Evaluation Question 4How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning

and evaluation stages?

During our planning and research, we used many different methods…

- In order to gain insight on our artists specified genre, we had to go on YouTube and find related music videos to our artists genre.

- Google was also another search engine in which I could find related artists and incorporate their ideas in to our music video, digipaks and webpage.

- Google images had helped us gather and collate ideas of several designs and what the conventions are of the music video, digipaks and webpage.

- We all had phones in order to in contact with each other, we made a group chat consisting of us all and allowing us to decide on where to film and what times, the phones also let us use the internet when we hadn’t the access to one.

- Many pictures of production and location were also taken by our phones and these could’ve been used in case the battery on the camera had run out.

- We had used Tumblr and Weebly in order to put together the planning and research together, this way it was also organised.

- These were good ways of keeping track of our progress while working, from beginning to end.- Using these blogging sites we could embed pictures and videos to show visual examples to illustrate

our inspiration and our production so far.- Our planning documents were also embedded, such as the storyboard and the block plan.- Images were embedded on to the blogs of the location of filming and other images from Google

which had inspired us in a way.- We had used these blogging websites as a diary, constantly updating it with ideas and progress, after

filming and editing days.

- We used two camera’s, a Flip HD camera and a high quality smart phone camera.- This was so we can film from two angles at the same time, this supplied us with a variety of camera

angles and shots.- It also meant we had to create our own tripod using what was available during the time, we found a

stand which mainly holds books containing notes for music instruments e.g. Violin.- It allowed us to have steady shots which made our work look more professional and also made the

editing much quicker as we didn’t have to stabilize the video before editing it.- - During the final edit of our video we used both the school Cannon camera and a Flip HD camera to

film as well as we wanted to cover as many shots in as short of a time as possible in order to spend our time efficiently.

- Once again we had to be innovative and make the most use of our surroundings, we had a major issue with the stability of shots whist the camera was moving left to right.

- We placed the camera and smart phone on the chair and slowly moved it from left to right in order to get a smooth transition and improve the quality of our video.

- A tripod was also used during the production of the music video in order to allow the camera to focus whilst close ups were taken of our artists and improve the quality of the clips which made the editing process much easier and allowed us to create a better quality music video.

- In order to edit our video, we used Adobe Effects CS6 (64-Bit), this is a timeline-based video editing software application, there are also many video and audio effects which can be applied.

- As this was Adobe, we were able to integrate Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64-Bit) designs in to the timeline as an image.

- In order to finalize the editing, it was all arranged on to a timeline on another video editing software application, Sony Vegas Pro 12 (64-Bit).

- Adobe After Effects is a digital motion graphics and compositing software published by Adobe Systems, used in the post-producing process of filmmaking and television producing.

- Its main uses are the visual effects compositing and finishing (colour correction).- We had used colour correction within our music video in order to make it look more

professional.- Visual effects were applied within Adobe After Effects CS6 before finalizing it all on to

Sony Vegas Pro 12.

- Sony Vegas Pro 12 is more simpler than Adobe After Effects, the music video was then arranged in here after being applied with all the effects and the final copy was also rendered here.

- Any final adjustments with synching or so were also fixed here in order to make the music video look as professional as possible.

- Adobe Photoshop was mainly used within our Digipaks, this was in order to create effects and make the images look very professional as you can see in the images below.

- Hue/Saturation, Vignette and Curves were modified in order to give the professional look.

- Brush pre-sets were used in order to create particles flowing through the clouds.- Layers were modified in terms of opacity as well so everything can flow easily and

look exactly how we had wanted it to.

Before.. After..

- Firstly, without digital technology it would be hard for our group to communicate with one another, actually get to arrange filming times with the artist and have everything organised, this would make it difficult for us all when we can just use mobile phones and the internet to contact each other.

- Without digital technology our planning and research would’ve had a great affect on our digipak, website and final video. This is because we may not have been able to access search engines such as Google and other useful websites such as YouTube, they tend to have similar work in terms of genre and we may not have achieved the correct conventions and may not have been sure whether we were reinforcing or challenging these.

- Storing all the video and images would be difficult and our research and planning wouldn’t be able to be embedded on to our blogs.
