Justin Briggs is an Oklahoma native and technology executive with experience developing and commercializing products across biotech, nanotechnology, and software. Mr. Briggs leads operations and corporate development for Altheus Therapeutics, a venture-backed biotech company in Oklahoma City. Altheus is developing Zoenasa, a treatment for ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, and recently completed enrollment of a Phase 2 clinical trial—the furthest clinical milestone ever reached by an Oklahoma company.

Justin is the founder of Chorus Labs, a software company that creates tools for the modern workplace. Chorus Labs’ first product, Baton (batonapp.com), was released in 2013 and is available now on the web and soon to iOS and Android. Baton is a tool to capture important thoughts and send contextual messages to collaborators and coworkers to improve delegation and task man-agement.

Mr. Briggs also serves on the board of OhmSpace, Oklahoma City’s own makerspace, is a mentor at the Oklahoma Proof of Concept Center at i2E, a founding member and former Chairman of IgniteOKC, and, last year, served as Chairman of the Oklahoma Bioscience Roundtable.

Justin has a degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Oklahoma and an MBA in Finance with High Honors from Oklahoma City University.

Bob Browne’s place on the 2014 Entrepreneurship Day program is a fit for two reasons.

First, in entrepreneurial fashion, he engineered a highly leveraged buy out of a very traditional, well established, and well-known local business—Great Plains Coca-Cola Bottling Company. The time was 1980; interest rates were over 20%, and Bob was just 37 years old.

Bob’s leadership philosophies at the time could not have been more tradi-tional. Bob was a third generation Coca-Cola bottler, he had received his MBA from Columbia University, he was a Vietnam veteran, and he had worked in New York City with Arthur Andersen & Company before moving back to Okla-homa City.

Bob was CEO and Chairman of the Board of Great Plains from 1980 until he sold the company in 2012. During those 32 years, Great Plains grew to become the fifth largest bottler of Coca-Cola in North America.

But the second and more important reason that Bob is on our program today has to do with Great Plains’ transformation from those traditional western leadership philosophies that most of us know so well, to something very dif-ferent—something very much rooted in the teachings of W. Edwards Deming.

This transformation is explained in Bob’s new book, Becoming Better The Sys-Tao Way: Transforming Traditional Leadership Philosophies Through the Lens of a Classic American Business.

Bob will discuss how this transformation allowed Great Plains to become world class in so many ways, why so many established western organizations find this type of transformation difficult to accept, and why Asian cultures and entrepreneurs are more likely to embrace these emerging leadership philosophies as a better way to serve customers, achieve a competitive advan-tage, and, oh yes, make more money.

KAMI HUDDLESTON, BFACo-FounderBrides of Oklahoma

Kami Huddleston and Ashley Bowen Murphy are magazine and digital publish-ers who thrive on creativity—both in business and design. Kami, a graphic de-signer, and Ashley, an attorney, joined forces in 2007 to develop a multimedia platform that connected brides with local wedding vendors in the marketplace. Their multimedia advertising model—inclusive of print, web, blog, electronic and social media components—is the go-to resource brides rely upon to plan their weddings in the local marketplaces they currently serve.

The duo began their venture in Oklahoma with Brides of Oklahoma (www.bridesofoklahoma.com), and quickly expanded to serve the ninth largest city in the nation, Dallas, with Brides of North Texas (www.bridesofnorthtexas.com). They’ve been keenly focused on serving brides in the local wedding niche, where their proven content marketing strategies and quality print publications have become the premier wedding resource. Kami and Ashley expanded their mission to serve a wider audience with the recent launch of Wed Society (www.wedsociety.com)—the wedding inspiration search engine or “Google” for wed-dings. The site houses a collection of their favorite editorial content and wed-dings they publish but is also home to a searchable archive of tens of thousands of inspiring wedding images through partnership with an elite group of wedding photographers and wedding fashion designers from around the globe.

Kami and Ashley are both proud graduates of Oklahoma City University. Kami is originally from Illinois and came to OCU on a full scholarship to play soft-ball. Kami received her bachelor of fine arts in graphic design and won three national softball titles during her tenure. Ashley graduated summa cum laude with honors with a finance degree and served as president of the student body during her undergraduate years. She went on to attend law school at OCU as a Hatton W. Sumners scholar and received her JD in 2005. She worked in private practice at Hall Estill as an attorney before launching the company with Kami in 2007. Kami and Ashley both married fellow OCU graduates and each has two young children.
