British Street YouthThe British street youth are a particular social group targeted by our magazine. British street youth comprise mainly of young males, interested in hip-hop culture of modern day and from the past as well as the combining of skate culture. The genre our magazine is revolved around the hip hop culture which is why it appeals to this particular social group. The fashion of the genre is represented in the photo shoots; these costumes consist of brands like Palace and Supreme which are exceptionally desirable by people all around the world.

Our models wore these brands, such as Palace in the photo shoot to ensure that the genre is well represented.

Based on these connotations, our magazine targets fashionable and skate-like teenagers. Skateboarding is done on the street, and hip-hop originated on the street too. From this, it is clear that our magazine is going to target the social group of young, fashionable people who potentially skateboard and spend time socializing on the streets.

In addition, the use of vulgar language and slang in our double page spread further suggests that our magazine represents the youthful social group as stated in the previous slide. For example, ‘I rock my fits’ is a quote extracted from our double page spread, and it consists of youthful terminology which is used when teenagers reference their clothing.

The habit of foul language is associated with quite childish and rude behaviour, and hip-hop artists consistently swear in their lyrics and in general language. This often leads to their fans adopting similar personalities to their favourite artists (to a certain extent), hence why the incorporation of vulgar language represents a particular social group, because they comprehend it themselves.

Also within our double page spread, there are various brands like Adidas and North Face. Commonly within the street youth, you will see them wearing these brands because it is their type of style. By including an artist with similar interests, it suggests that our magazine targets this particular social group.

Seeing as our magazine constitutes of targeting the street youth, the inclusion of various social media logos on the front cover is key. I personally, as a youth, use social media consistently throughout the day, whether it is watching videos, checking notifications or listening to music etc. Thus, these logos attract the young teenage social group because they have grown up with its development, as well as the concept that social media is heavily dominated by youngsters. Additionally, it shows that our magazines content is accessible on multiple platforms, not just on a magazine. This is a diverse way of representing a social group, however it is intelligent because it is what they are interested in, so hopefully it would be effective.
