Significant Safety Achievements- 4/13
• Clean-up of the Building 70 and 60/63 gas cylinder areas has been completed. Approximately 100 cylinders were returned or disposed.
• Approximately 500 “old chemicals” were removed from lab areas in Buildings 62 and 70. This is our third round. More to come!
• Quarterly SAA inspections were completed on 4/29/13.• Three “Safety Alerts were issued:
– Timely accident reporting– Empty gas cylinder return procedures– Lab area housekeeping
• An EETD-lunch seminar was held regarding lab traffic safety.• An EETD Safety Committee meeting was held on 4/4/13.
Short Term Safety Outlook- 5/13
• Start work on the “On the Job Training” self-assessment project.
• Develop EETD “New Hire Orientation” training materials.• Follow-up on CATS items from the housekeeping self-
assessment. • Work with EHSS to develop a process for identifying and
removing orphan chemicals from labs.• Update a number of Activity Hazard Documents that are due
for their annual renewal.• Generate a “Lessons Learned” regarding the recent janitorial
incident in 70-269.• Assist with set-up of lab areas 51-102, 51-103, 62-102, and
62-316.• Continue efforts on removal of old chemicals and cylinders.
