Summer is here & it seems there are more people staying in Florida

each year. The Club stays busy with the usual activities like Bocce, Card Games, Mahjong, some special events & of

course our Friday Night Pasta Dinners. Every day of the week brings members to the club for fun times, placing

orders, receiving deliveries, planning activities, baking bread, preparation for Friday, to name some of the behind the

scene activities that all lead up to the enjoyment of our members as well as producing successful Friday Nights for

the public! Our efforts must be appreciated when you see the diners return week after week & always leave with

smiles on their faces. Enjoy the next few months & prepare for a busy Fall season. Ciao, Bruce

REPORT ON FATHER’S DAY ...JUNE 17TH:

Approximately 100 people attended the Breakfast in

honor of all the Dad’s in our lives. Thank you Josephine

included Emma T, Dee & Tom M, Mafalda H, Joe C,

Ben P, Frank U, Joe D, Linda F, Lea S, Mary I, Lynn F,

Sandi C, Janet R, Carol T, Karl B & Dick C. The TIE

Theme was carried out in the table centerpieces and the

ties worn by the ladies were contributed by Lea Sherman

from Bob’s collection. He was with everyone in spirit!

It was a wonderful array of food choices & a scrumptious

assortment of desserts! All in all, it was a very successful

celebration for the husbands, fathers & males of the

IACV! Check out the photos on a separate page in this

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION DINNER …...

On Sun. June 24th, 73 members gathered at

“Rosebuds” restaurant for a delicious dinner (Choice

of Prime Rib/Pork Chops/ Salman) and nobody was

disappointed...always a good choice! Thank you

Donna Sherman for coordinating the workers, the

venue & the choices. It was particularly stressful

this time because of an unexpected event (Medical)

that took place only a few days before. We were all

surprised & pleased to see Ray at the dinner,

smiling & enjoying himself too! These dinners are

one of the benefits of volunteering your time in

order to support the many events of the Club as

well as being part of the Friday Night dinner crew!

**GRAZIE A TUTTI **

DID YOU KNOW?

Only 2.5 million people lived in the US when the Declaration

was signed by John Hancock & Charles Thompson 7/4/1776

July 4th wasn’t declared a National Holiday until 1870, almost

100 years after the declaration was first signed.

The Pennsylvania Evening Post was the first newspaper to

print the Declaration of Independence.

Roughly 150 million Hot Dogs will be consumed on July 4th!

By SANDI CHANCE

Take a look at another Italian author with many best selling novels in Italy and around the world. Among Niccolo’ Ammaniti’s finest are: I’ll Steal You Away This novel centers on Pietro Moroni, a skinny, introspective boy in a small village, who is taunted at school and ignored at home. When his favorite teacher, a spinster with problems of her own, lets him down, his anger—at the world, at his loutish parents and his hopeless brother—combusts. The story of the boy and his teacher intersects with that of a local playboy, a ne’er-do-well newly returned to the village, whose gargantuan narcissism cannot ward off a dawning realization of his life’s errors. Ammaniti beautifully evokes the lopsided streets of an Italian backwater and, especially in Pietro’s surprising friendship with the prettiest girl in the village, the shadow life of childhood. “Ammaniti beautifully evokes the lopsided streets of an Italian backwater and, especially in Pietro’s surprising friendship with the prettiest girl in the village, the shadow life of childhood.” — The New Yorker I’m Not Scared One relentlessly hot summer, six children explore the scorched wheat fields that enclose their tiny Italian village. When the gang find a dilapidated farmhouse, nine-year-old Michele Amitrano makes a discovery so momentous that he dare not tell a soul. It is a secret that will force Michele to question everything and everyone around him, and will bring his innocent world toppling down. An unputdownable thriller, I'm Not Scared has become a contemporary classic in Italian literature, read and celebrated the world over.
