Sault Sainte Marie Sault Sainte Marie is famous for the

Soo Locks they are one of the largest waterway traffic systems in

the United States Lake Huron, Michigan, and Superior

all empty into Salute Sainte Marie The Soo offers something for

everyone, from shopping to endless outdoor activities

Mackinaw Island Mackinaw Island is the one place in

Michigan that is not operated by auto mobile. Tourists either walk, use horse and buggy or bike

Mackinaw Island is home to many sailboat races throughout the summer

It is also famous for the Grand Hotel The Mackinaw Bridge connects

Traverse City Michigan Traverse City is home to the Cherry

Festival. The Cherry Festival is held every summer, Traverse City produces larges amounts of the United States Cherries

Traverse City has two peninsulas off of it Old Mission and the Leelanau Peninsula

Traverse City has 180 miles of beaches Each season can offer something

different in Traverse City from shopping, skiing, and golfing

Grand Rapids Michigan Grand Rapids is a larger city on the

West side of Michigan, it’s a big city with a small town atmosphere

Every fall Grand Rapids is the home to Art Prize, more than 250,000 artists and spectators visit Art

Prize Grand Rapids is only a few minutes

away from Lake Michigan

Detroit Michigan, is the largest city located in Michigan

Detroit was once the automotive capital of the world

There are plenty of attractions in Detroit from shopping, visiting Greek Town, or even catching a Wings game

Lexington Michigan Lexington is a harbor village on the

shores of Lake Huron Lexington is only an hour away from

Detroit and is located in the thumb of Michigan

It has a small town atmosphere with plenty to do

Lesson Plans

Go over this power point as an introduction to Michigan History. Let students get the feel of the many different places that form this great state.Have students make a list of their favorite places to visit in Michigan. Give students a map of Michigan… let them brainstorm and find a city they may be interested in.

Finally have students pick a city. Once they have found a city they are

interested in, have them do research on that particular city .

Have students make a poster or power point of the city they choose .

Once finished the students will present their city to the class.
