SESSION ONE - Introduction

How I got started doing deliverance

I. Resources for Deliverance. A. Healing Through Deliverance - Peter Horrobin

B. Charles Kraft Material

C. Ken Fish - Deliverance Training CD’s at www.kingdomfireministries.org

D. Derek Prince - Basics of Deliverance on YouTube. For an intro to deliverance

E. The Handbook for Spiritual Warfare by Dr Ed Murphy

F. Hidden Secrets of the Kingdom of Darkness - Ralph Gilbert

G. Spiritual Warfare by John Wimber

II. Why Do Deliverance?

A. Jesus sent us to do it. - Matthew 10:8 - Jesus commanded the apostles to heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. He later told them to teach others to do the same things He had taught them (Matthew 28:20).

1. I John 3:8 - The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the evil one.

2. I John 4:17 - In this world we are like Him.

B. It goes hand in hand with healing ministry

1. Deliverance is the cause of a number of illnesses in the Bible. A. Epileptic boy (Mk. 9:14-29) B. Peter’s feverish mother-in-law (Lk. 4:38-39 cf vv. 35, 41)

2. If it is a cause behind a lot of illness so that healing is being prevented and/or not kept, then if we don’t do deliverance how much more healing are we missing out on?

C. Healing and Deliverance are the children’s bread. (Matthew 15:26) 1. Healing is meant for the believer according to this passage 2. It should be as common in our churches as any other part of our ministry and service.

! 2

D. It is a compassionate ministry 1. When it’s done well it is usually dialed down not ramped up.

a. Matthew 8:16-17 2. Yes it can be messy but this should not make us afraid to engage in it. Jesus was

moved with compassion and he healed and delivered all that came to Him. 3. Matthew 9:36, “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they

were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”(NIV)

E. It is part of the historic tool box of the Vineyard. - While this may not sound spiritual, it is part of what we did. The Wimbers mentioned it

often when recounting the history and beginnings of the Vineyard. - For the benefit of God’s people (1 John 3:8) this ministry needs to be as continually

cultivated as any other ministry in a church.

III. Can a Christian be Demonized?

A. Angels verses Demons 1. Devil - greek Diabolos(Satan as a title, not plural.) Means accuser 2. Demon - Greek daemonios. propitiate the gods. 3. Evil spirit, unclean spirit in the gospels. 4. Angels live in the heavenlies/ demons walk on the earth 5. Angels have bodies of their own/ demons are bodiless and intensely crave a body to

manifest their cravings through. Ex. Lying spirit needs a tongue, etc, etc. 6. Phrases used in NT for someone under the power of an evil spirit a. To have b. To be in

B. Most translations of the Bible render the Greek “daimonizomai” as “demon possessed.” 1. However, in the 1980’s the term “demonized” became more popular because it allows

for a dynamic understanding of demonic activity. 2. Demonic Possession, as in the case of the Gadarene demoniac of Mark 5:1-20, is

somewhat rare. Cases such as this are emphasized in Scripture because of their severity. Total possession of a christian cannot happen.

Note: Virtually none of those claiming that Christians cannot be demonized has ever cast a demon out of anyone—believer or non-believer.

B. Spirit, soul, and body (I Thess. 5:23) 1. The triune person a. spirit (Pneuma)

! 3

Page 4: Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlbergvalleyvineyard.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Deliverance_Workshop... · Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlberg SESSION ONE ... Deliverance is the

b. soul (Psyche) c. body(soma) Hebrews 4:12, “12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged

sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart

a. These are the same words as in Thessalonians. b. The greek language is specific. They don’t use the different words unless they

intend a different meaning between the two. 2. Paul that which I do I don’t want to do. Romans 7:15-20

C. The witness of Scripture 1. Saul (due to disobedience) - I Sam. 16:14ff, 18:10, 19:9 2. David incited to number Israel - I Chr. 21:1 3. Job’s possessions and health smitten - Job 1:12, 2:5-7 4. Joshua the high priest accused - Zech. 3:1 5. Man in the synagogue - Mk. 1:23, Lk. 4:33 6. Crippled woman - Lk. 13:16 7. Peter speaks dark counsel - Mk. 8:33, Mt. 16:23 8. Judas Iscariot - Lk. 22:3, Jn. 13:27 (cf. Lk. 10:20) 9. Ananias lies to the Spirit (Ac. 5:3) 10. Corinthian backslider - I Cor. 5:5 11. Paul’s thorn - II Cor. 12:7 12. Paul hindered from thessalonika - I thess. 2:18 13. Hymenaeus and Alexander - I Tim. 1:20

