Principal’s Report As I write my final Parktone newsletter item, I am surrounded by boxes packed with office paraphernalia. Amongst the usual department guidelines and support materials are books from favourite authors, inspirational leaders and influential educators. Some less usual items protrude; a Darth Vader figure, lump of volcanic rock, magic tricks, an ironman medal, and a framed puzzle of an African Elephant. Each item and every book flourishes a memory of a significant moment in time or an impactful lesson. Collectively, in many ways, the items are a compilation of who I have been as an educator. Much like the 4th year teacher who critically reflects upon what they were like as a graduate, I think about my first year as an assistant principal at Parktone and hope any positive impact I was able to achieve outweighs what I lacked in experience. Gratefully, I am reminded by one of my favourite authors and by the story of Darth and his turn-around moment in which he saves his son: “You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.” ― C.S. Lewis. Parktone is a wonderful community, rich with supportive parents, teachable children and a dedicated staff. I think it would be difficult for anyone to engage with Parktone and walk away without being positively shaped. Other than a few newspaper articles and the Leader in Me book that I will be adding to the shelves of the Principal office at Rowellyn Park Primary, I feel blessed to have a daily living reminder of my time at Parktone, for this is the place where I met Sophie; my wife and the greatest souvenir I could ever ask for. I wish everyone the very best. Warm regards, Caleb Peterson Assistant Principal
