Transcript of Edward Withrow - 4 Organizations that Help Veterans
AMVETS National
Service Foundation
The AMVETS National Service Foundation was founded in
1948.
Its original goal was to help WWII veterans readjust to
civilian life.
Today the organization operates numerous programs.
The programs help veterans file for VA benefits,
operate thrift stores, and award scholarships to veterans
and their families.
Fisher House
Foundation
If a veteran needs to travel to receive medical treatment,
the Fisher House Foundation provides temporary
housing to the veteran's family so that they can be near
their loved one.
Over 275,000 families have been helped since the
foundation began in 1990.
In addition to donating homes, the organization also
provides scholarships to military children.
Hire
Heroes USA
Hire Heroes USA focuses on helping veterans find jobs.
The organization provides their service for free.
Specialists help veterans take what they have learned in
the military and convey this experience to an interview
setting.
The organization also offers workshops on writing resumes
and cover letters.
Wounded Warriors
Family Support
Wounded Warriors Family Support helps the families of
veterans that have been killed or wounded while serving
their country.
The organization's work includes funding family retreats
to different national parks.
Additionally, the organization has a welding training
program and sponsors a marathon each year.
While the organization has only been around since 2003, it
has accomplished a great deal and helped many families.