IV. How Are Christians Demonized? A. Carry-over from the life in the Old Nature. Eph. 2:1-3, Gal. 4:3,9. B. Doorways of Access Prov. 16:32, 25:28

1. Lack of boundaries and self-control can lead down a path toward demonic affliction Ex. Like the city in Prov. 25:28, a city can have a duly elected mayor yet still have

crime, gangs, and the mob running around in parts of the city. That is how it is with our lives. THIS IS THE PROCESS OF SANCTIFICATION

2. Bethel Sozo’s 4-doors A. Fear 1 Sam 28:5 B. Witchcraft/Occult(rebellion) 1 Sam. 15:23, 28:7-19 C. Sexual Sin D. Hatred 1 John 3:15 NOTE: these CAN be doorways to demonization of one’s life but do not imply it’s

automatic except in the case of witchcraft. - For every negative emotion there can be a respective demon. When this

emotion is compulsive it is likely a demon. **See Feeling Words List in Appendix III

V. Category of Deliverance and Soul Healing A. Matthew 10:5-8, Mark 6:7-13 1. In Matthew 10:6 Jesus tells them to go to the house of Israel. a. Deliverance is for the people of God, not the unbeliever. 2. The instruction of Jesus included casting out demons. a. How much do we really know about casting out demons compared to other parts of the healing ministry? b. Mark 6:13 tells us they cast out many demons 3. In reality deliverance is Part of the healing ministry which is why we talk about it that way a. We are not trying to teach deliverance alone. b. We are going to be talking about a category of the healing ministry called Deliverance and Inner Healing. c. Healing of the soul and casting out of demons.

A. Mike Breen Is a leader in pioneer of the missional movement work in the church in the last 30 years. He is dyslexic but tells of how when he first read the Bible it was not backwards, he

could read it like normal B. What causes demons to flee in one regard but then allows them to come back? Open Doors in our lives They give access to demonic affliction in our lives, in which demons may come and go,

lie to us and trigger us(torment us) over and over without reprisal. C. Exodus 20:1-17

II. The 10 Commandments A. Exodus 20:1-17

1. Verse 2 No other God’s before(besides) me _________________________ a. Examples of: Horoscopes, crystal balls, tarot cards, psychic readings, worship of

satan, crystals, table tipping, wicca, etc

2. _________________ Verse 4 No graven image a. you worship a representation of a god with the image, but you do not need it to

participate in worship… any participation in the blending of religions is syncretism.

b. Examples of: All Eastern religions, karate, yoga, free masonry, islam, most of the “isms” in life, addictions of all kinds, etc

c. The karate guy in Phill’s church

3. ___________________ Verse 7 Do not take the Lord’s name in vain. a. YAHWEH’s name was so holy they would not even speak it, or write it fully, just

in case they would not give it the proper reverence. Adonai and Jehovah instead. b. The Lord’s Prayer - Starts with Hallowed be your name. 1. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks - Luke 6:45 ACTUALLY

READ IT c. But God’s name is denigrated to a curse word. There is a reason they use the term

cursing d. The Hebrew word for Vain

1. Shav - 1) emptiness, vanity, falsehood 1a) emptiness, nothingness, vanity 1b) emptiness of speech, lying 1c) worthlessness (of conduct) 2. While we have talked about using God’s name as a curse word this has brought

a singular dimension to what I believe is a much broader broader definition of cursing.

! 6

4. _______________ Verse 8 Remember the sabbath a. The sabbath is a spiritual practice for our benefit. “the sabbath was made for man,

not man for the sabbath” 1. We work from rest not rest from work(Mike Breen, Building a Discipling

Culture) b. Living without margin in our lives creates all kinds of stress in our lives. Margin

in finances, schedule, boundaries in relationships, etc. Creates a weariness in us and when we are tired, we are more cranky, short tempered, we do not think clearly

We can then make bad decisions, etc. c. Examples: Boundaries is the ability to say no in life. Proverbs 25:28 tells us,

“Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.”(NIV)

d. When we live a life of a lack of self control we have basically opened the door and said, come on in.

