CALLING ALL SASSY BAKERS!

With YOUR support we are back at it again this year - representing our school community at the Manning Park, Rotary Spring Fair on October 28th with a SASsy cake stall!

Last year was a smashing success which was made

possible because of YOU, our wonderful community,

getting behind this with home baked deliciousness.

We hope to replicate last year’s success with money raised going towards any final costs of the bush kitchen and all remaining funds to go to the STEAM room.

We ask every SAS family to bake one homemade item each, but don’t feel limited to just one, as a contribution towards the stall.

‘One item’ may look like the following:

1 standard cake – please DO NOT SLICE as most cakes will be sold whole

12 cupcakes or muffins

24 large biscuits/cookies

12 servings of slices or bars – please do not slice where possible

other – 1 batch eg; savoury items, honey joys, bliss balls, pikelets… think outside the (cake) box!

To ensure we don’t end up with 834 cupcakes and only 5 slices we have set up a google form which you will receive by email shortly. Once you select the item you have chosen to bake, you will then receive further instructions for storage and packaging by email.

Collection / Delivery details Please give your baked goods to Peta Robinson on:

Friday 26th October outside Narooma Cookies and slices, not cakes please as they will end up quite stale by Sunday

Saturday 27th October 10:00pm – 2:00pm at Peta R’s house 3B Cedar Court, Spearwood

All cakes, cupcakes/muffins. Slices and biscuits may be delivered too.

We can’t thank you all enough for making last year the success it was and we look forward to your participation this year! warmest regards

Coordinators - Caz, Emma, Kate, Nina, Peta & Vandana

NAROOMANs with Lorraine and Lola trained Callum up so well that he has, with Lorraine’s support and reference, been successful in his application to take up a teaching position in the Northern Territory for term 4. Well done everyone! Congratulations Callum.

Naroomans are grateful to and thank Kevin and Marisa who have repaired and remodelled the digger superbly!

And they applaud the Cake Stall coordinators – along with whole of community – who will ensure finances to meet the Bush Kitchen requirements. And the team invested in the execution of their detailed planning for this.

AWESOME kids

As a culmination of their learning Business and Enterprise with Karen L our awesome Bunganans ran a successful stall, selling awesome original creations, at the Awesome Festival during the school holidays.

Thanks Karen and thanks parents of Bunganans for getting your kids there and supporting their enterprise.

PIARA project

Please cross your fingers and imagine the success of applications Karen L has worked on determinedly and with detail to describe our planning for Piara’s rejuvenation. Those of you who provided supporting information – re your reflection on this treasured piece of bushland – thankyou!

ART projects and more….

SASsy kids will participate in the Seeds of Change project as part of the Perth Festival 2019. They have been asked to become guardians of the Balga / Grass Tree; scientific name Xanthorrhoea preissii. In Art classes, with Kerry, the children will create seedpods to feature alongside thousands of other seeds of change as part of the spectacaular opening event – Boorna Waanginy: The Trees Speak.

Each seedpod will contribute to a glowing installation illustrating the interconnectivity and biodiversity of species from the South West and a commitment to look after and protect the flora and fauna. We will ‘play our part in preserving our fragile and complex environment that we all share…and learn to understand our species, its importance in the ecosystem, and what we can do to ensure its survival’.

We have also chosen to be involved in Boodja Djena: Ground Beneath our Feet. For this we were asked to identify a real-world problem in our community and create a solution through action – looking after the ground beneath our feet. We have nominated our rejuvenation of Piara.

THE BIG BOOK SWAP

Well done us with $242 to contribute to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation through our kid and adult book swaps. Thanks everyone!

Our LOVELY LIBRARY

Thankyou to Deb & family, Nina & family and to Jo & family for the recent donations of beautiful books to our school library.

SNAKES on the MOVE

It is getting warmer and snakes will be on the move. One was spotted this morning moving from the garden area to under the main school building. The children were advised to take care. Please ensure that your child has suitable footwear each day. We will remind them to keep them on when outside.

NATIONAL SCHOOLS OPINION SURVEYs

It is a requirement of the department of education that these are conducted every two years. You will be asked to contribute to school improvement by participating in the NSOS during this term.

Staff will also complete a survey and a sample of older students contribute to one designed for their input.

Staff recently completed one re Restorative Practices at school and your input on similar will be welcomed.

strategic planning and community partnerships.

Board members act in an advisory capacity to the

School Principal in a variety of matters monitoring the

performance and accountability expectations of the

school. They are not involved in school operational

matters (day to day stuff) but in the governance and

strategic management of the school. Board members

have a role in developing the School Business Plan and

contributing to and participating in the School Review

process. The Board endorses the Annual Report. Board

members are required to review and approve policy

documents and be prepared to discuss these at

meetings. The board has a role in monitoring financial

management

It is a requirement that new members to the board

complete Board Training online learning modules prior

to commencement in the role and become familiar with

the Code of Conduct and Terms of Reference for the

School Board.

Written applications, addressed to the Principal, Denise

Stone, are to be received by the end of November.

As part of the selection process applicants will be

required to meet with the Principal and School Board
