El verbo ser

The verb ser means “to be”

-Each sentence has a subject and a verb

-In Spanish, you have to change the form of the verb so that it matches it’s subject.

-Changing the form of a verb is called conjugating.

Conjugation of the verb ser (“to be”)

yo soy I am nosotros(as) somos we aretú eres you are vosotros(as) sois you are

usted es you are ustedes son you are

él es he is ellos son they are

ella es she isellas son they are

El Museo del Prado es muy grande.

El Museo del Prado is very big.

El Greco y Diego Velasquez son pintores españoles.

El Greco y Diego Velasquez are Spanish painters.

Estudiante: “¿De dónde es Usted?”

Srta Siering: “Yo no soy de españa. Yo soy de New Jersey.”

Estudiante: “Where are you from?”

Srta Siering: “I am not from Spain. I am from New Jersey.”

Ustedes son estudiantes del Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush.

You all are students of the Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush.

Estudiante A: “¿Tú eres pintor?”“Are you a painter?”

Estudiante B: “No, no soy pintor. Yo soy actor”

“No, I am not a painter. I am an actor.”

Ustedes son talentosos.

You all are talented.

Vosotros sois talentosos.

You all are talented.

Nosotros somos artistas.

We are artists.
