Evaluation 5How did we attract our audience?

Whilst making our film opening, I had to think about certain factors as to how it would become successful. Music was one of our main factors as we needed an upbeat song with a drop to emphasise the opening scenes and their meanings.

We used a young white male for the role of our protagonist as he reaches out to a wide audience without racial stereotype and the audience can relate to him as he is a young man, in a similar age group to the target audience. This also creates more of a realistic feel to the film opening because if they can put themselves in the actors shoes, the film becomes more realistic, especially due to the fact that he acts as an average person and does his best to fit in.

Similarities With Other Film Openings

Our film opening is similar to other movies such as the Alex Rider Series or the James Bond series. We used similar techniques in shooting the opening of the film but with our own twists on everything. Here we have our fight scene which is shot in a CCTV style camera compared with the James Bond fight scene which is very similar. Both have a filter used on the scene making it seem more realistic as if it was shot using a nearby camera as a coincidence. The James Bond film used a close up for the fight scene, making it harder to understand what is happening and causing the scene to become a bit more thrilling as you cannot predict what the outcome will be. Our film opening juxtaposes that idea as we make the fight very clear to demonstrate the skills of our protagonist and add in the background props which add to the realistic feel of the scene.

Unique Point Of FilmOur unique selling point of the film would be the plot. We are able to see the capabilities of the protagonist throughout the opening scenes but we are not aware of the plot. Three characters are partially introduced to us but we are not told anything about them and are forced to work it out from their actions. As the protagonist enters the warehouse after driving there in a mysterious black car, he carefully approaches a worker who seems to be doing something illegal. This clearly gives us the impression that he is infiltrating an enemy base in the attempt to get something or do something. We then find out about his fighting skills and his ruthlessness. As he approaches the final man, who’s face we cannot see. We are told a lot through his facial expression. This hints that he has or had a relationship with this mysterious character and reveals a lot of hints but nothing major. This draws in the audience’s attention and encourages them to think about what may happen later in the movie.
