KidTek U GPAEA is pleased to announce a change in Summer Enrichment services. Effective June 2016, our former Summer Enrichment program will be transferred to Southeastern Community College’s Kidtek U. SCC will bring a broadened STEM component to the program while updating and supporting current instructors, students and area families. Our preliminary meetings have formalized these decisions:

SCC will no longer require Talented and Gifted requirements for attending the summer program. Current Enrichment instructors will be contacted and invited to teach. The program times have not been decided (length of learning sessions, number of days, etc.) Great Prairie will support communication and resources to ensure that student needs are being met. SCC hopes to sponsor two campus locations (Mt. Pleasant and West Burlington).

This program change is an exciting opportunity that will support SCC’s outreach to students and STEM programming, while allowing the AEA to focus and support early literacy. Registrations will be accepted via phone, in person, or online at www.kidteku.com.

Live Healthy Iowa Kids Track Championships The former Hershey Track and Field Games will now be held in the state of Iowa as the Live Healthy Iowa Kids Track Championship. The Live Healthy Iowa Kids Track Championships event was founded in 2015 to continue on the tradition of the Hershey® Track and Field Games in Iowa. Like its predecessor, the Live Healthy Iowa Kids Track Championships is a free, state wide event that requires no special equipment to participate. Partnering with parks and recreation departments and school

districts throughout the state, local meets are hosted all around Iowa, giving participants a chance to compete close to home. The local meets provides a great grassroots introduction to track and field for kids. Registration is now open! For information on the event and meets being held across the state, go to livehealthyiowakidstrack.org. Qualifiers from each local meet will have the opportunity to compete at the state track championships to be held in Marshalltown on June 11, 2016.