5. ______________ Verse 12 Honor your father and mother a. When we do not honor we are rebelling. God is basically saying we learn how

NOT to rebel against him by learning honor in the home. Healthy discipline in the home is important.

b. 1 Samuel 15:23, “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king.”

Saul had disobeyed the command of God to destroy the Amalekites. Nothing was to

be left. c. Rebellion is taking control ourselves. It opens the door to witchcraft because

witchcraft always seeks control; of other people, of oneself, of the future d. When you see someone who struggles with giving up control there will likely be a

witchcraft spirit there. e.

6. ___________________ Verse 13 You shall not murder a. Murder is the destruction of God’s creation b. Matthew 5:21-24, “21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall

not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother[a] will be liable to judgment; whoever insults[b] his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell[c] of fire. 23 So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before

! 7

Page 8: Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlbergvalleyvineyard.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Deliverance_Workshop... · Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlberg SESSION ONE ... Deliverance is the

the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

c. d. Examples of: Hatred, Anger, Bitterness, Receiving an offense, Suicide. When you are driving out this spirit you will likely drive it out as a spirit of murder,

or hated, or anger, etc.

7. _____________________ Verse 14 You shall not commit adultery a. There is a lot to unpack here like what constitutes marriage in God’s eyes,

divorce, what sexual behaviors are acceptable and not, all of which leaves us at the point that

1. Marriage is between one man and one woman 2. Sexual activity is only ordained within the covenant of marriage. b. Any other activity is opening the door to harm to us. c. This is so rampant in society today, it is a primary gateway used by satan to harm

God’s people. d. It is not just active promiscuity, it also includes sin done to someone(being a

victim). e. Examples: Everything and anything outside of the covenant of marriage of one

man and one woman.

8. _____________________ Verse 15 You shall not steal a. I’m thinking of it beyond going into someone’s house and taking their possessions. b. known as one of the 7 deadly sins c. Greed causes stealing of various kinds. 1. Thinking of a present day example of a Bernie Madoff, or Enron in Texas 2. But Identity theft is a big deal today d. As a biblical example of greed opening the door to demonization remember Judas

Iscariot (Luke 22:3-6) Greed drove him and opened him up to satan entering him which cumulatively led to his suicide.

e. Mark Madoff - Bernie’s son committed suicide THE POINT IS NOT THAT ALL GREED LEADS TO SUICIDE - but that greed creates

a doorway of demonization that in these cases resulted in suicide 9. ________________ Verse 16 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor a. Also known as one of the 7 deadly sins. b. Biblical example - Ananias and Sapphire in Acts 5:1-11 1. the lying created a doorway for satan to traffic and manipulate them to make up

the story. The benefit they were going to receive was unjust admiration of the people

10. _______________ Verse 17 You shall not covet your neighbor’s [things] a. May have a partner of lust in a non sexual but sensual sense.

! 8

Page 9: Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlbergvalleyvineyard.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Deliverance_Workshop... · Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlberg SESSION ONE ... Deliverance is the

Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlberg

b. This is a place of dis-contentment. Yet Paul sets an example for us by saying a way to not open this doorway is to learn to be content with what you have. (Acts 4:11-13)

1. Paul’s secret to contentment was surrender and trust in God c. Biblical example: 1. David with Bathsheba. He actually opened 4 doors starting with this door

right here. Envy, Sexual Sin, Lying and then Murder 2. The point is that in order to get to murder he opened the door to being

manipulated to continue covering up the original sin

III. Closing Thoughts A. this is not about being the sin police

1. But it’s plays a part in opening us up to giving satan access to our lives 2. Sin plays a part in the overall healing ministry because there are times when it is what

actually is in the way. 2. There are more or other ways to categorize doorways such as FEAR is a doorway

B. Isn’t this legalism 1. It is not trying to be the police. It is simply trying to identify ways that we may not

be aware that we are opening our lives up to be demonized.

C. Grace verses law 1. Jesus said I have not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it (Matthew 5:17) a. This passage speaks of Jesus fulfilling the purpose of the law b. According to Romans 8:3 what that purpose of the law was was to bring life, but it

was powerless to do so. c. Jesus then is the one who brings life (John 10:10). d. So the law has a benefit in that if you are able to follow it, good things come to

your life. 2. Not everything about the Law of the Old Testament goes away a. Ken says, “What was forbidden in the OT is still forbidden in the NT… b. The morality of the Law did not disappear with the New Covanent… none of us

would agree that it is ok to sleep with a mother in law, or others. 3. In it’s extreme, the concept of this teaching is Marcion.

