Congratulations to our Ewok of the Week, Ms. Ayana Oglesby for printing out
HR rosters for Renaissance, without even being asked. Thank you, Ms. Ogles-by for getting ahead of the game and helping out!
Congratulations to the Ed Foundation Mini-grants, who were recognized at
this week’s Board of Education meeting. They are Kathi Clayton, Kelly Em-mer, Gavin MacNeill, Brittany McCreesh, and Kelli Wenzel. Keep doing awe-some things for our students!
Thank you to Ms. Menchaca and Mr. Spence for beginning to work on PARCC
preparation. The fun has begun!!

ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Character Education word of the month is KINDNESS. Please recognize
students who are exhibiting kindness. Praise referrals and Jedi Tickets are a good way to do this.
Jedis of the Month for October are due to Ms. Perone or Ms. Hoffecker by
Tuesday, October 31. Please select 2 students from each team. Special areas are encouraged to nominate students, one from each grade level you teach.
The Active Shooter Drill with the EHTPD will be on Tuesday, October 24 at
2:50pm. 7th/8th grade teachers report to the LGI at 2:15 for a briefing.
Please consider nominating a staff member for Ewok of the Week. Each
Ewok of the Week will go into a drawing for the Jedi Master of the Month, and the winner will receive a bigger prize.
Death Star Dodgeball will take place on November 7 from 6-8pm. If you are
interested in reffing or chaperoning, all help is welcomed and appreciated!
As part of Violence Awareness Month, “You Got Caught In the Act!” tickets can
be given out until the end of October. Please give to students you observe do-ing an act of kindness.
The HERO Walk is Sunday, October 29th. This is a great team building event to
support a local organization. Registration for the event can be completed at www.herowalk.org.

GET TO KNOW THE ALDER FAMILY MS. JULIE LOFTUS—Principal’s Secretary
Ms. Loftus was born and raised in Philadelphia, spending my summers at the Jersey
Shore. I attended St. Leonard’s Academy and Villanova University. I have three children,
John, Brian and Meghan and a niece and nephew, Kelly and Bill, who I raised in Voorhees,
NJ. I permanently returned to the Jersey Shore in 1996 where I currently reside in Mar-
gate.
I love sports, especially college and pro football. I love travel and cruising. I have been to
most of the USA and Canada, the Caribbean, and parts of Europe.
MS. AYANA OGLESBY — Data Secretary
I am a married mother to 4 amazing children. I have 3 daughters Kalia, Layla and Nina and 1 son Kalil. My husband Charles Oglesby Jr. is an alumni of EHT and graduated in 1997. I attended Holy Spirit High School and Pleasantville High School and graduated in 1996. I worked for Pleasantville High School for 10 years as an assistant principal’s secre-tary and then briefly at AtlantiCare Behavioral Health before starting here at Alder Ave-nue in December 2014. I live In Egg Harbor Twp. and my children go to school here in the district. When I’m not taking my girls to dance, or photo shoots or my son to work, and sports games my husband and I love hosting and attending dinner parties with our family and friends, going to concerts, movies , plays and cruises. My whole family are Dallas Cowboys Fans and we love to bowl and take family trips during the summer and over our school breaks.
MS. BONNIE GRIFFITHS — Assistant Principal Secretary
Ms. Griffiths moved to the shore from her hometown of Marlton, NJ to attend college, and is a graduate of Stockton State. She has three children: Joe (an EHT Police Officer), Bryan (a math teacher for Atlantic City Schools) and Tara (a freshman at Ithaca College in NY)...and an absolutely adorable orange tabby cat named Leo. She, and her three chil-dren, are black belts in the Korean martial arts, and operated a non-profit martial arts studio for about 15 years. Ms. Griffiths is also a dispatcher for the Ocean City Police De-partment.
For fun she enjoys everything outdoors and often spends vacation time hiking through state parks with her children. She also likes the beach, skiing, reading, traveling and cheering for Philadelphia's awesome new QB and unstoppable team. Go Eagles!

There will be a Halloween Dance on Friday, October 20 from 7-9pm.
Two students, Krisha Patel and Sadia Rahman, will be competing at the
state finals of the STEAM Tank competition at the Atlantic City Con-vention Center on October 25th at 9:30 am. This competition will take
place during the NJ School Board Association's Workshop.
Our Scholastic Book Fair is Coming Monday November 27th-Friday
December 1st. Stop by the Media Center and "Let the Force Awaken A Love of Books."
Lion King Jr will be holding a General Interest meeting for performers
on Monday Oct 23rd. Auditions will be the following week.

Hot off the Press!
In SPORTS ACTION...
The Alder Ave. Boys soccer team played their toughest opponent of the season
on Tuesday afternoon. In a hard-fought competition, the boys earned a 2-2 draw versus the Richard M. Teitlemen MS from Lower Cape May. Dean Ger-mann scored both goals for Alder, with assists from Nate Beirsbach and Aiden Davis. The tie keeps the boys undefeated on the season with a record of 4-0-
1. Way to represent Alder! Keep it up, guys!
The Girls’ Field Hockey Team an exciting game against Lower Cape May yes-
terday with a score of 5 to 2. Scoring for the Eagles was Emily Smith with 3 goals and Emily Gargan and Gianna Badyna each scored 1 goal. Also playing tough defense was Shelby Parker, Sierra Ortiz and Goal keeper Stefanie Jones. Their record is now 2-3-1.
The Girls’ Soccer Team won their first game on Tuesday, beating Lower Cape
May on tuesday by a score of 4-0. Scoring goals for the girls were Natalie Naasan and Camila Perez. Ahtziri Garcia recorded the shut out.

SPOTLIGHT ON ACTIVITIES
The Catawba/Garden Club has been planting kale and Swiss chard in our
raised garden beds. The seeds have germinated and we have baby plants! The new compost bin is almost complete. We built a new bin to allow more air flow to help speed up the breakdown of compost. The
greenhouse construction just began the other day with hopes to com-plete the greenhouse by spring, weather permitting.
In Yearbook News...Each homeroom teacher was asked to submit the
names of 2 students that would be interested in being on the Yearbook Staff. Names are due Friday, and a notice will go out Monday with infor-mation about the first afterschool meeting.
Chorus is now preparing for two big events; the high school homecoming
game and the Veterans Day event during school.
Homework Club for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade every Tuesday and Thursday
in the library until 4:15. You must have a permission slip to stay. Bring enough work for 2 hours, and bring a snack.
Renaissance will be having DeaThStar Dodgeball on Tuesday, Nov. 7 from 6-8PM in the High School Gym. Registration packets can be picked up in the Main office, VP office, or rooms C216, D131, and C136.
$10 to play, which includes pizza and a drink. All packets, along with the registration fee, are due no later than Nov. 1 to one of those rooms. The first 32 teams to have their packets and money in will play.
CLONE WARS LUNCH— - 6th grade students must seek out a staff mem-
ber Monday mornings for their admission ticket into Ms. Hegh and Ms. Battersby's classrooms. There Mr. Spence has organized a viewing of Clone Wars and some of Mrs. Ott's famous popcorn. (Pictures from the first week of Clone Wars are below.
