Internship Description Position #1 – This intern will examine COLFA undergraduates nearing completion of 45 hours of credit towards their degree. After training, this intern will pull the students’ files, evaluate and update the students degree requirement check list (DRC), send the updated DRC and a blank semester –to-semester plan (if not already filed) and have them submit the completed semester-to semester plan by email or personal delivery for review of accuracy by the intern. Once the plan has been checked and evaluated as accurate, the intern will enter a code on the SPACMNT screen of Banner, preventing the student(s) from receiving the 45 hour hold, once they acquire between 45-55 hours. The intern will send a follow-up email indicating the code has been placed on their record and the student should make an appointment with their major advisor for a preliminary degree audit just before earning 90 hours of credit.
Position #2 – This intern will examine COLFA undergraduates nearing completion of 90 hours of credit towards their degree. After training, this intern will pull these students’ files, evaluate and update the DRC, check if student has a semester-to-semester plan filed, if not, have them submit the completed semester-to semester plan by email or personal delivery for review of accuracy by the intern. Once the plan has been evaluated as correct, a preliminary degree audit will be performed on the student’s file by the intern, reviewed by the major advisor, and emailed to the student. Once these steps are completed, a code will be placed on the SPACMNT screen of Banner preventing the student(s) from receiving the 90 hour hold once they acquire between 90-115 hours. The intern will send a follow-up email indicating the code has been placed on their record and, as long as student’s plan has been followed to the tee, the student should apply for graduation the semester prior to their planned graduation. The intern will also note that if changes are made to their plan, the student should notify their major advisor immediately so they may evaluate their planned semester of graduation. Position #3 – This intern, after training, will examine all currently maintained students’ paper files and audit them for current enrollment, drop out, or stop out and prepare the outdated files to be placed in a digital storage location. This same intern will also examine all currently maintained student e-files based on the same criteria and place these files in a digital storage location within the main e-files location (I drive for COLFA). Position #4 – This intern, after training, will be given a list of COLFA undergraduates who have stopped out or dropped out since 2004, are within 24 hours of graduation and contact them to find out what we can do to help them come back and finish their degree. This intern will develop collaboration with our Graduation Initiative liaison to possibly provide financial or other types of support for these students to finish their degree.
Description of Ideal Candidate The ideal candidates need to be a self-starters, disciplined, and “finishers” of projects. They must enjoy working either one-on-one or over the phone with students regarding the concerns listed above. The candidates cannot be afraid to ask questions or make mistakes and be willing to do some of this work after-hours, if this is more convenient to their schedule (allowing they have the proper equipment to do so – computer, printer, internet access, etc.)

Graduate Intern Timeline
Intern Orientation/Training (Week 1)‐This week is dedicated to providing UTSA/department/job responsibilities orientation and necessary training for the Intern. Intern Work Experience (Week 2 to 15)‐This is the weekly work schedule that the Intern will complete as a part of their placement with Orientation and Family Programs. It will consist of accomplishing job responsibilities; on‐going training and professional development opportunities. Final Evaluation (Week 15)‐The final evaluation meeting is conducted this week between the Intern and the Internship Supervisor.
Graduate Intern Job Description
Objective 1: To gain an understanding of the role of orientation programs/services in higher education Learning Outcomes: ORIENTATION
Assist the Director, Associate and Assistant Directors of Orientation and Family Programs (OFP) with aspects of the planning and implementation of Orientation programs for the fall, spring and summer semesters
Assist with all aspects of Orientation Staff recruitment including but not limited to: marketing‐creating flyers, banners, staffing information tables, creating Paisano ads, and holding information sessions with various student groups; selection‐reading applications, conducting group and individual interviews and making final recommendations for selection
Assists in the coordination of the Orientation Leader Association Best Fest Booth
Assist in the development of the Orientation Leader Training Class course modules and supporting materials
Assist with the planning/implementation of the Orientation Advisory Board meetings
Other orientation duties as assigned Objective 2: To increase awareness of successful strategies students use to overcome barriers to academic and social success in college. Learning Outcomes: ROWDY’S CAMP
Assist with the overall planning and implementation of ROWDY’S CAMP
Assist with the recruitment, selection and training of all ROWDY’S CAMP LEADERS
Assist with the all ROWDY’S CAMP supporting materials/publications (Confirmation Letter, Camper’s Guide and Leader’s Guide)
Assist with the ROWDY’S CAMP Evaluation Process including the creation, distribution, collection and tabulation of the evaluation
Other ROWDY’S CAMP duties as assigned FAMILY WEEKEND
Assist with the overall planning and implementation of ROWDY’S CAMP
Assist with the all the Family Weekend supporting materials/publication
Assist with the Family Weekend Evaluation Process including the creation, distribution, collection and tabulation of the evaluation

