How did you address your audience?Within our movie opening we address our target audience directly by using / filming scenes which are where the characters are looking directly into the camera. One of these scenes is where the demon is reciting the riddle for Rosalie so she can find where her parents are being held captive. Filming the scene so the demon is facing the camera makes the audience feel uncomfortable as he is talking directly to them. This makes them feel as if he is telling them where to find their parents portraying that their family has gone missing as well. This gets the audience involved with the movie and bring them closer into it making them get hooked and intrigued as to what is going to come up next. The audience is also addressed when Rosalie is in the room and the door mysteriously slam shut. This is because it makes them feel as if they are stood next to her and that they are going to follow her throughout the movie as they are now aware of the paranormal occurrences they are dealing with. It makes them feel as if they will experience them as well which again bring them closer into the movie and it makes it personal for the audience. I feel this will attract my target audience to watch my horror movie opening as people watch

horror movies for the thrill and wave of emotion that hits them when they watch them.

How the mise-en-scene is appealing to the audience.I feel that our movie opening is attractive and appealing to my target audience through the use of mise - en - scene. The most appealing factor of mise - en - scene is the use of costumes. I feel that our costumes attracted the audience because they were simple about effective and held a lot of connotations within them. The child’s soul’s costume is rather appealing because it is a white childish dress with dark coloured boots. This costumes connotes that she is rather innocent as white connotes innocence and purity which is what she is. I feel that this would appeal to the audience as they would want to know why she died and is haunting the building as well as know how she died. It is also rather creepy how a you8ng child was killed yet still haunts the building in with the death occurred in. This connotes that she may have been murdered in the house which would intrigue the audience. This links to her white costume ass she died for no reason and she was innocent, linking to the colour of her dress. This costume leaves the audience with a variety of questions about the young child’s soul. The costume of the demon is extremely simple as it is just a black cloak which covers the actors face but leaves his mouth in view to see what he is saying clearly. Black connotes evil and this shows the audience that he is dangerous and is going to harm the main character. Furthermore, when the demon is facing the camera and talking it makes the audience feel targeted by him as he is directing it to them but it would also make them feel uncomfortable as you can’t see his face so you cannot see his reactions resulting in fear and a tense atmosphere which would/will appeal to my target audience. His face being covered by the black cloak includes a bit of mystery as to why he wants to harm the main character and what his motives are, meaning that the costume once again leave the audience with further questions. The costume of Rosalie (main character) is normal everyday clothes. This connotes that what happens to her could happen to anyone vene member of the audience which is unsettling. The fact that Rosalie‘s costume is so normal is a contrast to what she is doing as she is going into a haunted building where all the other characters costumes are simplistic and abnormal to the era. This makes the audience wonder why she is entering the house and how diverse she is to everything else within i. This appeals to the audience as they want to know her purpose for going there and what will/might happen to her as she ventures further into the film. We didn’t use many props within our movie opening as we felt they would be too overpowering, however we did use some missing posters which we feel are appealing to the audience. This is because it would make them wonder why they were taken, how they were taken and why they would disappear. The use of mise - en - scene has created a lot of questions for the audience which can only be answered if the whole movie was made which intrigues our target audience into the movie more as they want answers to their questions. They want to know what happened to the missing people and to Rosalie. This is how the mise - en - scene is appealing to the target audience.

What my audience feedback reveals. My audience feedback reveals that my choice of mise - en - scene, camerawork. editing and sound has had a positive effect. My feedback reveals that my choice of using a child’s soul adds a creepy and scary effect to the horror movie and the fact that she is wearing which is rather daunting as it has no blood on it leaving the question of how she died. It also revealed that use of mid closeups were rather intimidating as it felt as if the demon was talking straight at the audience which was what I wanted them to feel. One member added that the sue of the music sounding like a nursery rhythm made the movie opening as a whole have a very tense and unsettling vibe to it. Overall my audience feedback came out positive and said that I managed to produce and create a movie opening which used and portrayed the conventions of a horror movie very well. I feel that my decision to use three characters which are all very diverse to each other worked well as they all had different back stories which kept the audience engaged as they were all so different. For Example, the demon is intimidating and demanding, the child’s soul is innocent yet deceiving and Rosalie is naive and vulnerable to what is happening around her. All of these characters contrast each other well and I feel that the variety of them keeps the audience engaged. In addition to this, I also feel that the idea of converting the whole opening into a black and white effect was a wise and rewarding idea. This is because it adds a bit of age to the movie and challenges the conventions of a horror movie. This is because most horror movies these days like ‘Insidious’ and ‘The Conjuring’ are shown in colour which is very different from my movie opening. I feel this decision was a positive one because pteenagers dont tend to watch older horror movies so this brings them back in time and is different to them so keeps them engaged as they would like to see what the whole opening looks like in black and white. I perceive that it shocked them a little bit but it was very effective and it took away some of the graininess which was in some of the shots which has made the picture clearer and easier to see. Overall, I think that all the decision I made were effective and were the reasons that my audience feedback came back positive when I viewed it to them for the first time ever.
