ETHANOX® Fuel AntioxidantsPOWERFUL PRODUCTS TO ENHANCE PERFORMANCE AND STABILITY
SI Group’s portfolio of ETHANOX® fuel antioxidants maximizes the storage life of many fuels and protects fuel systems by increasing resistance to oxidation and helping to control insoluble gum formation. By using ETHANOX fuel antioxidants, petroleum and biofuel refiners and marketers can meet stringent government regulations and OEM standards—including those requiring reduced emissions—as well as ASTM, civilian, and military specifications for aviation fuels. And, to support the expanding use of biodiesel fuels worldwide, SI Group offers an array of biodiesel antioxidants that stabilize fuels and prevent deposit formation in diesel engines.
Our broad ETHANOX antioxidant portfolio includes products tailored for countless applications, both civilian and military. We make antioxidants for virtually every petroleum-based fuel in use today, from aviation gasoline and turbine fuels to diesel oils and generator fuels. Dependable ETHANOX products are also available in synergistic blends and dilutions to suit essentially every need, whether you’re a refiner or a formulator.
Antioxidant Blends
SI Group provides ETHANOX fuel antioxidants in a variety of blends and dilutions. We offer blends of phenolic and aminic antioxidants as well as blends of multiple antioxidants with metal deactivators. ETHANOX 4737R fuel antioxidant is a dilution of ETHANOX 4701 (a high purity 2,6-di-tert-butylphenol) in a high flash aromatic solvent and provides all benefits of the full-strength product, but may be used where low-temperature handling is required. The combination of phenolic and aminic antioxidants, such as in ETHANOX 4740R, offers improved stabilization synergies (see Figure 1).
Figure 1. ETHANOX 4740R’s performance approximates that of PDA, with a lower comparative cost. ETHANOX 4733 is perfect for some applications, with a much lower cost profile.

Pyrolysis Gasoline Stabilization
Pyrolysis gasoline (Pygas) is a complex mixture of highly unsaturated hydrocarbons (C5s to C12s) resulting from the high-temperature cracking of various hydrocarbon feedstocks in olefin plants. Pygas is important to the production of BTX (benzene, toluene, xylene), a process usually yielding a fuel stream that can be sent to the gasoline pool. However, both the pygas and the gasoline stream are very unstable due to the high concentration of aromatics and olefins. ETHANOX 4740R is particularly effective stabilizer for this type of gasoline stream.
Fuel Stabilization
SI Group’s ETHANOX antioxidants ensure optimal stability for a wide range of fuels. Our portfolio includes:• ETHANOX 4701 is the primary antioxidant
recommended for jet fuels as well as gasoline blend components and finished gasoline to meet ASTM, civilian, and military specifications.
• ETHANOX 4737R fuel antioxidant is a TTBP-free dilution of ETHANOX 4701 fuel antioxidant in a high flash aromatic solvent. It contains less than 1% of Naphthalene, making it a safer choice for workers and the environment. The product is specifically designed for use where low-temperature handling is required.
• ETHANOX 4733 controls the formation of gum and peroxides without contributing to fuel system deposits. It meets leading MIL specifications for aviation fuels and is available as a neat liquid.
• TBX fuel antioxidant helps manage free-radical reactions in gasoline and jet fuels to meet fuel stability and quality specifications.
• ETHANOX 4740R, an economical phenolic/aminic antioxidant blend, inhibits gum formation and lowers the mercaptan content in gasoline blending streams, fully blended gasoline, and biodiesel.
• ETHANOX 4760R, a phenolic/aminic/metal deactivator antioxidant blend, extends Rancimat values in a broad range of biodiesel, including metal-contaminated biodiesel and biodiesel produced from multiple feedstocks.
