Hi there!

There’s a lot that will be new at Summer School 2015. A new venue, a new date, and a new lower price! There will be a number of new staff joining some of our experienced team. There is also a new theme as we join with the UK Territory under the theme ‘Open Your Eyes’. Alongside all that newness, some things remain the same. Our values of worship, discipleship, unity, and fun will underpin the whole programme with Jesus at the centre.

Who is it for? – Any young person aged 12-23 participating in Salvation Army youth programme. When and where is it? – From 16th to 22nd August @ Trent College, Long Eaton, Nottingham. What does an average day look like? – Each day after breakfast there will be a full programme of engaging activities. You will begin the day with one of your two main option sessions followed by whole school worship and small groups where you will unpack the topic or theme for each day. In the afternoon there will likely be another main option session, some free time, and something for the whole school to get involved in. Each evening there will be a social event, in the past these have included; water fights, talents showcases, theme nights, films, games evenings, and special guest visitors. After the days programmed activities we will have an evening reflection before chilling out and relaxing in the school common rooms before lights out. That sounds great, how do I apply? In this application pack you will find all the information and forms you should need to book your place. The pack includes:

Application form Option outlines Consent forms Medical form Code of Conduct

Please return this completed booklet along with your deposit to Andrew Whitehouse at East Midlands DHQ. Once we have received your form and deposit, we will send a confirmation letter. Please note that there is a new way to pay this year with the option to break the cost up and pay monthly by standing order, a form is included.

Summer School 2015 will be an exciting event and will be made even better if you’re there so don’t miss out.

Yours in Christ

Option OutlinesBrassThe brass option this year will provide exciting and challenging music for players of all levels. They will also be challenged to go beyond the notes on the page and discover how the music and the words behind it relate to their discipleship journey. This option is for anyone who enjoys playing brass music and wants to develop in their faith and their playing.

VocalAs with the brass option, vocal is more than just about the notes on the page. Young people really get to grips with what the songs mean and how they influence their faith. The singing becomes more than just a performance, it becomes their testimony. This option is for anyone who loves singing and wants to discover more about themselves through song.

DramaIn our drama option, the confidence of the young people will be drawn out not only leading them through pre-prepared scripts but also developing their skills of improvisation. This option is for anyone who wants to express themselves through drama, and learn more about God and their relationship with Him through this art form.

Worship LeadershipThis option covers a wide range of subjects such as; leading and supporting worship, leading and being part of a band, creative worship, and worship theory. Through this option, young people discover the essence of what being a true worshipper really means and how to lead and support others in their worship experience.

DanceAs well as learning pre-choreographed routines the dance option will look at how dance can be used as an expression of worship and a tool for ministry.

Worship MediaThe use of new media to support and express worship is increasing. The Worship Media options will look at and use a variety of mediums to explore and express worship, from photography and videography to social media and the use of the web.

Sports MinistryThis option is for anyone who has a passion for sport and would like to discover more about how they can use that to reach out to others in their community.

ArtThe Art stream will encourage young people to develop skills in a variety of artistic styles. The option will also explore creativity and finding inspiration from scripture, verse, and the world we see around us.

Deeper LivesThis stream is the only option with an age limit. If you are 16+ you can get involved with Deeper lives. It’s an opportunity to do more than scratch the surface on some of the big issues facing young people and the Church today. This will be a safe environment for discussion and conversation.

All our options and programme are driven by 6 core values on which the ethos of the school is built

Relevant Worship Intentional Discipleship Authentic Relationships Skill Development Valuable Take Home Holistic Environment

Page 4: EMSS 2015 application pack

These 6 values are the foundation on which the school programme is developed and delivered.
