Three Cliffs

Welcome to the 2014 Environmental EventsSwansea booklet which provides details of over250 events taking place in and around Swanseafrom April to September.

These include guided walks and cycle rides, a wide rangeof talks, workshops and training courses about wildlife andenvironmental issues, and lots of children’s activities in amazingnatural settings. Most of the events are FREE or at low cost soeveryone can get involved.

There are several festivals to enjoy this year too: in May, it’sthe Big Welsh Walk Weekend; in June there’s Wales BiodiversityWeek, Bike Week and the Gower Walking Festival; in August,it’s the Gower Cycling Festival; and in September, the new LoveYour Countryside Festival and the annual Swansea Open House.

This booklet is produced by the City and County of Swansea’sNature Conservation Team (contact details below) with fundingfrom Natural Resources Wales. Please note that information onevents run by other organisations is published in good faith andthe City and County of Swansea cannot be held responsiblefor inaccuracies.

Swansea has a natural environment of outstandingquality and beauty with a great diversity of landscapesand habitats including upland moorland, coastal cliffs,sandy beaches, heathland, woodland, wetlands, rivervalleys, grasslands, sand dunes and estuaries.

These habitats, together with the many parks and gardens,pockets of urban green-space and large areas of farmland,support a huge diversity of plant and animal species and makeSwansea one of the most attractive and ecologically diversecounties in the UK.

Love Your Countryside FestivalThis year, we are inviting everyone to celebratethe wonderful natural heritage, biodiversity andwild spaces of rural Swansea.

The Festival will take place from Saturday 6th to Sunday 21stSeptember and will include an exciting programme of eventsand activities taking place at a number of different locations.The aim of the Festival is to inspire people to get moreconnected to, love, value and look after their local wildlifeand the countryside.

The Festival is part of the City and County of Swansea’sCountryside Connections Project which is funded throughthe Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013 (funded bythe Welsh Government and the European Agricultural Fundfor Rural Development) and Natural Resources Wales.
