1. 7 Step Lesson Plan Template Name: Hannah Little Date: Unit 4 Part 2 Grade Level Teaching: Ages 5-7 (Depending on the severity of a student’s condition and how much experience they already have).  Subject: Speech Therapy (Grammar)  Instructional Standard: Students can properly use singular and plural forms in word/sentence form. Instructional Goal: Students will be able to define singular and plural, look at visuals to determine singular and plural, and be able to speak and communicate using singular and plural forms correctly. Essential Content: Definition of singular and plural. How to apply singular and plural. Looking at the differences in singular and plural. Knowing the difference in singular and plural in speech as well as written work. Time Estimate: About 60 minutes. Instructional Phase Time: 5 minutes Introduction to Lesson: Remind the student of the previous grammar lesson on what consists of a sentence-a subject and a verb. This will help him when having to form sentences with singular and plural words because he will have the basics on how to form a sentence. Begin by showing the student pictures of a single object and then the same object but a plural example (for instance, a picture of an elephant, and then a picture of a herd of elephants). Ask the student what the difference is in between the pictures so that the teacher can gauge how much he already knows about singular and plural before beginning to teach. Time: 10 minutes Direct Instruction: -Teacher explains in simple terms the words singular and plural. -Demonstrate meanings of each by using examples around the classroom (one pencil, two pencils, one chair, two chairs). -Show the student the difference between singular and plural by teaching him to look for the ‘s’ at the end. -Give example sentences using singular and plural so that the students can hear the difference in speech. -Make sure the student is motivated to want to learn the correct forms of singular and plural. Educational games are always a good way to do this. Give frequent, early, and positive feedback on the student’s progress so that he wants to continue doing well and learn more! Time: 20 minutes Guided Practice: -Use flashcards of singular and plural words and get the student to say whether it is singular or plural. -Use the pictures demonstrating a singular word and ask the child how to make that word plural. A Smart Board can be used to display pictures and images as well as a computer.
