EuroPub League 2013 – Tipperary
Meeting in Thurles on 21st of December 2012
On Friday the 21st of December 2012, Declan travelled to Thurles and met with
Adrian and Eamon amongst others. Declan visited the tournament site where we had a
very positive meeting about this years coming tournament.
The following matters were discussed:
Transport:
Considering the location of the event in Tipperary, it would be easiest for those
travelling for just the tournament itself to consider travelling to either Shannon or
Cork airports as they are closer to Thurles than Dublin airport.
Dublin airport is approx. 2 hours from Thurles whilst Shannon or Cork is approx. 1
hour.
Here are the websites for each airport:
www.corkairport.com
www.dublinairport.com
www.shannonairport.com
For those who are considering hiring a coach to travel to Thurles we would
recommend visiting the following website for a reliable and reasonably priced service.
www.jjkavanagh.ie
Transport to and from the tournament site and party venues will be provided for and
included in the costing for the tournament.
Accommodation:
As previously stated, we have negotiated a very good rate in a local hotel called The
Anner Hotel. The rate is €35 per person per night sharing. This includes a full Irish
breakfast each morning and the use of the hotels leisure facilities.
I would suggest that people try to book this accommodation as soon as possible to
ensure that all teams are situated in the one hotel. In the event that all teams can’t be
facilitated here, this hotel has a sister hotel in Thurles also and they will be offering
the same rate. Declan has visited the Anner Hotel and was very impressed with the
rates being offered.
Here are the websites for the hotels:

PLEASE STATE THAT YOU ARE ATTENDING THE EUROPUB LEAGUE
WHEN MAKING YOUR RESERVATION TO AVAIL OF THE SPECIAL PRICE
Party Venues:
Two party venues have been booked for the opening ceremony on the Friday evening
and the presentation ceremony on the Saturday night. Declan visited both venues and
met with the owners who are looking forward to hosting the events.
Special discounts or beer vouchers will be handed out in keeping with previous years.
Negotiations are ongoing with host party venues as to exactly what
vouchers/discounts will be made available.
Tournament:
The tournament itself will be played on two grass pitches. In the unlikely event that
the pitches are unavailable due to poor weather conditions, an alternative venue will
be sourced, but will mean playing on an artificial surface. So everyone should pack
both football boots and astro runners.
As it stands, we have 8 teams confirmed to take part in the tournament with the
possibility of 2 more. The amount of teams will dictate the format the tournament
takes and will be decided upon close to the event itself.
Declan indicated that there is the possibility of a ladies team travelling to the event.
We can provide a ladies team to play them as part of the tournament also.
We can also provide additional players in the event that any team is short on numbers.
The tournament will be refereed by referees accredited with The Football Association
of Ireland. There will be a minimum of 3 referees present. This will also allow for
linesmen during the tournament final.
Hot food (burgers, hot dogs etc) and refreshments including beer will be available on
the day at the tournament site.
Like Mannheim, music will be present throughout the tournament and each team’s
national anthem will be played.
Photographer:
A professional photographer has been sourced for the weekend. It is also hoped that
as like Mannheim, a video of the tournament will be available to play at the
presentation ceremony.
T-Shirts:
T-shirts can be made available for those teams who wish to order them. They will be
high quality garments from Irish sportswear company O’Neill’s. Please visit their
website for at www.oneills.com. The cost can be included in tournament cost for each
team who wish to purchase them.
We are fully aware of the cost for travelling to Ireland for the EuroPub League and we
will ensure that all costs are kept to a minimum throughout.
We will be touch again in the coming weeks to confirm further details of teams who
have booked flights and accommodation. If any team has already booked, it would be
helpful if they informed us.
I hope the above is helpful and if anyone has any questions or needs any help please
