Kerala's real wealth is the Brain Power of its people. Exploiting the Brain Power and Knowledge Bases is a real challenge that demands the formulation of the required Theories, Strategies, Systems, Technologies and Business Models. It takes more than 30 years of intensive study and research to develop them. It involves several Intellectual Property Right Issues. as none of the existing companies has developed such a complex system to process and handle Knowledge rather than Data or Information. They have been developed based on Knowmatics and Mathew's Theories of Knowledge Consumption- Production. They are dealt in detail in the paper 'Knowmatics- A New Revolution in Higher Education' Journal of the World Universities Forum, 4,1,2011:1-11, which was originally presented for the Fourth World Universities Forum, Hong Kong, Jan. 14-16, 2011. The paper by Mathew, R. M. and Mathew, R. has been nominated as a Finalist for the International Award for Excellence. Mathew's Theories of Knowledge was originally formulated in 1984 and got published from Moscow by the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1985 in eight languages. They provide the basic theoretical and methodological tools to treat Knowledge , though intangible, as a Commodity or Product for Consumption, Production and Exchange or Marketing. They have wide applications in Acquisition of the Sophisticated Skills, Education, Scientific Productivity,Professional Practices and etc.

  • 1. DR. RAJU M. MATHEW

2. BRAIN POWER THE STRATEGIC RESOURCE FOR THE NEW ERA OF DEVELOPMEWNT The Strategic Resource for Keralas Development isthe Brain Power and Knowledge Bases of its people, especially the new Generation of the Youth andWomen. Gone are ages of Agriculture, Industry or InformationTechnology, including Software Development andBusiness Outsourcing for ensuring sustaineddevelopment of Kerala. Of course, they have only asupplementary role in creating income andemployment for the New Generation. It is time forformulating a New Development Model for Kerala. 3. SYSTEM, TECHNOLOGY ANDBUSINESS MODEL Knowmatics (Mathew, 2005 ,Calicut University and2011, Hong Kong),founded on Mathews Theories ofKnowledge Consumption-Production (Mathew,1985,Moscow) offers the strategic tools and techniques indeveloping the suitable System, Technology andBusiness Model in exploiting the Brain Power of thePeople and thereby developing Knowledge Industries. Knowmatics, the System, the Technology and theBusiness Model have been developed thanks to morethan 30 years of intensive study and researchconducted by Dr. Raju M. Mathew. 4. PIONEERING WORKS Developing scientific tools in treating Knowledge as aCommodity or Product for Consumption, Production andMarketing and formulating the two basic Theories ofKnowledge, by taking into account the quantitative andqualitative aspects of Knowledge, are the pioneering andstrategically important work carried out by Mathew. These theories have direct bearing in building up theModern Knowledge Industries, quite different from theconventional approach of putting Education, IT basedIndustries, Scientific Research or even Pharmaceuticals ,Biotechnology and etc. within the frame work ofKnowledge Industries, as subscribed to by the KnowledgeCommission of India, especially Dr. Sam Pitroda. 5. KNOWMATICS ANDMATHEWS THEORIES Knowmatics , built upon Mathews theories of Knowledge , is powerful enough to make a Revolution in Education, especially Higher Education, besides Skill Acquisition, Scientific Research, Professional Practices and Decision Making. It also recognizes the incompatibility of IT in dealing with Knowledge rather than Data or Information. 6. KERALA --THE REAL WEALTH Kerala, the Sothern State of India, is covered with green fields andmountains and pure water lakes for its prolonged rainy seasons. Thanks to the high density of population and environmentalawareness of its people, Kerala is reluctant to go for pollution-makingindustrialization and intensive farm development. Kerala spends more money for education and health care thananything else for the sharp brain power, unending thirst for newskills, expertise and knowledge and health consciousness of itsyounger generation who prefer the service sector to agriculture orindustrial sectors. Almost all households in Kerala can digitally beinterconnected thanks to its extensive high speed fiber opticnetworks. The real wealth of Kerala is the Brain Power, Knowledge, Skills andExpertise of its people, including those who settled in other countriesthat have not yet been exploited so far. Kerala needs a NewDevelopment Model based on the Brain Power ,Skill, Knowledge andExpertise of its people rather than Agriculture or Industry or even IT. 7. THE CONVENTIONALDEVELOPMENT MODEL The conventional development model is based on industrialization and intensive farming with limited role for the service sector. For the high density of population, anti-pollution drives of the people and the lack of sufficient land to spare for industries, agriculture or even infrastructure development, this development model is unsustainable for Kerala. 