Hello fellow Elks Members,As I prepared this newsletter
article I realized that this will be the last one I will be writing. This past year has gone by so fast. It has been an honor to be your ER this past year, thank you for your support.
I want to share a conversation I recently had with a longstanding fellow Elks member. The subject of what our Elks Lodge does for our community came up. I started to tell him of all the money our lodge donates to Bismarck and Mandan charities. He said really? It was then I knew I needed to make this my message for my article this month.
I asked the office to print out all the different charities our Lodge has donated to since April 1, 2019. The report I received from them shows approximately 30 different organizations received money this past year. The money that was given ranges from $100.00, $250.00, then $500.00 and higher. In addition, the scholarship program was given $4,000.00 alone. I have totaled that this
past years giving to the end of January 2020 at $85,790.83. This has all been given back to our communities in hard cash.
This does not include the volunteer’s hours or gifts in kind to raise the money to give out. I would estimate that if we included a dollar figure to their efforts, we would be well over $100,000.00 in giving.
The office has a complete listing of all the organizations receiving our donations but we have been trying to help veterans, youth programs, after prom parties, programs geared towards children and our first responders as an example. This is not to say it is has been our only focus, but programs that also help the community as a whole.
This alone should make every member proud to be an Elk and a member Bismarck-Mandan Lodge 1199.
I want to take a moment to thank all of my Officers and Trustees with their dedication, time and talent this past year. Without your support, we would not have had
as good of year that we have had. With the new Elks year starting on April 1st, 2020 I know the new Officers and Trustees will continue their fine work. I also want to thank the office staff for their hard work and dedication as well. To the managers and employees of the Elks, again, thank you for your work and dedication making our visits enjoyable.
As we close this year and a New Year starting, please remember to renew your membership for the 2020-2021 Elk year. As you can see, your dollars are well used in our lodge, for our community and provide a wonderful place to gather and enjoy friends and fellow members.
Fraternally Yours,Brian PetersonExalted RulerBismarck-Mandan 1199

Choral Connection March 2020
After a well-d e s e r v e d January break,
w e s t a r t e d r e h e a r s i n g i n
February. We did work in two concerts on
February 18th at Crescent Manor and The Terrace, as we sang for them songs celebrating love for Valentine’s Day.
Our Elks Chorus director Rachel Johnson is working us back into good shape with the assistance of our accompanist Linda Fisher.
In our rehearsals we are looking forward toward our Sunday concerts in which we sing at church services in Bismarck on one Sunday and in Mandan on another. Both are whirlwind mornings as we drive
between five churches in each city. We usually sing several songs with appropriate religious themes.
Later in the spring we hope to participate in the 2020 ND Men’s Choral Festival hosted by the Jamestown Choralaires. It will be held in the Harold Newman Arena on the campus of the University of Jamestown. All the choruses perform several songs, but it is a real thrill when all singers numbering at least 175 voices sing
together! Singing with and hearing other Men’s Choruses is a great experience for us.
We rehearse on Tuesdays at 7:00 pm in the Beaudoin Room at our Elks Lodge. Stop by and join us if you enjoy singing.
Contact our president Al Jirges at 202-8442 or email him at [email protected].
