MY ROLE: I came up with multiple drafts in order to compliment the beautiful illustration. This won design of the week and was entered into the news design category for the SSND competition.

THE TASK: Design a package of social media quote cards and print page for a story about SU soccer players’ hair styles
MY ROLE: I decided this unconventional story needed more interesting art. I collaborated with the photo editor to concept and create the photo illustrations. I also created accompanying quote cards to promote the story on social media. This won design of the week.

THE TASK: Design the sports back page after a blowout loss to UConn
MY ROLE: The original plan was to have just one dominant photo on the sports back, but the game was such a huge loss that multiple photos were a better option for the package of stories. I helped convince the photo editor and sports editor to follow through with this decision. This was entered in the sports design category for the 2017 SSND competition.

THE TASK: Create an infographic to give a quick summary of both the SU men’s and women’s basketball teams during March Madness
MY ROLE: I had tried using cutouts in graphics once before, but this was the first time it came out as a developed concept. I worked with the photo editor and presentation director to choose photos and edited graphics the sports staff sent me to create this full page graphic illustration. This won design of the week.

THE TASK: Develop a style guide and design a 12 page guide sports special edition guide
MY ROLE: I, along with another freshman designer, created the style guide and designed the entire annual Spring Football Guide. We developed stylized pull quotes, graphic styles, headline treatments and color scheme. The editor-in-chief created the cover based on our style guide.

THE TASK: Create a quirky spread to break down various classes available in the upcoming semester to help advise students based on their identification with cartoon characters
MY ROLE: After multiple sketches and drafts, this was my final version of my first spread. It took me several attempts to try to work on a consistent grid and honor all the varying illustrations, while creating a cohesive aesthetic.

THE TASK: Design print edition and special edition quote cards to promote The Daily Orange’s annual Basketball Guide in the of fall of 2016
MY ROLE: Created these cards, which were used to promote the stories and guide, which I also designed along with the presentation director. These cards improved user engagement with The D.O.’s main and sports Twitter pages.

THE TASK: Create a print and digital campaign for The Daily Orange’s annual street festival Beats & Eats
MY ROLE: Created and executed art concept for three print advertisements; developed copy and tagline along with Andy Mendes (we are just your average Fear Factor applicants and copywriting/art direction extraordinaires); contributed to Snapchat geofilter design
THE CAMPAIGN: For the digital campaign, we partnered with Tapingo, a popular food delivery service on Syracuse University’s campus. In the week leading up to the event, we plan to have a “Tapingo Scavenger Hunt.” Discount codes will be hidden in print ads in The Daily Orange. These codes will give readers $1 off orders. Beats & Eats ads will also appear on the Tapingo app in the weeks leading up to the event. On the actual day, Tapingo will partner with food trucks. Through this partnership, participants will be able to order ahead on the mobile app. This will allow patrons to focus on the music and hang out with friends, not wasting time waiting in line. This will also encourage users to engage with the app and their phones. This will also drive traffic and increase usage of the Snapchat geofilter that will be accessible at the event venue.
