Ellie CullmanAlbert Hadley Lifetime Achievement Award

Ellie Cullman founded Cullman & Kravis over

30 years ago. Known for layered, dynamic

interiors, luxurious finishes, and exquisite

details, the firm’s work embraces a “modern

traditional” aesthetic. This fresh approach is

contemporary, yet respects the 30-year track

record of the company’s passion for fine art

and antiques. In addition to its interior design

practice, Cullman & Kravis recently launched

its Elliehome Furniture Collection through The

New Traditionalist, and a fabric collection with

Holland & Sherry. Ellie has consistently been included on the coveted AD 100 list

of the world’s best interior designers and architects since 2000. She was named

one of Architectural Digest’s Deans of American Design in 2005, and received the

D&D’s Star of Design Award in 2009. She is the co-author with Tracey Pruzan of

Decorating Master Class: The Cullman Kravis Way (Harry Abrams, 2008), and The

Detailed Interior: Decorating Up Close with Cullman & Kravis (Monacelli, 2013).

The Albert Hadley Lifetime Achievement Award is given to individuals who have

made contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of design.

Ellie Cullman joins Mario Buatta (2011), Jack Lenor Larsen (2012), Geoffrey

Bradfield (2013), Mariette Himes Gomez (2014), John Rosselli (2015), and

Bunny Williams (2015) as Hadley Award laureates.

James P. Druckman is president and C.E.O. of the New York Design Center (NYDC), the oldest yet most progressive building in the United States continuously devoted to furnishings and design. Jim became President of the NYDC in 1995 and with his guidance, the building has become the preeminent resource for interior design in New York. The NYDC is the industry’s premier marketplace containing nearly 100 showrooms representing over 300 lines of fine, traditional, contemporary, residential, and contract furnishings. The

building also houses 60 1stdibs dealers selling antiques and vintage furniture. The New York Design Center was built in 1926 by industry visionaries including members of Jim’s family. Philanthropy has always been an important part of the New York Design Center’s history. Both Jim Druckman and the New York Design Center have long term involvements with major industry related charities. Jim is a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia Law School and practiced law in New York City. He serves as president of the Board of the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club and is a trustee of the Museum of the City of New York, and the New York School of Interior Design where he is also treasurer. In addition, Jim is a member of the Board of Directors of The Alpha Workshops.

The NYSID Centennial Medal, celebrating achievement and commitment to the

The New York School of Interior Design thanks Lalique for the generous contribution of Avallon Vases awarded to Ellie Cullman and Deborah Nevins.

The Avallon Vase is an original René Lalique design from 1927. It returned to production in 2010, celebrating the 150th anniversary of Lalique’s birth in 1860. The design’s vine creates a rhythm throughout the composition where birds indulge in an abundance of sweet grapes.

From the original work of founder René Lalique to the iconic brand of today, Lalique has endured for over a century as the ultimate symbol of French luxury. Today, Lalique has transformed into a full lifestyle brand, offering collections across five categories: interior design, decorative objects, jewelry, art, and fragrance.

NYSID Centennial Medal

The New York School of Interior Design is grateful to Michele Oka Doner who designed this new medal in recognition of the College’s Centennial. Celebrating the College’s first 100 years and its vitality today while looking forward to a brilliant future, this medallion in sterling silver presents an emerging growth form, a kind of tree of life, simultaneously representing the growth of knowledge and the organic nature of design.

Michele Oka Doner is an internationally renowned artist whose work encompasses sculpture, furniture, jewelry, public art, functional objects, video as well as costume and set design. Her work is fueled by lifelong study and appreciation of the natural world from which she derives her formal vocabulary. Michele Oka Doner is a member of the NYSID Advisory Board.

New York School of Interior Design is a private, nonprofit college focused exclusively on interior design. The college offers certificate, undergraduate, and graduate programs for students at all stages of their careers—whether they’re just becoming familiar with the discipline, considering a career change, or looking to deepen knowledge in a particular area. We have more than 600 students studying residential and commercial interior design, with specialties in sustainable design, lighting, and healthcare interiors. Because of our small class size and sharp focus, our students receive a great deal of personal attention from our dedicated faculty, and they go on to practice at the highest levels of the profession.

Founded in 1916, New York School of Interior Design has been leading the study of interior design for a century. We’ve trained the designers whose work defines interior design today, and, by rigorously preparing students for professional success, we’re shaping the future of the entire field. We are ranked one of the top five interior design schools in the U.S. by Design Intelligence.