SESSION TWO - Strongholds I. Intro:

A. Want to talk about the battle of the mind This is not positive mental thinking. It is a battle B. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5

! 9

Page 10: Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlbergvalleyvineyard.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Deliverance_Workshop... · Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlberg SESSION ONE ... Deliverance is the

Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlberg

C. Our Concept is Strongholds

II. What is a Stronghold A. The Greek Language

1. 1 a castle, stronghold, fortress, fastness 2 anything on which one relies 1 of the arguments and reasonings by which a disputant endeavours to fortify his

opinion and defend it against his opponent a. Although they are a real physical place Paul is using this natural concept to

describe a spiritual reality as a set of invisible constructs that we find in our lives. They are the lies that we believe in our own life that do not line up with God’s word.

B. What is a Stronghold 1. In Paul’s day

a. it was a fortified city. 1. There are strength in numbers so a walled city would keep people safe inside

from being attacked in open land by marauders. 2. So they would build a strong place of protection b. It also became a place where armies could rest and fortify themselves 1.”In history strongholds played a vital role, no army could successfully defeat an

opponent and let their stronghold stand within conquered territory. One of the main objectives of armies were to remove strongholds within conquered territory.” - truthnet.org

2. Strongholds in History a. Constantinople 1.”Constantinople was a stronghold, the seat of Byzantine Christianity for more

than 1100 years, now it became the seat of Islamic power. The Muslim ruler changed the name from Constantinople to Istanbul. From this city, Mehmett II planned to advance his kingdom throughout Europe and the Middle East, establishing world empire, he died before he could succeed.” - truthnet.org

b. Masada - a famous Jewish Stronghold 1. Is a Jewish stronghold on top of a 1300 ft mountain where a Jewish revolt took

place. 2. On the top there was palaces, and housing, in order to sustain life beyond the

reach of the Roman Empire. 3. Jerusalem fell in AD70 and the stronghold of Masada fell in AD 72-73.

3. The Purpose a. To protect and fortify

! 10

Page 11: Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlbergvalleyvineyard.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Deliverance_Workshop... · Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlberg SESSION ONE ... Deliverance is the

Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlberg

b. From a stronghold an army can fortify it’s defenses and launch attacks on outside territory.

Paul uses the picture of a physical stronghold to represent the reality of spiritual strongholds in our lives.

My purpose now is to describe to you how strongholds in our lives work and how

we tear them down in ministry and to show you how it integrates with the deliverance ministry. It really can be done.

4. What is a Stronghold? a. It is a system (web) of lies that the enemy uses to keep us from seeing truth 1. You cannot cast a stronghold out because it is not a demon 2. They create a reality through which we see life a. Perhaps the most famous example of this in our day is the German

bunkers built into the hills on the beaches of Normandy

b. 2 Cor 10:5 1. They are systems of thinking that do not represent the truths of scripture 2. Arguments and every lofty opinion a. These things look like truth, they appear logical and maybe even wise b. But they are actually mocking the glory, Sovereignty, and truth of God. c. They often enable addiction, compulsions, obsessions, or inordinate fear(JPJ). d. It becomes a place of darkness in our lives that enables darkness to traffic in and

out of our lives continually triggering us with those lies. 1. Matthew 24:28, “Where the dead carcass is(darkness), there the vultures will

gather” a. In the Bible, vultures are a picture of demons(like ravens). So when we

open our lives to satans lies we enable darkness to enter us and it makes it that much easier for us to become demonized by that darkness.

b. When you leave strongholds active in your life you are inviting demonic forces to come (John Paul Jackson - Strongholds 2 on YouTube)

6. How do Strongholds work? a. 2 Cor. 10:3, For though we walk in the flesh we are not waging war according to

the flesh 1. strongholds make us react to life in fleshly ways when we should be responding

in faith b. they originate out of harms, traumas, etc, and the enemy stands at the door and

lies to us.

