Transcript of Evaluation: question 4
4) How did you use new media
technologies in the construction and
research, planning and evaluation
stages?
Throughout the construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages of my teaser trailer and its ancillary
texts; film poster and magazine cover, I made use of new media technologies
which were beneficial.
After handwriting drafts of relevant information that were needed to be transferred onto my blog, I firstly typed them onto Microsoft Word; a word
processing program that is fast and easy to use. My work once
typed up onto the software notified me for spelling or
grammar errors. The program was useful as a text editor,
spellchecking. Once completed, I was able to save the
document onto a USB which ensured the work was saved,
resulting me into not having to make multiple copies.

Blogger.com is a blog publishing service that
I have consistently used throughout the entire process of the
research, planning and the development
stages. This site was a useful way in which I could present relative pieces of writing and
embed videos and images. Whenever I felt
it was necessary to update my blog, I
would post the information in a fast
and easy way at accessible use.

In order to help me in making final
decisions concerning my
work, I used various sites on the internet
for help…
Google, a search engine created in 1998 was a useful site in which I
used when researching necessary information in
relation to my work. I searched for information on the topic of villains; a specific example being
the antagonist Jigsaw, in ‘the movie ‘Saw’. Further
researched topics include information on
Icon film Distribution as I decided to choose this
distributor to be used in my teaser trailer and find more on how this
distributor related to my independent horror film
genre.
Google Web
Google ImagesAs well as using Google Web for the purpose for
re-search, I also used Google Images for image content, some being ‘The Grudge 2’ film poster and
‘Sight and Sound’ magazine cover. From this, I was then able to analyse this specific images when uploaded onto my blog by
adding a new post and copying the URL address
of the image where indicated. All images
allowed me see how they were relevant to my own
teaser trailer and ancillary texts in which I used for
inspiration and comparative reasons.
When finding inspirations for my
choice in music in my teaser trailer, I listened
to a wide range of soundtracks on
YouTube; a popular video-sharing website for inspiration as to what type would be
suited in my finished teaser. After listening to many types relating
to the different sub-genres in horror, I
found a collaboration of both music and sounds suited perfectly to the shots displayed in my
teaser trailer.

During the construction stages,
I used a diverse amount of new
media technologies…
- In order to record the main product, I used a
digital video camera which allowed me to film the
action in good quality. If the action was not suitable for uploading, I was able to
erase that particular clip and replace it accordingly.
The video camera as a whole was easy to use in
getting the necessary clips for using in my final teaser
trailer. -Not only was the digital camera useful using in the process of filming, but also
for taking shots of the characters; some of which I used in my ancillary texts
and for the purpose of uploading onto my blog.

After taking images needed for my ancillary texts, I attended a day at the Camden learning centre in
order to learn how to use Adobe Photoshop confidently, and began with a basis image given to
me to experiment with on the program. Adobe Photoshop is a graphics editing program in which I used to edit my ancillary texts and create them to
appear accordingly for use in the marketing process. After opening the selected images onto a
blank layer, I was able to adjust the way they looked to fit into the genre of horror; resizing the image, adjusting levels in the photo and adding text in which I alternated. This program allowed me to make changes to my work in order to get it to a
professional standard.

After experimenting and using a variety of
different new media
technologies, I feel I am more familiar with the different
software's and that my technology
skills have improved.
