Disinfectants: The Essentials of Evaluation and Selection
As an environmental services leader and key decision- maker, you are often challenged with evaluating new disinfectants for your facility or healthcare system. Perhaps you’ve reviewed the literature on the successful trial of a new disinfectant and question whether it would work effectively in your facility. In this new online course learners will objectively review studies and compare data with evidence-based infection prevention recommendations.
Perhaps you have been asked to justify your budget and choice of disinfectants as part of a cost-savings initiative. However in addition to product cost, there are other factors you must consider when evaluating disinfectants, such as label and master label claims related to dwell times, as well as effect on fixtures, furnishings, and equipment.
On the other hand, what are some common pain points regarding compliance with local, state, and federal regulations versus evidence-based best practices? It’s critical that you be informed of specific product features and product implementation details to maintain compliance with the various regulations.
AHE’s online suite of programs offer an opportunity to engage with course facilitators as well as other learners and practitioners. Together, participants delve into common work issues as well as more complex challenges to gain a more global understanding of how essential environmental services is to healthcare — and the role we play in saving lives.

Employee Engagement: Going the Extra MileThe healthcare environment is rapidly changing, and healthcare facilities must adapt. To thrive in this ever-shifting work world, environmental services leaders must make employee engagement a priority.
Employee engagement equals the extent to which employees are emotionally connected and committed to their organization and their role, and their willingness to go the extra mile for their organization, department, or manager. Engaged employees are essential to an organization’s long-term success. However, on average, only one in three employees are engaged.
How do you cultivate an engaged workforce? This online course examines the major factors, trends, and drivers of employee engagement. It explores why engagement is vital to the department’s success, and how managers can boost engagement to position the environmental services team to succeed. The course is specifically designed to stimulate your thinking about how altering a few management practices can change the culture of your department.

The Clean Healthcare Environment: Is It Really? How Do We Know?Thursday, June 16, 2016 Often we think clean is synonymous with pathogen-free, but we know that is not the case. Even a well cleaned environment can still harbor organisms representing risk to the patient and transmission opportunities by the healthcare worker. During this webinar, we will explore the notion of a clean healthcare environment and current realities regarding disinfection. The focus will be on recognition of the healthcare environment as a living organism and the role chemical disinfectants are playing in addressing the challenges.