! 11

Page 12: Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlbergvalleyvineyard.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Deliverance_Workshop... · Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlberg SESSION ONE ... Deliverance is the

Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlberg

1. When we agree with these lies in our hearts, we’ve opened the door and a stronghold is created in our lives.

b. The more we agree with the lies of the strongholds the more we limit

God’s ability to act on our behalf. 2. As a result of their presence they stop our maturation process in Jesus a. If you’ve ever seen someone start acting like a little girl, or scared little

boy, it’s because they are being triggered back at the traumatic moment… in a situation like this you have to first work to help the person feel safe, build trust.

7. What do the lies that help create strongholds in our lives sound like? a. God doesn’t love you, Can’t love you b. You’ll never have enough c. They don’t like you really. d. Your family would be better off if you were dead. e. If fear has been modeled to you in life, then everything is against you, or

everything could collapse, or you cannot trust people easily f. It’s time you start taking care of yourself first I’ve seen many marriages break apart with this lie at the center

8. How do we destroy strongholds? a. It is a combination of inner healing and deliverance b. Help people understand that they are cooperating with a lie(this is not counseling) c. Healing the memory 1. What lies did I believe as a result of this “x”? 2. What is the truth you want me to know?

d. Walk the person through prayers of forgiveness, and/or renunciation of the lie and it’s benefits

e. Walk them through a prayer of establishing agreement with God’s truths for their lives(in replace of the lie).

f. YOU break the power of the lies and command it to be cancelled, destroyed, (whatever).

From this point you will move back and forth between the inner healing work on the strongholds, and driving out demons.

! 12

Session Three - Doing Deliverance(Tools and Techniques)

I. Opening Thoughts The Goal: Get them out and keep them out. . . .

A. Thoughts on technique 1. Many different camps on how to do deliverance.

a. Don’t talk to them ever - we’re not interested in taking them out for coffee! b. They are liers - there is not one instance in the Bible of a demon lying to Jesus in

response to authority. 2. Whatever works without becoming enamored with darkness.

a. Get the name/what they do

c. Don’t worry about if they are lying. It will only confuse the situation and bog down your progress. If you’ve found later that something was a lie, then go back in and do more work.

B. Expulsion = casting a spirit out with commands 1. Ground rules

a. When a spirit surfaces on its own or is shown to you b. Treat the person gently and with dignity c. Be sensitive to anointings - compassion, power, faith d. Maintain eye contact (Mt. 6:22; Ac. 3:4, 13:9)

2. Classical deliverance model - OK if you suspect demons. Exclamation points indicate use of authority, not use of volume, AND if you truly know your authority volume is not necessary a. Command / challenge the spirit to manifest (!) b. Command to come up / come to attention and respond (!) c. Stop (!) them from making a commotion (rebuke them) d. Silence them (!) e. Identify (!) them (Mk. 5:8,9) f. Command them to leave (!) or to come out in Jesus’ name (Ac. 16:18) g. Command them not to return (!)

3. Common deliverance practice a. Break the power of __________ (!)

! 13

Page 14: Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlbergvalleyvineyard.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Deliverance_Workshop... · Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlberg SESSION ONE ... Deliverance is the

Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlberg

b. Look at me (!) c. Command them to leave (!)

C. Multiple Demons 1. Demons frequently congregate

a. It is often helpful to identify the ruling spirit b. The ruler will otherwise be first or last out c. Spirits can be bound together (Mk. 5:9)

2. Information can be gained from demons

a. Caution: they are deceptive b. Caution: Beware of undue interest in this c. Learn about the presence of others d. learn about what they are clinging to

3. The prayee may need work with you a. To call on the Lord for help by him/herself b. To renounce practices and beliefs - these can be done even in the presence of full

manifestation. Meaning, you can try to shut things down but the manifestation may not always stop so just keep working, connect with the person.

4. Dedicate the body (Ro. 12:1-2)

5. Some spirits leave violently, others quietly - in the latter case, you will both feel the spiritual atmosphere change

6. Beware of the temptation to “get them all now” a. There are times it is better to leave demonic influence in place, the process needs

to be slow b. Demons are like dust, they’ll keep - my own story 3 months with it known to me.

