VTU Engineering has been involved in the design and engineering of processing plants for gasses, liquids and solids for more than 20 years. Our technological basis is high competence in process engineering and process technology. We consider the first stages of planning a project – the concept and basic engineering - to be the decisive factors for operability, realisation time and life-cycle costs. Another crucial success factor for every plant construction project is project management with communication and control-ling for all the different partners - starting with the future ope-rator, continuing with the parts suppliers, right up to the public authorities.

With excellent project management, we track and control all plan-ning services up to production that meets the specifications. This applies both to planning new plants as well as to plant optimisati-on and conversion.

Through numerous projects in different areas of the chemicals in-dustry as well as in extracting oil and gas and processing them, we combine special know-how with creativity that crosses industry boundaries in order to solve process-related tasks.

Experience in all areas of Processing Plant Construction

We have many years of experience in planning industrial plants and provide process development as a symbiosis of theory and practice. VTU Engineering supports projects for process develop-ment with and for customers, which range from complete develop-ment of the foundations and literature data up to process optimi-sation through changing process steps or process conditions.

In the process, the know-how and experience of the customer is included in the process development. We perform experiments and measurements in our technical centre as well as directly at the customer‘s site or in the labs of university institutes.

Process development

In the conceptual design phase the individual requirements have to be compiled and the objectives of the project have to be defined accurately. VTU prepares the operator requirements together with the client and incorporates know-how from plant technology start-ing in this early, important stage. An optimum process is devel- oped on this basis.

Expertise in process engineering, knowledge of the respective industry sector, experience in the implementation of processing plants and last but not least creativity must come together as a prerequisite for this work. VTU brings all of these components into your project at the highest level supported by the use of software tools for process simulation such as Aspen Plus and hYSYS, for example.

In our view basic engineering includes the planning tasks up to the process specification of plant equipment. The most impor-tant documents in this phase are the Piping and Instrumentation diagrams (P&Id).

Process engineering, works standards, requests from production, start-up and shut-down, unusual operating situations, safety as-pects, process control, service friendliness, pipeline classes, in-strument costs and many other items must be taken into account in preparing the P&Id. These are the core documents passed on to implementation planning (detailed engineering). CAd processing of the drawings can be in the form of simple drafting, for example in AutoCAd, or object-oriented software tools for plant planning may also be used (Comos PT, SmartPlant P&Id).

Basic Engineering

Proper coordination of the planning and assembly work is a key factor for the success of any technical project. The coordination of milestone completion dates, costs and quality across all the differ- ent technical sectors is a complex task for project management. In addition to technical qualifications, our VTU project leaders also have teamwork skills and leadership qualities as well as mas- tery of the controlling instruments. Software tools and systematic workflow are available for complex tasks.

Our experience in project management ranges from optimisation projects involving a wide diversity of customer departments to pro-ject management in large plant construction with responsibility for costs and deadlines.

EPCm Contracts

For the optimal operation of a plant, the raw material usage, energy consumption, product quality and product quantity must be properly balanced within the cost framework. because these parameters often change with time, achieving the optimal point is generally a complex task. There are many different approaches to making improvements, e.g. conversion/extension of plant compo-nents, modification of operating parameters, optimisation of the way operations are organised and the recycling of waste heat or valuable waste materials.

VTU supports you with its well-tuned systematic approach to im-proving your production. In many cases, it turns out to be possible to avoid costly plant expansions by implementing cost-effective optimisation measures.
