ENGLAND London Honors Short Term Program OSU Sponsored Study Abroad Program

Program The London Honors program offers a unique opportunity for first quarter freshmen in the Honors program. Students will be in one of four class sections and take an autumn quarter class focusing on London’s culture and history. The class is co-taught by a faculty and staff member. The London portion of the program will include visits to St. Paul’s Cathedral, Tower of London, the Globe Theater, the British Museum, Westminster Abbey, in addition to two days out of London (Stonehenge, Bath, Cambridge, others). Students will also have the opportunity to go to a theatre performance. Location London, England. London is a major world capital offering some of the world’s finest museums, theatre, concerts, and the arts. Students will be housed in the Bayswater/Paddington area of London. Courses and Credit Student will take a seminar that meets every Wednesday evening from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. during autumn quarter 2009. The class is an introduction to British life and culture. There are individual lectures on specific topics about Britain (history, art, the education system, theatre, and more), class discussions, direct contact with British life and culture in London, and assignments that include a journal, presentation, and paper. Once accepted to the program, students will have 5 hours of IS 697 added to their Autumn 2009 schedule. This credit will be turned into 5 hours of H296 Pro Seminar with a grade for successful completion of the course requirements and short-term program in London. Accommodations Students will stay in double and triple rooms in modest hotels located centrally in London. Breakfast is included every morning at the hotel. Two group meals will also be provided. Program Costs The program costs Ohio State tuition and fees plus $2,195 (est.). The $2,195 program fee includes round trip international airfare from Columbus to London, hotel, breakfast, all program activities/tours/museum visits, two cultural performances, local transportation, and supplemental health insurance. Students should expect to bring at least $800 to cover the costs of the meals not included in the program fee and for personal expenses.

Financial Aid If you are an eligible student and are paying fees at Ohio State for at least half-time enrollment in an officially recognized Ohio State study abroad program, you will be able to receive most forms of federal, state, and university-controlled financial aid. Once you are accepted to participate in an Ohio State study abroad program, you are encouraged to schedule an appointment with a Financial Aid Counselor at 340 Lincoln Tower at least one full quarter before you depart. Insurance All students participating on Ohio State study abroad programs will receive supplementary medical insurance, through HTH Worldwide Services. Students are required to maintain their regular insurance coverage while participating on OSU study abroad programs. Following University procedure, you will automatically be assessed a fee each quarter for OSU Student Health Insurance unless exemption is requested. The provider and terms of the health insurance for study abroad are subject to change. Application Information Applications are available online, accessible through your Buckeye Link page at buckeyelink.osu.edu. All students must complete the application and essay. An application fee of $150.00 will be billed to your Statement of Account following submission of your application. The application fee will be refunded only if you are not accepted or submit a written request to withdraw your application prior to the application deadline. A selection committee will decide admission to the program and all students will be notified of the decisions during the first week of September. If you withdraw any time after the date of your notification of acceptance to a study abroad program, you will be responsible for any non-recoverable costs that have been incurred on your behalf plus a $200 cancellation fee.