D. Follow-up prayer for cleansing for residue and infilling of Holy Spirit (Lk. 11; 25) 1. Reassure the person

a. They aren’t weird b. God loves them

2. Prepare them to deal with counterattacks 3. Pray for healing of related cases 4. Remind them of the benefits of baptism, communion, worship and fellowship 5. Remind them of the benefits of personal growing in Christ through reading,

meditating on, and memorizing the word, and through prayer 6. Teach them to renew their mind (Ro. 12:2; Col. 3:2)

E. Thoughts on Manifestations and Quiet Deliverance 1. Shutting Manifestations down lowers the skill of discernment

! 14

Page 15: Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlbergvalleyvineyard.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Deliverance_Workshop... · Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlberg SESSION ONE ... Deliverance is the

Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlberg

2. Manifestations can teach us what is wrong or right 3. Manifestation is different than deliverance. 4. Conditions to shut down manifestations a. To protect the person’s dignity. b. When it is robbing the person’s faith c. When it is sucking faith out of the room. d. The person would be in danger

APPENDIX

I. The Concept of Demonization A. Demonic influence is frequently encountered at a much less severe level when

ministering to people. 1. Can affect spiritual, mental, emotional, social or physical problems.

2. Where demonization is occurring, healing will be hindered until the demonic presence is removed.

3. Expelling the demons may involve inner healing.

a. Weakens them b. Reduces chances of reinfestation (Mt. 12:43-45; l K. 11:24-26)

B. Level 1-2

1. Demons at this level harass their hosts, but are fairly weak with little overt control 2. They create discomfort in worship, Bible study, or prayer.

3. They affect the dream life, lower resistance to illness, and contribute to confusion. 4. They communicate through impressions and pictures in a person’s mind.

5. Common manifestations include coughing, yawning, sleepiness, pain, or mild choking.

C. Level 3-4

1. These demons can provoke overwhelming feelings of fear, anger, discomfort in worship, often with a desire to flee. - The Karate guy in LI, “I’ve got to get away from you man!”

! 15

Page 16: Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlbergvalleyvineyard.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Deliverance_Workshop... · Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlberg SESSION ONE ... Deliverance is the

Deliverance Workshop by Rip Wahlberg

2. People affected at this level may find themselves asking, “Whatever made me do that?”

3. Suicide thoughts and recurring physical ailments are not uncommon.

4. They communicate clearly into the mind or through the person’s voice (if they are allowed).

5. Manifestations such as shaking, altered respiration, confusion, physical pain are common. victims may feel “claws” or grabbing at the throat, neck, or back of the head.

D. Level 5-6

1. Demons at this level often provoke compulsive behavior. They may “slant” a person’s personality (fear, anger, hate).

2. They may produce allergies or nagging physical problems, strong thoughts of suicide, or other thoughts which the victim might otherwise recognize as demonic.

3. Manifestations include bodily distortions, pain, feats of strength, and use of the person’s voice unless a great effort is made to resist them.

E. Level 7-8

1. Unless prior occult history is present, this level is infrequent with Christians.

2. Lengthy periods of time when the demons are in executive control may occur. Persons at this level may seem to have two or more distinct personalities.

3. Manifestations may include glazed eyes, violence, or other uncharacteristic behaviors, many of which will not be remembered. Bodily gestures (sexual, animal) may occur along with frequent use of the vocal apparatus, even with multiple voices.

F. Level 9-10

1. Christians are rarely (if ever) affected at this level. All of the characteristics of levels 7-8 may be present, but to an even greater extent.

2. The demons may be in control much or most of the time.

II. Starting a Deliverance Ministry in Your Church A. Take time and build a base

1. You want to build this for the long haul 2. If your church is not yet moving in a deliverance ministry give it time to develop. Do

some deliverance, practice i. “There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about

the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. the other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. - C.S. Lewis Screwtape Letters

3. Get people around it as much as they are willing. 4. Make it accessible for them by teaching, training, and explaining when you see

deliverance happening and help them see the benefit of it. 5. Count the cost

a. It’s going to take time. Often multiple sessions at a couple hrs a time

B. Study it to learn from others 1. Read books on it, listen to others teachings. 2. You are going to make mistakes and miss it. Accept it and keep moving forward.

C. Have a broader training 1. Once you have an established small base if you want to expand it within the church

then have a broader training. 2. Some are afraid to open this ministry up because it can be misused. *Just like any

other ministry of the Spirit. It takes pastoring it and helping people mature.

D. Be willing to change your paradigm 1. If you press far enough into deliverance you will become more aware of the causes of

demonization 2. It may rattle your world for a while. “Where does this change end? Is anything safe?”

E. Most likely an inner healing ministry will develop too 1. They are not the same but in order to keep the ground you gain through deliverance

you will need to help people understand the why something got there in their lives.
