!1. IntroducDon
This manual explains how to:
1. Connect a Mk3 Secure unit to a Galaxy panel using the panel’s RS485 bus 2. Switch on SIA 3 alarm signalling 3. Enable UDL using the Redcare UDL service. Speak to your Redcare Sales Engineer first!
Please note that this manual is not intended to be a step-by-step guide, more of a general purpose guide for an alarm engineer who is familiar with the Honeywell Galaxy range in general. We’ve done our best to test as many variaDons as we can, but there will be some we haven’t. Where these panel seZngs fail to work as expected, please contact a member of the Redcare team.
Important
The Secure Mk3 unit sobware version should be at least A60P44 to use the UDL facility for G3/ Dimension panels. A60P35 will provide SIA alarm signalling, but some UDL funcDons will be restricted. A60P50 MUST be used for all G2 panels. A60P50 unit sobware is the latest at Dme of wriDng (September 2015).
If you’re unsure what unit sobware you have, you’ll need to power down then power up and watch the sobware level flash across the unit’s display. The last two digits that flash on the display can be ignored, so A60P50 will flash on the display as XX XX XX 50 XX. The Redcare Helpdesk can also remotely tell what sobware the unit has and perform any sobware upgrade as required.

!Any Secure Mk3 device is capable of sending alarms and performing UDL via RS485. This includes: Secure Solo (GPRS only), Secure 2 (GPRS primary and PSTN back up), Secure 3
(GPRS primary and PSTN back up) and Secure IP (IP primary and GPRS secondary). Alarm panel alarms (SIA 3) and UDL will always be sent via GPRS except for Secure IP where the IP
path will be favoured unless of a connecDvity issue, then GPRS will take over.
2. ConnecDon method
figure 1
ConnecDon advice
The Secure Mk3 unit should be connected to the Honeywell Galaxy panel as shown in figure 1, RS485A to A1 and RS485B to B1. Do not use the secondary data line (if your panel has one- A2/ B2) as it will not work. Ensure that the 0V of the secure unit is connected to the GND terminal on the panel.
It is recommended that good quality screened cable (Belden type, CAT5e or equivalent) is used in all wiring of this type to avoid interference on the panel’s data bus. A 680Ω resistor should be used at the end of the ‘daisy chain’ line of devices in the normal way, taking care not to exceed the maximum number of devices allowed on that data line. If the secure unit is fiked less than 5m from the alarm panel then an addiDonal terminaDon resistor is generally not required.
BT Redcare Secure Issue 1 September 2015
Galaxy SIA & UDL notes Page ! of ! All rights reserved4 34
!The Secure Mk3 unit has a 2 pin link (J300) adjacent to the displays, and bridging this will connect a 100 Ohm resistor across the RS485 A/B terminals. It is not recommended that this resistance value is used on any Honeywell system.
Secure Mk3 RS485 seZngs
From Secure Mk3 P44 sobware, the RS485 panel seZngs must be set for reliable operaDon. To set the correct RS485 seZng, do the following:
• Access programming mode by holding ‘MODE’ on the Secure Mk3 unit for at least 3 seconds or unDl ‘PL’ is displayed
• Repeatedly press ‘MODE’ unDl the display shows ‘S1’ o Press ‘SET’ and ‘=0’ is displayed (default) o Press ‘SET’ unDl the correct number for your panel is shown…
‘=3’ Galaxy Dimension 48/96/264/520 ‘=5’ Galaxy G3 48/144/520 ‘=6’ Galaxy G2 12/20/44 ‘=7’ Galaxy Classic 8/18/60/128 ‘=8’ Galaxy Classic 500/504/512
o Press ‘MODE’ unDl ‘??’ is displayed o Press ‘SET’ and ‘Pr’ will be displayed briefly and the Secure Mk3 unit will
reboot in the correct RS485 mode for your alarm panel

!How the alarm panel recognises the Secure Mk3 as a ‘device’
All Galaxy G3 and Dimension panels
The alarm panel will recognise the Secure Mk3 unit as a Galaxy E080 Ethernet module, and will show 2 modules added when Engineering Mode is exited. For example: was 5 devices, now 7. A check can be made on Engineer Menu 23, which will show one addiDonal Keypad, and one addiDonal Comms Module.
Typically Keypad = 3 and Comms Module = 3 on a simple system with 1 actual keypad and 1 Secure Mk3 unit on the RS485 bus.
Note that if the Secure Mk3 unit is powered down in service, then the panel will detect loss of the device on the RS485 bus and generate fault messages on the panel keypad accordingly. i.e. “+MISSING COM 4” and “+MISSING KEY 15”.
All Galaxy G2 12/20/44 panels
The alarm panel will recognise the Secure Mk3 unit as a single Ethernet module, and will show ‘Ethernet Module’ added when Engineering Mode is exited.
Your ARC will see tamper alarms now from this device
Tamper alarms will also be queued to send to ARC, i.e. pi004 TA and pi015 TA. When power to the Secure unit is restored, these faults will clear following the next enter/exit of Engineer mode. Bear this in mind when reading an alarm report from your ARC. When the Secure Mk3 is recognised by the alarm panel for the first Dme, ‘Panel ConnecDon Up’ will be shown in SIA 3 on the alarm log.
Please note: PSTN Line Voltage detecDon ( “+ LINE FAILCOM 1”)
Galaxy panels normally have PSTN voltage detecDon enabled on the PSTN port. This will result in an “ALERT LINE FAIL 1” and “+ LINE FAILCOM 1” being displayed on the keypad and also a “Phone Line Trouble LT event being signalled to the ARC.
As the PSTN input on the panel is unlikely to have 50V present when alarms are being signalled to a Secure Mk3 unit over RS485, it is suggested that the PSTN line voltage detecDon should be disabled as follows.
56 = CommunicaDon 1 = Int Telecoms 10 = Line fail 1 = Line Volts 0 = Disabled

