Greetings and Salutations,I am happy to announce that our
lodge has been approved by the Elks National Foundation for two grants! This is a wonderful opportunity for the Bismarck Mandan Elks Lodge 1199 to yet again give back to our local community.
The first grant “Suds and Stories” of $2000 will be used to assist families by providing free access to laundromat services while promoting child literacy. There will be two days in August before school begins in which King Koin laundromat will provide families with use of their facilities while volunteers engage and provide children with books to take home.
The second grant “Backpack
Program” of $2500 will be used to provide food to children struggling in school. There will be a day coordinated this fall that volunteers will be needed to stuff bags with kid friendly, nutritious meals and then subsequently deliver to schools.
If you or anyone you may know is interested in helping out during either event and/or would like to provide new/gently used books, please contact me directly: [email protected] or phone number 612-709-9109.
Thank you all! With your generous support, WE will make a difference.

Greetings Elks Members,Yesterday was the first day of
summer and we are all looking forward to our lovely North Dakota summers.
I would like to announce a change for our dining room and the new summer hours that will take effect on July 1st 2019. The dining room will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. It will be closed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The daily noon lunch will be discontinued starting on July 1st. Groups that have their noon meetings and lunch at the Elks, will still be offered and continue as normal.
The Speak Easy lounge will have their menu and selected popular items from the dining room will be made available on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. If you have not been to the Speak Easy with the music, you are missing a great experience. Wednesday nights are patio nights with music on the patio and the grill
cooking burgers and different options each week as well.
The TR bar will continue offering their menu, Monday through Saturday evenings with no changes being made.
I remember growing up that the Elks was the go to place when special events occurred in my family’s life. Birthdays, anniversaries, graduation and other moments special in our lives were celebrated at the Elks dining room. I am sure many of you have the same memories as well. With all of the other options available in Bismarck and Mandan today I would encourage you as a member to put the Elks at the top of your list when celebrating your special event or just a great evening among your fellow Elks members. One of the best things about dining at the Elks is the parking, not many places in town can offer this much parking and access to the Club.
This newsletter is a combination of July and August, so be sure to have the calendar out to remember all the
events that are going on at the Elks. If you want more up to date information about what is going on at the Elks, and you are on Facebook, like and follow the Elks page so you can be reminded of events that are posted on the Elks Facebook page. Another way is for you to sign up with your smart phone to receive texts from the Elks on specials or events. If you sign up, your first text will be for a free drink by just showing the text to server.
Enjoy your summer,

Secretary’s CornerHappy 4th of July to all. This
year, Steve Davis is our Grand Lodge representative at the national convention in St. Louis. Thank you, Steve, for your support.
June marked our 109th year of the Elks in Bismarck, something we can all be proud of.
As we enter into our Independence Day it’s nice to know we have been such a great part of our community on the local level and our nation as an organization. Remember, Elks Care Elks Share.
Your officers and trustees are
doing a great job of keeping the Lodge and Club running; however, they can’t do it without your support. This comes through being a member and keeping your membership current as well as stopping by and supporting your Club. We have many events and areas to enjoy at 1199 and it’s always great to see you at the Club.
I will be sending out a second notice in mid-July to those who have not paid. Please consider doing so if you have not paid, the cost of the additional mailings gets very
expensive for the Lodge. Remember, your dues are always due on the 1st of April.
Thank you – Arlan Scholl Lodge Secretary

Choral Connection July-August 2019Even though
y o u r E l k s C h o r u s h a s
the summer off we have several
concerts coming up. And we did sing the Star-Spangled Banner for a Larks home game on June 4th.
Our next concert you won’t want to miss is when we will be singing in the Mandan Bandshell on Tuesday, July 23rd starting at 7:00 pm. It is always a great, upbeat and patriotic
concert, particularly when we have a nice summer evening. The Mandan Bandshell is in the park on the south side of Main Street immediately west of the old depot.
Then our next concert will be at the Capital A’Fair on the capitol grounds on Saturday, August 3rd at the northwest corner of the Capital A’Fair. That’s always a fun day and a very good concert.
We normally sing later in the afternoon. Please turn up and support your Elks Chorus by
attending one or both of these concerts.
We are also doing some work on planning an Elks Chorus trip to France and the Netherlands in May 2020. More details will be provided as we firm up our plans.
Regular rehearsal will start in the fall. We hold our rehearsal every Tuesday at 7:00 pm for an hour in the Beaudoin Room at our Elks Lodge.
For your Elks Chorus, I am Bob Wefald, your Elks Chorus reporter.

Elks National Foundation Multiplies Your Donation to
Benefit North Dakota ProjectsThe Elks National Foundation has a multiplier effect
on donations received for the benefit of North Dakota Elks Projects and Communities. The $25,477 in contributions received from ND Elks during the 2017-2018 fiscal year is returning $59,310 to ND programs this year plus $24,000 was received by community grants to ND Lodges last year.
A $10 donation breaks down to approximately this amount to our state and community programs this year. $10.50 goes for the support of our State Project, Camp Grassick. $4.50 goes for the support of the Hoop Shoot Contest, $6,000 in Most Valuable Student Scholarships awarded by the NDEA, and the NDEA Drug awareness programs. $8.00 goes for the National Foundation’s $20,000 minimum in scholarships to ND seniors. Last year $9.50 was returned to ND Lodges in grants to help their communities. The National Veterans Service Commission in ND gets $0.60. This is a return of $33.10 to benefit North Dakota projects from a $10 donation. A $100 donation is worth more than $300 in charitable help to North Dakota.
Please consider donating $10 or more to the Elks National Foundation through the Bismarck-Mandan Elks Lodge for the benefit of North Dakota good works of the Elks.
