    Jake: Education. Is todays education system benefiting pupils as much as it possibly could? Tonight

    we question the quality of education under the current government. (Intro)

    Jake: In England, there were 24,605 schools in January 2010, a decrease on January 2009 when there

    were 24,737. Education seems to always pop up in the news. This year it has been criticised that

    GCSE exams have been marked to generously. (Over the top off filming of over shoulder)

    Jake: Academies will soon dominate Englands education landscape with more than half of schools

    having sought to convert. The 200 weakest primary schools will be turned into academies and placed

    under new management, next year. (Over the top of Rush Hour clip)

    The National Union of Teachers is a trade union for school teachers in England that, like Alison,

    believes academies have a damaging impact on children and teachers. In Nuts opinion they see

    academies as a threat to teachers and their working conditions. As well as damaging neighbouring

    schools, academies have shown no evidence that they provide a better education than any other

    school.

    Jake: Exams will be returning to a tougher O-level style qualification in place of GCSEs. Plans includegetting rid of modular assessment, reintroducing the traditional three-hour exam at the end of two

    years of study and limiting the number of top grades that are awarded. (Over the top of filming of an

    establishing shot) New books will have to be supplied to schools replacing hand-me-down books that

    have been used for many generations in some schools. (Underlined section will be over the filming

    of books)

    Jake: Tuition fees of up to 9,000 are putting some students off from going to university as students

    taking places have fallen by nearly 57,000 or 12% compared to last year. (Over the top of an

    establishing shot)
