Egg Drop ProjectBy Jeremy Cohen
The Problem
The objective was to design a container for an egg that:● Would be able to protect the egg from a drop of two stories
● Is only made of cardboard
Information Collection
Brainstorming Ideas
My first idea could not be fully realized because the spherical center could not be assembled using cardboard
My second idea did not work because the sharp edges were likely to crack the egg upon impact
Developing Solutions
Using the collected information I came up with the model below. As you can see, the compartment that the egg is kept in is arched. It is round, but not spherical which allowed the construction of the container to be more efficient. The panels you see beside the arch, act as barriers, and prevent the egg from falling out of the container.

Arch and panels interlock with base
Feedback
After testing my design, I discovered that the panels could not stay interlocked with the base with the impact of the landing and would fall apart immediately after contact is made with the ground. In addition, the design was not very visually appealing.
Yikes!
Yuck!
Improvements
When improving my container, I simplified the design so that less complications would arise. I replaced the arch with more of a tunnel shape to make room for smaller, sturdier panels which are more reliable than those in my previous design. To improve the visual aspect, I added a self explanatory yet beautiful image