8. HUMAN RESOURCE-BASED DEVELOPMENT MODEL By realizing the limitation of industrializationand farm development, Kerala has formulated adevelopment model based on Education,Migration of Labor, Urbanization, Tourism andSoftware Export. For the tough competition in the global market,Kerala cannot relay too much on LaborMigration, Tourism and IT based Industries, especially Software Export, including BusinessOutsourcing. 9. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGYHEADING TOWARDS STAGNATION The great promises made by Information Technology in 1990s havenot yet been materialized other than flooding the world with toomuch scattered and fragmented data and information. Everybody isover-loaded with fragmented and confusing data or information thathave adversely affected the quality of Education, especially ofUniversities and Scientific Research, besides, National EconomicPolicies and Planning, Business Forecasting, Corporate Planning andManagement . The present global economic crisis is an offspring of the wrongprojections and miscalculations consequent on the too much relianceupon half-backed and confused Data or Information in stead ofWisdom and knowledge. The Global Economy is heading towards astagnation with regard to Information Technology that will affect theemployment opportunities, especially in Software Export andOutsourcing that are becoming highly competitive. 10. KNOWLEDGEAND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Computer and Information Technology have been designed forprocessing and handling linear and static Data or Information due tothe fact that the very basis of IT is Algorithms built upon the DataStructure which is Linear and Static and the building blocs of Data arebits. On the other hand, the structure of Knowledge is Non-Linear andDynamic and the building blocs of Knowledge are Concepts. That isthe reason why; IT is not compatible for Processing and HandlingKnowledge. Without using and generating strategic Knowledge, theHumanity is at great risk. It is time for the Humanity to devise a New Science or Technology toprocess and handle Knowledge that are scattered and unmanageableand to augment the Consumption and Production of Knowledge, thevery basis of the survival and advancements of the Humanity. 11. ALTERNATIVE DEVELOPMENT MODEL A Stage has reached in which Kerala can no longer dependon the existing development model and it has toformulate a different model based on Knowledge andBrain Power. It demands of Making Kerala, A Global Learning,Knowledge Generating and Knowledge Processing andRepackaging Centre that necessitates the emergence of aClean, Smart and Learning Friendly Kerala and thereby aKnowledge Insensitive Society. Knowmatics, a science and technology of knowledgeprocessing originated in Kerala, offers wonderfulopportunities for Kerala in these regards. 12. THE CHALLENGE OF KNOWLEDGEAND BRAIN POWER The greatest challenge for formulating a DevelopmentModel based on Knowledge and Brain Power is theabsence of any model of transforming them into globallymarketable products or services on a massive scale. The nature of Knowledge and Brain Power are non-linearand Dynamic, unlike Data and Information, there is alimitation for Information Technology to process, handleor manage Knowledge scattered into hundreds ofDomains. The existing theories of Knowledge, developments inCognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence do not havemuch use in transforming Knowledge and Brain Powerinto Tradable Products for Mass Consumption Globally. 13. MATHEWS THEORIES OF KNOWLEDGE After developing theoretical and methodological tools inmeasuring and categorizing Knowledge as a Product forConsumption and Production , as early as 1985, Mathewformulated two theories on Knowledge Consumption-Production Growth of both Individuals and the Society asa whole. They got published from Moscow by the USSR Academyof Sciences and later appeared into several languages andbecame an area for Doctoral Research. They have beentreated as useful theories in Informatics, Linguistics,Cognitive Science and Knowledge Engineering besidesaugmenting Skill Acquisition and Scientific Productivity. 