ENGLISH PROSE 1. Lesson 5- The Brave Tailor Reading and Explanation A story about a wise tailor who loved to accept every challenge and because of his wittiness he managed to drive the giant insane. 2. Lesson 6- The Elephant and the Mice-Reading and Explanation A classic fable in which children learnt to help each others Children made craft of mice. 3. Adjectives or Describing words- Adjectives are words that tell more about nouns. For eg. girl ……… pretty, tall, beautiful etc. 2. Prepositions A preposition is a word that connects one thing with another, and shows how they are related. some prepositions tell about the position or place of someone or something. For eg. The teddy is on the chair. Activity : Children played a position game in the playground.

    The children were introduced to the concept of opposites. It was explained that certain describing words can form opposites of each other.

    For eg. Word opposite old young tall short

    Activity : Game of matching cards was played 4. Action words or verbs

    Words that suggest an action or work being done are called verbs or doing words.

    For eg. The children are studying. Bees collect nectar. 5. Singular and Plural Singular – Plural : The concept of one and many was introduced by adding Suffixes.

    ‘- s’, ‘- es’, ‘ies’, ‘ves’ and ‘en’

    6. Picture Composition – Children were shown pictures of different scenes and asked to write sentences on them using their imagination and creativity describing the pictures appropriately. 7. Creative writing – Picture Composition was introduced and various creative writing and picture composition topics were done in the note books and the spirals.

    1. Tables from 2 to 10

    Children learnt the tables from 2- 10 and revised tables from 2 – 10. Dodging tables was also done.

    2. Multiplication sums Multiplication sums both simple and with carry over were done in the note-books. Eg. H T O H T O 3 7 8 0 x 7 x 8 2 5 9 6 4 0 Corresponding pages from the textbook were done.

    3. Importance of ‘0’ in multiplication was explained.

    4. Problem sums on Multiplication Problem sums on multiplication were done without statements. Eg. One table has 4 legs. How many legs do 9 such tables have?? T O 9 tables X 4 legs _________ Answer = 36 legs

    5. Mixed problem sums on addition, subtraction and multiplication were done

    in the class. 6. Skip Counting by 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 were done in a play way method.

  • Maths 7. Fractions

    Children were explained the concept of full, half, quarter and three quarters. They were told that a square can be divided into 4 equal parts.

    eg. 1 part is ¼ of the full square 2 parts are ½ (half) of the full square 3 parts are ¾ ( three fourths of the full square)

    8. Money Introduced the value of paisa and rupees through coins and notes.

    Activity- Children were asked to bring notes and coins, such as 5 Rs coin and 10,20,50,100 Rs etc note and pasted the dummy currency in their notebooks.

    9. Time and Calendar

    The children were taught how to read, O’clock and half hour time. They were also taught how to write time in digits. eg.

    9:00 or 9 o’clock 1:30 or Half past 1 Corresponding work was done in the notebook and work book.

    Activity : A clock was shown in the class and a simple drawing of the clock was taught.

    10. Patterns Concept of patterns was introduced to the children. Activity:- Sequencing

    1. LESSON 13: NATIONAL FESTIVALS AND SYMBOLS : Students read and learnt about the importance of national festivals and symbols of India. They were taught to observe and understand the social and cultural environment of our country in a connected and inter-related way. The significance of the national festivals was emphasized in the lesson so as to make them realize that such celebrations brings together people from all parts of the country and fosters a sense of unity, brotherhood and equality. Each festival was discussed in detail and corresponding exercises were attempted in the text book and notebook. Activities: a. The students pasted pictures of Indian freedom fighters.. b. Just a minute. (Children spoke on a given festival and symbol)

    2. LESSON 15 : LET US COMMUNICATE : The importance of the means of communication was explained to the children. It is a medium to keep in touch with our friends and relatives who live near and far. Both the older and the modern means of communication were discussed. For eg. letters, telegram, telephones, cellphone, e-mail, fax etc. The importance of different means of mass communication like radio, T.V, newspaper etc was also emphasized as a medium to keep us updated of the daily happenings all around the world. Relevant exercises were done in the notebook too.

    Activities : a. Students pasted pictures of means mass of communication. b. Toy telephones were brought and children carried out interesting

    conversations on the same. c. Postcards and stamped envelopes were brought by the children.

    3. LESSON 7 : HOME SWEET HOME : The need and importance of house followed by the different types of houses was explained in detail to the students. They were also made aware about the different types of materials used to build them and who all are the makers of house . Lastly the importance of keeping house neat and clean was explained to the students.

