WELCOME FROM THE CHAIR OFGOVERNORS
2013-14 was a good year for Evelyn Grace Academy.
We were delighted with our 2013 GCSE results which exceeded national targets, andwe are confident that our future results will be even better.
We have completed plans for our new sixth form and we are delighted to bewelcoming our first-ever Year 12 students in September 2014.
In March, we were rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted. Its report confirmed that EGA is a well-ledand governed school, which offers its students high quality teaching, and a secure andhighly supportive environment; and which, whatever their talents, needs or abilities, enables them to develop and progress. We now plan to do everything possible toensure that, when Ofsted next inspect us, EGA is recognised as ‘Outstanding’. Our students deserve nothing less.
EGA has superb resources - teachers, support staff, senior team and facilities - toprovide local students with an excellent education; with opportunities to broaden their horizons and enrich their lives; and with pathways to challenging and rewarding careers.
On behalf of the Governors, I want to say how proud we are of what EGA has achievedover the past year; how much confidence we have in EGA’s staff and senior team; andhow committed we are to supporting them in every way we can so that EGA canbecome even better in the years to come.
I hope you find the prospectus useful and I look forward to welcoming you and yourchildren to Evelyn Grace Academy.

THE CORE CURRICULUM: DEPTH BEFORE BREADTH
For the first three years, students follow a broad and challenging academic programme. We offer an increased timetable for English, Mathematics and Science that ensures studentsare able to achieve a wider breadth of success at Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11).
As students move into Key Stage 4, all follow individualised pathways that typically lead tobetween 8 and 10 GCSEs.
Our Sixth Form curriculum focuses primarily on the most academic A Levels that allowstudents to gain places at the best universities.
It is essential that all children leave school with a mastery of English and Mathematics. Our first priority is that we build a foundation in literacy and numeracy as this provides agateway to all other learning. Students should be able to read, write and work with numbersfluently and confidently. Our curriculum focuses heavily on building these foundations.
AssessmentWe assess students’ academic progress regularly and frequently. Accurate and thoroughassessment is essential to ensure that students are placed in the most suitable groups withappropriate challenge and support.
Formal assessments take placeeach half term and parents areinformed of their child’sprogress. Students, teachers andparents all know exactly whatsteps are needed to move eachchild to the next level of success.
Parents/carers are invited toattend our Academic ReviewDays when parents are informedabout their child’s academicprogress and where we agreetargets for future learning.
‘Teachers often use probing
questioning in lessons to check
