Evaluation Q4 and 5Who would be the audience for your media product?

How did you attract and address your target audience?

Looking at my magazine, we can learn about the audience it is aimed at. The front cover uses cover lines and banners to directly appeal to fans of the bands mentioned, making them want to buy the magazine to read about their favourite bands.

The main colours used throughout the magazine are dark red and black; unlike pop music magazines which use bright colours to attract an audience of young girls, my magazine will appeal to older teens of either gender.

The magazine has links to its online pages, meaning it is easily accessible, therefore it is not restricted to certain people.

Download magazine is mainly aimed at certain fan bases; the social group of young people who like punk rock music, which is reflected in the style of the magazine.

The target audience for my magazine is teens aged 15+ of either gender, who have access to newsagents and online websites. The genre of punk rock music is made up of fan bases and dedicated teens who generally look out for any mention of their favourite band, so would be interested in buying a music magazine which features these bands.

I use social networking sites such as Twitter and Tumblr which are focused on the community of people that surrounds these bands and fan bases, therefore I know exactly how to appeal to this audience.

I used features to attract the audience to buy the magazine such as offering free posters, and mentioning all the bands included inside the issue.

I used the images of the band to appeal to the audience. In all of the shots they are looking directly at the camera, smiling or laughing, to address the audience. They are wearing punk rock style clothes and posing in a bright, open area which is appealing and will draw the audience in. On the front cover I used interesting fonts and cover lines to attract readers to want to look at the rest of the magazine. Inside, I used the same font throughout the pages to stick to the house style and link them all together. I also used the same colour scheme of dark red, black and white throughout as I felt it worked well with the punk rock genre.

The contents page featured an advert for a subscription to the magazine, with a discount. It also included the link to the website, which should make readers want to look at it. Inside, I used informal and friendly language to relate to the readers and make them want to read more. In the editorial profile I used informative but friendly language, such as “Hello, and welcome” and “Enjoy” . Whilst talking about the articles I used opinionated and recommending words like “we think they’ll be huge” and “Bands we think will soon be making it big”

By using this kind of language, I addressed the audience on a level they feel comfortable with. If they feel there is a friendly tone to the magazine, they will want to read more and buy future issues.
