The easy way,

using a live CDBy Carl Weisheit

Why did I use Xfce and Xubuntu?

Using a live CD will let you explore the Xfce GUI without installing or altering anything on your system

Ubuntu is one of the most popular Linux Distro at this time* and comes pre-installed on major brands such as Dell Computers

Xubuntu is the Ubuntu Distro using the Xfce GUI Xfce is a lightweight GUI used in Linux. It uses less system

resources than heavier GUIs such as KDE. This allows older computers to run faster.

In Xubuntu the Xfce GUI is configured to look just like the well known Gnome GUI on Ubuntu

Xfce will install and run most of the same applications that work with heavier GUIs like KDE and Gnome.
