Speakers

Jean Torrens has extensive experience acting for employers, including conducting collective bargaining; advising on discipline, terminations and the duty to accommodate; and drafting personnel policies and employment contracts. She also assists companies in the defence of wrongful dismissal claims, human rights and labour board complaints, grievance arbitrations, and responses to serious OH&S incidents. She is a regular presenter at conferences, a former Director of HRAC and a former lecturer at the University of Saskatchewan, College of Law.

Walter Pavlic, Q.C. has advised and represented management of small and large businesses on labour relations and employment matters for over 25 years. He has experience with collective bargaining, human rights complaints, discipline issues, dismissal planning, wrongful dismissal litigation, employment contract preparation, non-competition actions, Anton Piller Orders, grievance arbitrations and Labour Relations Board hearings. He appears before administrative boards, arbitration panels and the courts.

Kevin Wilson, Q.C. advises unionized and non-union clients on all aspects of labour and employment law. Kevin works with employers to implement policies and procedures to minimize the risk of workplace disruptions, and provides advice on human resource management issues such as safety, discipline and harassment. He has appeared numerous times before courts, labour relations boards, boards of arbitration and other administrative tribunals, and is a frequent speaker on labour and human rights law.

Leanne Hosfield Harding advises management-side clients in both the public and private sectors. She advises on a variety of labour and employment issues, providing services related to collective agreement interpretation, labour relations, workplace policies, discipline and discharge, and employment contracts. Leanne acts for employers in wrongful and constructive dismissal claims, human rights complaints, Labour Relations Board hearings, OH & S proceedings, and grievance arbitrations in Alberta. She has represented clients at the Alberta Court of Queen's Bench, the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Alberta Labour Relations Board and various administrative boards and tribunals.

Sean Fairhurst counsels employers on preventative employment practices, procedures and policy manuals, severance obligations and dismissal. His experience in policy drafting includes OH& S compliance and negotiation of service and employment contracts including non-solicitation and non-competition clauses. Sean has represented a number of employers following serious work place accidents and human rights complaints and in injunction applications. He has appeared before all levels of the Alberta courts, a wide range of regulatory tribunals and at private arbitrations.

Danielle Emmett has a general labour and employment practice. She has assisted employers with occupational health and safety issues, human rights complaints, labour relations matters, discipline and termination, workplace policies, accommodation and privacy issues. Danielle has appeared before the Alberta Court of Queen's Bench and the Alberta Provincial Court, and has experience with human rights mediation.
