    Version Release Date Description

3.0.0 October 6, 2020 Initial General Availability release for VMware vRealize® True Visibility™

    Known Issues/Limitations

The following known issues/limitations exist for the currently-released version of the Management Pack:

n Data values may appear slightly differently in vROps vs. the Isilon OneFS UI. This difference is due to Isilon converting its byte units to Kibi/Mebi/Gibi bytes (1024), while vROps converts its bytes units to Kilo/Mega/Giga (1000).

n Due to known issues with Isilon, Active Directory authentication is only available on OneFS 8.1+.

  • Getting Started (Dell EMC Isilon) 2How the Management Pack Works

The Management Pack for Dell EMC Isilon accesses the OneFS API to import Isilon clustered NAS resources, relationships, metrics, and alerts into vRealize Operations to enable comprehensive monitoring and troubleshooting, while providing visibility into the virtual layer within vROps. Specifying a virtual IP during configuration allows the management pack to discover all nodes, returning data for each node, and enabling failover if the primary node goes down.

    How to Get Started

To get started monitoring your Dell EMC Isilon storage devices from within vRealize Operations, see the following topics:

1 Review the System Requirements (Dell EMC Isilon) and ensure you have performed the necessary prerequisite tasks:

n Have your Isilon virtual IP, user name, and password available.

n Ensure you have completed Assigning Dell EMC Isilon User Permissions.

n If using SSL and you want the highest level of security available, ensure you have completed Adding an SSL Certificate to the vROps Truststore (Dell EMC Isilon).

2 Install the management pack. See: Chapter 4 Installing the Management Pack (Dell EMC Isilon).

3 Configure the management pack. See: Chapter 5 Configuring the Management Pack (Dell EMC Isilon). If you encounter any Test Connection errors when configuring, see: Chapter 6 Troubleshooting the Management Pack (Dell EMC Isilon).

Chapter 4 Installing the Management Pack (Dell EMC Isilon)

Adding an SSL Certificate to the vROps Truststore (Dell EMC Isilon)

We recommend adding an SSL certificate for your Dell EMC Isilon host server to the vROps truststore to help provide an added level of security.

Important If you select Verify for the SSL Config Advanced Setting when Creating an Adapter Instance (Dell EMC Isilon), the management pack will attempt to verify the SSL certificate on your vROps system. Follow the steps below to add the certificate to the truststore.

To add the SSL certificate to your vROps truststore:

1 Obtain the SSL certificate for your Dell EMC Isilon host server from your Internet browser. Export the certificate as an X.509 Certificate (PEM).

2 Copy the certificate to your vROps machine.

3 Use ‘ssh’ to log in to the vROps machine as the root user, then run the following command:

    Linux:

    $VCOPS_BASE/jre/bin/keytool -import -alias -file /tmp/ -keystore "$VCOPS_DATA_VCOPS/user/conf/ssl/tcserver.truststore" -storepass `grep ssltruststorePassword /storage/vcops/user/conf/ssl/storePass.properties | sed s/ssltruststorePassword=//` -trustcacerts

    Windows:

%VCOPS_BASE%\jre\bin\keytool -import -alias C:\path\to\certfile -keystore "%VCOPS_DATA_VCOPS%\user\conf\ssl\tcserver.truststore" -storepass -trustcacerts

If they show as Not Collecting or No Data Receiving, respectively, the following troubleshooting topics can help you diagnose and correct common problems with your adapter instance.

    Test Connection Errors

When Creating an Adapter Instance (Dell EMC Isilon), click Test Connection after entering all of your configuration settings to ensure vROps can connect to the specified host.

    The following errors are possible:

Connection Timeout. Check Host and/or Port.

Error Message: “Connection Timeout. Check Host and/or Port.”

Solution: Verify the Hostname and Port are correct when Creating an Adapter Instance (Dell EMC Isilon). If they are, increase the Connection Timeout to give the system enough time to connect to the system.

'Host' is invalid. Accepted Host formats are: [Host Name, Fully Qualified Domain Name, IPv4, IPv6].

Error Message: “'Host' is invalid. Accepted Host formats are: [Host Name, Fully Qualified Domain Name, IPv4, IPv6].”

Solution: When Creating an Adapter Instance (Dell EMC Isilon), ensure the Hostname is specified correctly (acceptable formats are domain name, FQDN, or IPv4/IPv6 address).

    Username or Password is incorrect.

Error Message: “Username or Password is incorrect.”

Solution: When Creating a Credential (Dell EMC Isilon), ensure the Dell EMC Isilon user name and password specified are correct.

Failed to establish an SSL connection.

Error Message: “Failed to establish an SSL connection.”

    VMware, Inc. 19

  • Solution 1: If using SSL, ensure you have set the SSL Config Advanced Setting to No Verify or Verify when Creating an Adapter Instance (Dell EMC Isilon). If you selected Verify, also ensure that you've completed Adding an SSL Certificate to the vROps Truststore (Dell EMC Isilon).

Solution 2: If you are still encountering the error after completing Solution 1, check to see if the security certificate was installed into port 8081 (rather than 8080) on your Isilon system. See our Customer Support Team's knowledge article Installing a Security Certificate for the Dell EMC Isilon Management Pack to remedy the default port discrepancy, if needed.

    Collection Errors

Problem: Some resources and/or metrics are not showing up every collection.

Solution: Check the logs to see if there are any reported timeout issues. If so, increase the Connection Timeout Advanced Setting to accommodate data retrieval. You may also consider reducing the number of Concurrent Requests. See: Creating an Adapter Instance (Dell EMC Isilon).

    Adapter and Collector Log Files

You can review adapter errors in the adapter and collector log files, which can be viewed in the vROps UI or in an external log viewer.

n Adapter log files are located in the $VCOPS_BASE/user/log/adapters/DellEMCIsilonAdapter/ folder.

n Collector log files are located in the $VCOPS_BASE/user/log/ folder.

To set the base log level for the collector in vROps:

    1 Navigate to Administration > Logs .

2 Expand the MASTER folder, then select the COLLECTOR folder.

3 Click the Edit Properties icon.

4 In the Root logger level drop-down menu, select the desired option:

n The default logging level is warning.

n To troubleshoot issues, set the logging level to info.

n To view detailed messages, including micro steps, queries, and returned results, set the logging level to debug.

Caution If you set the logging level todebug , log files can become large very quickly. Set the logging level todebug only for short periods of time.

For more information about viewing log files and modifying levels, refer to the vROps online help.
