A key verb in the journey from Egypt to Sinai is “test” which in Hebrew (nasah) means “to prove or put to the test.”

At least four times in the journey from Egypt to Sinai this verb is used. It was used back in 15:25 and it will be used again in this incident in 16:4.

Manna and Quail (16:1-36)Manna and Quail (16:1-36)-Notice how grumbling about God’s leading through God’s leaders is the same as grumbling against God Himself (16:2, 7, 8).- Notice how the past isn’t as bad now as it once was when they were in Egypt.-In the midst of a life of grace there is the need to obey (16:4, 28; John 14:15, 21, 23; 15:10)

believer, He has already proven Himself. God’s reliability is not something that needs to

be established at this point in the journey.God’s presence is with them in the daily

manna, the pillar of cloud and fire, the words God gives to Moses.