14. KNOWMATICS ANDKNOWLEDGE INDUSTRY On the basis of a series of prolonged studies on thestructure of diverse Domains of Knowledge and theTheoretical and Philosophical Foundations ofInformation Technology,Mathew propoundedKnowmatics in 2005. It is aimed at processing andhandling Knowledge and thereby developing KnowledgeIndustries, quite different from Information Technologyor ICT Industries. He found that there exists a commonstructure for all Domains of Knowledge and the buildingblocs of Knowledge are concepts and that of informationare bits. Knowmatics is founded on Mathews Theories ofKnowledge Consumption-Production Growth publishedin 1985 from Moscow by the USSR Academy of Sciences. 15. THE PATH MAKING WORK With the publication of the paper, Knowmatics- A NewRevolution in Higher Education, in the Journal of theWorld Universities Forum 4,1,2011:1-11 by Dr. Mathewjointly with Ranjit Mathew, the International communityhas been made aware of the untapped potentialities ofKnowmatics in transforming Knowledge and Brain Powerinto marketable products for mass consumption. The paper was originally presented for the Fourth WorldUniversities Forum held at Hong Kong, Jan.14-16, 2011 andits video presentation has been posted in the YouTube. Ithas been nominated to the Finalists for the IntentionalAward for Excellence. 16. A NEW DEVELOPMENT MODEL FOR KERALA BASEDON ITS UNTAPPED BRAIN POWER ANDKNOWLEDGE WELATH For the business initiative of a major investment and business group,Mathew has been developing a Development Model and a BusinessStrategy making use of Knowmatics , transforming every householdin Kerala into a Knowledge Processing Unit. It aims at commercially exploiting the untapped Knowledge andBrain Power of Kerala into Value-Added Knowledge Packages,Services and Solutions for the Global Market in Education, PracticingProfessions, Scientific Research, Decision Making in Government,Private or Corporate Sectors and even the Common People. It offers thousands ofincome and employment generatingopportunities in terms of several billions. The project involves severalquestions related to Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for whichinitial steps have already been taken. Its success depends upon theability of the rulers and the investors to capture the idea andfacilitating its execution. 17. MAKING KNOWLEDGE ACCESSIBLEAND AFFORDABLE FOR ALL Knowledge is universal and free from language, culture, religion, ideology or even education and literacy. Knowledge is capable ofempowering the masses. The very philosophy behind Knowmatics is making knowledgeaccessible and affordable to all, crossing the thick walls built bythe Education Systems and Socio-Political- Cultural Systems ,soas to augment the knowledge consumption of the Humanity intoseveral folds and thereby attain a quantum leap in humandevelopment. Knowmatics is capable of making the masses, even theilliterates, rich in knowledge and capable of putting knowledgeinto practice. 18. KNOWMATICS : GLOBAL INITATIVES ARE REQUIRED The international community has not yet fully realized thepotentialities of Knowmatics. It is capable of making aRevolution in Knowledgizing the entire Humanity andtransforming almost all Social Production ProcessesKnowledge Intensive besides Education, ScientificResearch and Professional Practices. Knowledge, in all forms or types, including the traditionalor indigenous Knowledge, scattered in millions of booksand brains or memories of the living can be brought into acommon digital system. Global Research and Funding arerequired to exploit the full potentialities of Knowmaticsfor the service of the Humanity. 19. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Dr. Raju M. Mathew propoundedKnowmatics, the Mathematics,Economics and Engineering of Knowledge in 2005 , founded upon hisinternationally acclaimed Theories of Knowledge Consumption-Production Growth that got published from Moscow by the USSRAcademy of Sciences in 1985 and became an area for DoctoralResearch in Skill Acquisition and Scientific productivity. His latest work, Knowmatics- A New Revolution in HigherEducation jointly with Ranjit Mathew, published in the Journal ofthe World Universities Forum 4,1,2011:1-11, has been nominated as aFinalist for the International Award of Excellence. He has severalworks on the Global Economic Crisis, the Arab Spring, NewDevelopment Strategies and etc. that can be found in the net. Dr. Mathew also acknowledges the support that he is getting fromRani Raju, Global English School, Al Ain, UAE and Ranjit Mathew ofthe Random House Group, London for his works in Knowmatics.
