Project Description Located just north of Yellowknife, NT is a seasonal ice road, approximately 600 kilometers long, that services three of Canada’s northern diamond mines. The road is a corridor for hauling fuel and supplies to the mines and other exploration sites. Contractors construct and maintain the road, operating out of three 49-person construction camps located along the ice road. The road crosses more than 64 remote lakes and portages (overland sections) and transitions through environments from taiga and boreal forest to tundra. Objective NOR-EX Engineering was contracted to execute a progressive remediation program along the ice road corridor, including environmental monitoring at the maintenance camps and at previous portage spill sites. Solution Provided NOR-EX Engineering provided the following services as part of a comprehensive environmental management program: Spring reconnaissance survey to assess erosion, sedimentation and subsidence along the portages Summer environmental monitoring program that included water and soil sampling Engineering, design, and construction monitoring of a land farm for the bio-remediation of soils Development of active remediation trials and progressive remediation plans Preparation of safety and environmental monitoring plans including: o Spill response/emergency contingency/waste management plans o Quarry permit applications and management plans o Land use permit applications and management plans Outcome NOR-EX Engineering assisted their client to achieve a high level of environmental stewardship by maintaining environmental compliance and actively seeking and addressing remedial solutions to environmental issues. Objective NOR-EX Engineering was contracted to execute a progressive remediation program along the ice road corridor, including environmental monitoring at the maintenance camps and at previous portage spill sites. Solution Provided NOR-EX Engineering provided the following services as part of a comprehensive environmental management program:

• Spring reconnaissance survey to assess erosion, sedimentation and subsidence along the portages • Summer environmental monitoring program that included water and soil sampling • Engineering, design, and construction monitoring of a land farm for the bio-remediation of soils • Development of active remediation trials and progressive remediation plans • Preparation of safety and environmental monitoring plans including:

o Spill response/emergency contingency/waste management plans o Quarry permit applications and management plans o Land use permit applications and management plans

Outcome NOR-EX Engineering assisted their client to achieve a high level of environmental stewardship by maintaining environmental compliance and actively seeking and addressing remedial solutions to environmental issues.
