W e cannot be-lieve another
year is officially behind us!
We are truly proud of everything you have ac-complished and how in-volved each and every one of you were this past year. Your strong GPAs, workshop and community service involvement and very active EOF alliance membership, to name a few. If the academic year wasn’t as strong as you would have hoped for, look at what you could have done differently and find the lesson for the next year to start anew. It’s time to close the chapter on this year and move ahead. If you are taking time off, relax and disconnect for a while. Enjoy your time with friends and family and give the mind a little rest.
If you are taking classes this summer, keep up the momentum and continue to stay in contact with us and use all of our re-sources to help you through your courses.
To all our graduating sen-iors, CONGRATULA-TIONS! YOU MADE IT!
As you transfer to your new college this Fall, re-member all the tools, strategies and exercises you learned in EOF. Put them to good use; we know you will continue to do great things and ex-cel wherever you go. Learn your way around your new college, find out where you can re-ceive tutoring, academic support and connect with your professors from the start; it will make your
experience that much more rewarding. We can-not emphasize enough how proud we are of you and we truly wish you much success. Stay in touch with us and let us know how things are go-ing; we are always here for you if you need us at any time.
Hope you all have a won-derful summer, and thank you for your contribu-tions to our program. It is a pleasure to work with all of you. If you need us this summer, we will be here all summer long. Starting June 13th the college will run on a Summer schedule – Tues-days, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm and Mondays & Thursdays from 8:30 am – 6:30 pm.
Sincerely,
Your EOF Staff

WHAT IS A CHINESE AUWHAT IS A CHINESE AUCTION (TRICKY TRAY)?CTION (TRICKY TRAY)? Excerpt from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Excerpt from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
first, second, third, etc. prize.
In a Chinese auction, bidders are
not prospective buyers (as in the
conventional English auction). In-
stead, they buy tickets, which are
chances to win items. Bidders may
buy as many tickets as they like,
and bid them on any item(s) they
want by placing them in a basket or
other container in front of the
item(s) they are trying to win. At
the conclusion of bidding, the win-
ning ticket is drawn from the tickets
bid on each item, and the item is
given to the owner of that ticket.
A bidder may increase the chance
of winning by buying and bidding
more tickets on a specific item. Alt-
hough there is generally no limit to
the number of tickets a given indi-
A Chinese auction is a type of
raffle (actually a combination
of raffle and auction)
that is typically fea-
tured at charity,
church festival and
numerous other
events. Other groups
have named it penny
social, tricky tray or
pick-a-prize to avoid any possible
racial overtones.
The difference between a raffle and
a Chinese auction is that in a raffle
with multiple prizes, there is one
"hat" from which names are drawn,
but in a Chinese auction each prize
has its own "hat". This allows ticket
buyers to choose which prize to
focus on, as opposed to having a
vidual may bid on a specific item,
the chance of winning depends on
the total number .of tickets bid by
all individuals.
It is unclear whether this type of
auction actually originates in China;
it is much more likely that the term
derives from "chance auction,"
which is also another name for this
type of auction. The term "Chinese"
may have been used in this case to
convey that this type of auction was
mysterious, intriguing, or secretive.
This type of Chinese auction is sim-
ilar to the "silent auction," with the
difference being that in the silent
auction bidders submit bids listing
specific amounts that they are will-
ing to pay for a specific item.
EACH OF US MUST CLIMB OUR SEPARATE MOUNTAIN
Each of us must climb our separate mountain To reach at last our own extended view. We can be no more than what we are, Yet that is quite enough for us to do.
The world is far too great for comprehension, And so we only know what we can know.
But given the abilities we're given, That's still a long and weary way to go.
Yet on the way, how beautiful the moments! How good it feels to have some skill or art!
How wonderful to pause in awestruck wonder At what must fill the unsuspecting heart!
And so we're proud of each of you today For all you've learned, and all you've tried to learn.
Knowledge brings the deepest satisfaction, Not least because it's something that you earn.

to have such committed students,
who were freezing in the wind and

The final EOF Student
Alliance project, the
Tricky Tray fundraiser,
requiring the most time
and energy, was again
very successful this year. Students
helped by donating new items,
wrapping baskets and selling tickets
from 10-3 and later from 5-6 pm,
April 25, the same day as our
Awards Dinner. We had one
community volunteer to assist us as
well, Marcy Thompson, who also

this year funded the
