1. Bibliotheca Carolina – relevance and scope:
The project involves masterworks from the main abbeys and bishop schools of the Carolingian Empire (8th-9th centuries), including Reichenau, Saint-Denis, Corbie, Reims, Saint-Amand, Freising, Wissembourg.
The manuscripts show the intellectual and artistic activity of these centres of religious life, ecclesiastical and imperial power, and their numerous exchanges of texts and patterns.
The corpus of manuscripts is thus limited by time (approx. 780-900) and space.

As the BnF and / or other partner are going to digitise an extra portion as well the sum total is very likely to exceed 1.000 mss.

… and maybe also by the British Library …
Finally resulting in more than 1.200 mss. to be presented via www.europeanaregia.eu !
