five
Afcon qualifiers played so far. They haveregistered two away wins, two home drawsand one win at home.“Our away record is very good, and we
can only hope for the best in the upcomingmatch. What makes me happy is that wehave managed to score two goals at home, which was a challenge in our past homegames,” Mashaba said.“I will be even happier if we score
some goals in Nigeria and that will giveus the dignity we deserve.“Winning three away games will defi-
nitely give us the respect we deserve as anation.“Once we beat Nigeria, the reigning
African champions, it will bring confi-dence to the whole squad and to thecountry and also finish the qualifierswithout a defeat,” he added.Mashaba has retained the same team
that beat Sudan this past weekend, buthe might make some changes in hisstarting line-up from the previous encoun-ter.Thulani Serero, who gave a man of the
match performance against Sudan, is adoubtful starter due to a hamstring injuryhe had suffered on Saturday. But Lehlohonolo Majoro, who missed the
match because of an ankle sprain, isavailable for selection.“There will be one or two changes to the
playing personnel, but we don’t want tobreak the rhythm of the team because theyare doing very well.“At the same time we have to give other
players a chance to see what they have tooffer,” Mashaba confirmed.Bafana Bafana go into this match having
already won Group A. They are sitting ontop of the log with 11 points after fivematches.Nigeria and Congo are sitting on
positions two and three, respectively. The two sides have each collected
seven points after the same number ofgames, but Nigeria have a better goaldifference.Sudan, who will face Congo at Pointe-
Noire tonight at 19:00, are perched on thebase of the log with a meagre three points– and they have failed to qualify for nextyear’s Afcon tournament.) Read more about Bafana Bafana on p. 5.
