Status of Ebola Outbreak in the Democratic

Republic of the Congo (as of 6 January 2019)

• The outbreak is still evolving, 21 confirmed case in week 1, 2019 (cf:19

case in week 52, 2018)

• Cumulative cases 625 (577 confirmed cases and 48 probable) with 377

deaths (60%)

• A total of 55 health workers have been infected to date, including 18

deaths

• An average of 259 (97%) alerts are investigated per day and Over

35,000 contacts have been registered since the onset of the outbreak

• 56,509 vaccinated.

• Major Challenges: Continued community reluctance, mistrust and

insecurity in affected areas.

CURRENT EVD SURVEILLANCE IN UNITED REPUBLIC OF TANZANIA

Monitoring of cross-border movements and traveller's entry

screening using thermos-scanners and screening forms is on-

going:

• No EVD Case in URT

• No Report of EVD Suspected case in the week

• Ongoing Screening at the POEs.

• 10 Regions, 18 Districts, 23 POEs (Airports, Ports and Land

borders)

• 380 travelers Screened from DRC

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE PAST WEEKS

Pillars Implementation Status

Coordination Coordination, RRT and IMS training in Mbeya completed with 35 participants from 2 regions Mbeya and Katavi.

SurveillanceRRT/POE

EVD screening at PoE ongoing

380 travelers screened from DRC in. No alerts reported this week.

Case MgmtIPC/SDB

1 ETC in Tanzania mainland (Temeke) is completed but not fully equipped. Zanzibar has identified ETU area but not

equipped. Planned capacity building of health care workers in Pemba. Finalization of the IPC manual completed.

RCCE

EVD /RCCE Training of 66 health workers and community members and Ebola Charity Walk on 11 JAN Katavi.

Ebola Walk and Field Visit to Lake Tangayika (Karema and Ikola Fishiing communities). Identification of high risk

communities for RCCE interventions in the Katavi region.

RCCE presentation in Mbeya. Draft RCCE plan for Zanzibar developed.

LaboratoryCapacity Building of Laboratory staff in Rukwa, Katavi, Songwe and Mbeya Regions Mainland Tanzania completed.

Logistics 3,500 PPEs procured and prepositioned in high risk districts.

Vaccination MOH interested in vaccination of HW and a technical working group set up to commence work with WHO on the process.

SITUATION UPDATES FOR CHOLERA

In the week 2 ending 13 January 2019, all regions reported zero cases

and deaths.

The last case was reported on 5 January from Uvinza DC in Kigoma and

cumulative of 33,306 cases including 550 deaths (CFR 1.7%)

Over a period of four weeks, 31 cases including zero deaths have been

reported from two regions, Kigoma (19 cases) and Songwe Region 12

cases

CHOLERA UPDATES AND ACHIEVEMENT

WHO continue to monitor surveillance data and trends

WHO continue to advocate for early reporting and proper

documentation of cases

Continue provide support to districts which are reporting cases

through regular conference calls

Work with other partners to finalize country cholera elimination plan