Objective 3: To gain an understanding of the daily function of role of orientation programs/services in higher education Learning Outcomes: GENERAL
Help the Senior Administrative Associate and Administrative Associate answer the phones and assist with office walk‐in visitors
Assist with computer work, mailings, copying, office errands, and other administrative duties as assigned
As needed, assist the Directors with special projects i.e departmental marketing and outreach
Other Orientation and Family Programs’ duties as assigned REPORTS TO: The Director/Associate Director(s) of Orientation and Family Programs jointly WORK SCHEDULE: This is a one semester position from September 2011 to December 2011 with flexible hours between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., M – F with occasional work available on the weekends and after 5pm weekdays. The final work schedule is as follows: Mondays from 8am to 1pm and Tuesdays from 8am to 1pm.

Internship Description (including work hours)
The following internship program will be assigned to work with the UTSA Office of P-20 Initiatives, more specifically, working in the area of outreach initiatives. The intern position will be assigned to work closely with the Mobile Go Center Initiative, a ’42 foot mobile computing lab, used to help spread the college going message throughout South Central Texas. The candidate will work closely with P-20 program staff to coordinate visits of unit, assessment and evaluation of unit and other areas in helping to spread the college going message throughout Bexar County. Hours for this position will vary throughout the traditional work week of M-F, 8-5, however, may include several Saturday activities to ensure the internship program total of 150 hours is met.
Description of Ideal Candidate Ideal internship candidate should have program management and outreach experience. K-12 experience is also recommended but not required.

Strong written and communication skills are required along with basic technological skills to include Microsoft office.

Currently, there is not compensation available for this position. However, due to current funding restraints, any funding for travel will be discussed on a case by case basis if awarded internship position.

Career Center Graduate Intern Position Description Department: University Career Center Position Title: Graduate Intern – Educational Leadership Length of Contract: Fall and spring semester/10-19 hours per week/evenings and
weekends may be required Introduction: The University Career Center is a centralized office serving the entire university. Our services are focused upon assisting students and alumni with career exploration, experiential learning opportunities, professional development, and preparation for graduate school and the world of work. The staff of twenty-three serves students and alumni at both the Main Campus and the Downtown Campus. Mission The mission of the University Career Center is to assist students and alumni in identifying and developing the skills necessary to pursue lifelong career goals. Vision The UTSA University Career Center office will be the career center of choice for students and employers. Duties and Responsibilities:
Intern will learn and understand the function of the Career Center Director position and attend meetings with the Director to observe the interaction and relationships with other University departments and functions, community leaders and employers
Intern will have the opportunity to participate in how office level policy decisions and daily operation decisions are made based on staffing, budgetary resources and timeframes

Terms of Internship: 1. Enrollment – The Graduate Intern must possess a Bachelor’s degree and be
enrolled in a graduate degree program with the UTSA Educational Leadership and Policy Studies program during the period of participation.
2. Academics – The Graduate Intern must maintain good academic standing with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.
3. Time Commitment – 10-19 hours per week. It is expected that Graduate Intern complete the required 150 hours designated within their EDL internship course.
4. Remuneration – The Graduate Intern will receive a ____per hour. The position is for fall, spring and summer semesters.

The College of Sciences Advising intern will assist the supervisor in coordinating the Back on Track program. A program offered through our advising center, aimed at identifying students at UTSA who have been academically unsuccessful for the past two terms by running and sorting through reports provided by Institutional Research and BANNER. Along with the supervisor, the intern will contact and meet with these students at least two times per semester; help to track the student’s progress throughout the semester by making and tracking contacts in file notes and Excel spreadsheets, as well as work with the supervisor to see how effective the program is by measuring GPA changes, retention rate, etc. They may also work on developing a Blackboard class to communicate with the students in this program. The intern will complete, however necessary, the 150 hours of field experience as required in HSA 6943.
Description of Ideal Candidate The ideal College of Sciences Advising intern is someone who is able to effectively communicate, can use Excel, is able to work with a team and in an individual setting, and can think creatively about ways to help students who have had academic issues at UTSA. This person should be able to handle sensitive issues and have good empathy and listening skills.

The Culinary Institute of America (CIA)-San Antonio Campus seeks two hard working and enthusiastic interns to work in a very fast paced Admissions and Student Services Office. The offices are open M-F 8AM to 4PM. Ideal candidates would be available 2-3 days a week, 4-5 hours per day. Some weekends may be required. Intern Duties:
Greeting current and prospective students and directing them to the appropriate department
Giving campus tours to prospective students, food enthusiasts, and visitors to the college
Assisting with Admissions information sessions and preparing Admission packets
Helping with new student Orientation set up, including preparing materials, check in, and making sure enrollment paperwork is complete.
Managing inventory of books, uniforms, and supplies
