Datomec Exhibition brief

This brief was to re-create an exhibition held by Datomec LTD in solihull. The program I used was autodesk Maya and it was to be created on any 3D software. This was due to the ideology of the company, the future of exhibitions. the future of exhibitions. due to the advance in tech-nology no longer will an art distributor company have to pay lots of money to rent an exhibition space and to pay any other costs other than to produce a 3D exhibition. plus it would be a lot easier to get more people to view the art inside!

How the brief went

Initially I was quite ap-prehensive about this brief due to the fact that I had only completed one other Maya brief for university. but as the brief went on I fell more and more in love with the and more in love with the program and the brief. this was also the first Maya project of mine that I used accurate measure-ments instead of just free forming objects as I go on. this proved very benificial to my practice as it wasnt just an ex-periment of my own, I was subbmiting the work to a proffessional company so it had to be at a proffessional quality in order to reach a realis-tic render. I also gained alot of knowledge in tex-tures and rendering.

I feel as though I responded to the brief very well! as I have many of the same be-liefs as Datomec, how the virtual world is over taking the commercial one in terms of presenting artistic endevours. The skills I learnt in this brief will stay with me through out my career.

It is definitely somethinig I would consider following as a career, creating photorealis-tic representations on Maya. and this was my favourite brief of the module.

I-D Brief

The brief wanted us to create three images that are innovetive and that represents the ideology of the company. based around identity and sub cultures. there was room to involve our own artistic direction so we wanted to produce something different due to me and my creative partner not having much experience in photography.having much experience in photography.

The direction we went completely turned around towards the end due to discovering a certain requirement prohibiting compisi-tions, but we adapted and came through

Images

This was my least favourite brief, not due to the fact it was collabora-tion. but more so the way in which human error caused us to have to take a U-turn in our creative direction. but there are some good things that came from this brief. working as a team to achieve certain goals, and reaching those goals together. In terms of sticking to the brief, I think that the sudden turn around boasts our ability to adapt and respond to these barriers that we come across in the arts.

Propercorn

The brief was to create an innovative way to reach the time-poor and health concious consumer of Propercorn popcorn. this was a very vague brief leaving alot of room for experiment in the productbut also to create something that would be easily engaging with the demo-graphic in the right way due to the nature of them. they are busy and do not have a lot of time to stop and appreciate an advert or promotional campaign

Propercorn

Being the first brief I encountered I was very apprehensive as to how this would turn out. and to be completely honest the majority of the brief was learning how to cope with them and how to form your subbmissions for the competition. I also quite enjoyed developing my ideas for Propercorn as it gave me a completely different way to approach a project, most of mine are with my own artistic direction and overall direction. well where as this had a certain overall direction whilst just leaving a little artistic direction up to you! My thinkings for having a youtube advert was my favourite aspect up to you! My thinkings for having a youtube advert was my favourite aspect of this brief, the idea was that being time poor and health concious you would definitely skip as soon as you can, but if the video is five seconds long then you would feel more obliged to take the information in!

Piri Puzzles

The brief was set by the child company of Datomec, Piri Art and Design. who feature in all of the Datomec ex-hibitions, so they hold alot of the same be-liefs that the virtual world could potentially drive the world of art in a direction that could change the world of art exhibitions and galleries. so Piri wanted me to have a go wanted me to have a go at creating thier puzzle virtually to see what it would look like in that medium.

Piri Puzzles

As upsetting it was to not get my own designs into the virtual world, I was still thrilled to create these wonder-full puzzles and arranging them in a way that shows of thier elegence. there were a few technical difficulties that re-quired me to re size some of the texture maps. but this was down to recieving different sized files to use as a dif-ferent version of the same label. also the lighting took a while to get right, I finished on a setup that I wasnt too happy with but had to stick with towards the end. I was trying to get the look of proffessionaly photographed, but as we discovered in the collaboration brief photography isn’t my strong point. so there is something for me to work on before taking on any other brief similar to this one.

Christmas Brief

Controversially I de-cided to involve a self set brief, it displays certain skills and traits that will help to condition me into answering briefs in such a quick time. I such a quick time. I had two days to create a range of jewellery/-gift boxes due to the lack of money with being a student. I needed something for four family and friends that isn’t a consumable and something that is hand made and unique!

Christmas Brief

This was the most painstaking brief, but also the most rewarding. the making process was tough, going through countless bottles of super glue and popsi-cle sticks. but also finding different techniques to help assist materials to dry quicker without relying on leaving them over night, especially when time is short! the very short time frame of two days created an immense sense of pressure to complete the task. but I have a feeling that this is due to the personal aspect assigned to it, if I didnt have them done then I wouldn’t have anything to give out at christmas. this may seem like a triviwouldn’t have anything to give out at christmas. this may seem like a trivi-al idea but it boosted the feeling of urgency, this can only lead me to be-lieve that this feeling of urgency would only be present with the feeling of imminent personal gain, such as being able to present gifts at christmas or most commonly money! so this brief taught me a lot of values that have led me to question the motives of motivation, and lust to succeed