Alarm signalling device ‘line fault’ monitoring, instead of PSTN line monitoring on the panel. Linking the Secure Mk3’s LF output to a Honeywell Galaxy panel
Most Galaxy panels do not have a Line Fail (LF) input and so any external device which has line fail detecDon, Redcare Secure Mk3 included, should be wired to the Galaxy panel in a way which tells the Galaxy system of a ‘line fault’ if it should occour. In the case of Secure Mk3, both paths (if applicable) are configured to acDvate Output One in the case of a line or network connecDvity problem. Most Galaxy panels have ‘line fail’ as an opDon on the zone opDons menu and so in order to trigger the zone in the event of line fail, a change in resistance must be detected by the zone in order to work. Below are some suggesDons for Secure Mk3 to Galaxy panel wiring for LF. This is mandatory on a Grade 3-4 system.
For Secure Mk3 devices WITHOUT HONEYWELL OUTPUT MODE

Galaxy SIA & UDL notes Page ! of ! All rights reserved7 34
!For Secure Mk3 devices WITH HONEYWELL OUTPUT MODE (available from sobware P44)
Suggested order for establishing the Secure Mk3 on your alarm panel’s data bus
• Down power your alarm panel (just in case) • Connect power feed to Secure Mk3 unit • Connect AB and OV connecDons (as per figure 1, page 3) • Use suitable fixings to secure the Secure Mk3 unit within the panel (if room). Use a
tamper monitored/ regulated power supply alarm equipment box if no room is available in the panel
• Carefully route the antenna’s cable away from the bus cabling and out through the panel’s casing. Mount the antenna
• Power up the Secure Mk3/ alarm panel • The Secure will boot up and establish itself on the network. Remember, a minium
signal strength of (CSQ) ‘12’ is recommended for reliable operaDon. A signal level below will affect reliable UDL operaDon (drop outs etc).
Please note: The Secure Mk3 unit will not be recognised by the alarm panel unDl the panel has been programmed appropriately.
Secure Mk3 use with RS485 panel seZngs vary depending on the type of panel and the panel’s sobware level.
General SIA 3 advice
• SIA Alarms give the zone ID/ user details/ group ID and any ASCII text to the ARC • All alarm types should be chosen by the installer (don’t leave as default) • Rubbish in-rubbish out, if no zones are labelled in the panel, the SIA Alarm could be
confusing to the ARC and end user
BT Redcare Secure Issue 1 September 2015
Galaxy SIA & UDL notes Page ! of ! All rights reserved8 34
!• Using RS485, SIA 3 alarm transmission is faster than a dial-up connecDon
The following seZngs will enable SIA 3 (extended format signalling)
This means that the Secure Mk3 unit will transmit point ID, system debug informaDon as required and user access (amongst other informaDon alarms) from the panel’s data line/ bus to the ARC via the Redcare Network. SIA 3 alarm transmission give substanDally more alarm informaDon to the ARC over tradiDonal PIN informaDon (see figure 2 next page). Your ARC should create a ‘SIA’ profile for your Secure Mk3 TA account number before alarm tesDng is carried out. There is no extra charge for using SIA 3 over PINs. Using a combinaDon of SIA 3 and PINs may cause confusion to the ARC without discussing specific requirements for a parDcular site beforehand. Always discuss the exact alarms you wish to be monitored and test each one during commissioning with your ARC.

Enabling UDL on Galaxy panels in general
The following seZngs apply to the whole Galaxy range in general. HOWEVER, there are subtle variaDons between panel varients that seem to include slightly different menu opDons and structures. What follows is based on the concensus of panels tested and encountered.

!The set up/ configuraDon assumes that a member of the Redcare team has set your company’s access to Redcare UDL already. The connecDon from your PC to the panel is made using ‘Redcare Interceptor’. This can be used along side other connecDon methods. To request the Redcare UDL service, you need to be a Redcare customer and have ordered Redcare Secure already. If you would like to arrange this, please call the Redcare Helpdesk on 0800 800628.
General UDL principles
All Galaxy panels should be accessed using standard RSS/ Galaxy Gold sobware available from Honeywell. Redcare does not supply this sobware. Both panel seZngs and RSS/ Galaxy Gold seZngs are included to aide account creaDon, based on a reasonable understanding of both panel and UDL sobware.