    Activities: a. Children made a project on “ MY DREAM HOME”. b. Corresponding exercises were done in the notebook and book.

    4. LESSON 12 : FESTIVE TIME: In this lesson, students were explained about the fact why our country is named as the “ LAND OF FESTIVALS” and is asserted as a SECULAR NATION. The importance of religious festivals was emphasized. Children were explained that the festivals are of three types (family, religious and national) and are celebrated for fun and enjoyment. Besides the different religions followers follow the different teachings given in their religious scriptures were also discussed.

    Activities : a. Pictures of religious festivals were pasted in the notebook. b. Children visited Gurudwara in Agra c. Mock corner was set up and children enacted different Indian festivals.

    LESSON 14 : GOING PLACES : The topic was introduced by asking children how they come to school. They were explained in detail about AIR, WATER and LAND transport with their characteristics. Wheel invention was discussed in detail and its uses were discussed besides the transport for many other purposes.

    Activities : a. Children pasted their journey tickects of different means of transport.

    b. Importance of Wheel was explained and children made a wheel craft with bangle and matchsticks.

    6. LESSON 16 : AIR, WATER AND WEATHER- The need and importance of air followed by the different uses of air was explained in detail to the students. They were also made aware about the sources of water and different types of seasons in India. Activities : a. Children made a weather wheel. b. Candle experiment was conducted on the uses if Air (Burning). 7. LESSON 17 : MY GREEN WORLD- In this lesson the students were

    introduced to different kinds of plants like trees, shrubs and herbs. “Plants are useful in many ways” - This fact was illustrated through examples and colourful pictures. The students also attempted written exercises which enhanced their knowledge of the same.

    Activities : a. The students were taken around the school garden and various herbs, shrubs and trees were pointed out to them. b. They also drew a picture of a plant and labelled its parts. c. They made a colourful collage of all the things that plants give us.

  • Our li’l Goenkans used their creative minds to portray their colourful imagination and showcased their talent in the form of dance and theatre.

    learnt to perform in a group as they swayed to classical and non-classical music.

    Taekwondo: A healthy mind resides in a healthy body. Students learnt

    middle block, front rising, pushing kicks and various fighting techniques for overall development of the body and self - defence.

    Library: The students were encouraged to read good books to inculcate

    love for reading and enhance their vocabulary and language skills. Book week was celebrated and children learnt about various kinds of books like ‘Learning Good Manners’, ‘Kabuli wala(story)’ and ‘The Little Red Hen’.

  • To know more about computers, children covered various features about computers from the textbook “New Simplified Computers”. In the fifth chapter, Children learnt how to operate and switch on and switch off the computer. The sixth chapter dealt with children following certain rules while working in the computer lab. The seventh chapter talked about using the mouse. They learnt various terms connected to it such as „ clicking‟ and „dragging‟. To reinforce the above concepts, children were given simple written exercises. Children sharpened their logical thinking by placing the objects in the right sequence. Students enjoyed working on new softwares, wherein they applied their knowledge in the form of picture puzzles, mazes etc.

    Students enhanced their knowledge on various topics and became aware of their surroundings through class discussions and corresponding written exercises which were done in their book – “General Knowledge Update”. The following lessons were completed in the months of : September & October -- Lessons 15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22 November & December – Lessons 23,24,25,26,27,28,29

  • To create an environment awareness and the need to preserve our ecosystem, our little ones were introduced to various aspects of our vibrant flora and fauna. The children were introduced to various topics ‘Praying Mantis’, ‘Dragon Tree’, ‘Iris’ and ‘Quoll’. Colourful presentations along with detailed highlights enabled the children to grasp the concepts. Famous music personalities like Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Ustad Amzad Ali Khan, Ustad Zakir Hussain and Shiv Kumar added music to our children’s ears. Children came to know about the different facets of the lives of these great maestros and their rich contribution to our culture. Sports Legends like Tiger Woods, Nadia Comaneci, Michael Schumacher and SachinTendulkar were introduced. Their achievements were highlighted and explained to the students.

    Mathematical Skills:. Skip Counting was practiced with the help of the rajma seeds and colourful beads. Time was introduced to the children with the help of movable clock. Language Skills: Sounding words were done with their corresponding worksheets enhancing vocabulary building and sentence construction. Various grammar topics were reinforced through games and flash cards.
